congratulations on another
extraordinary year! Vito John Germinario Class of 1970
Saint Peter’s Prep New Jersey’s Jesuit High School Since 1872
Office of the President
April 23, 2016 Dear Friends, Welcome to the ninth annual 144 Grand Gala, presented by Academy and BCB Bank, in support of the Saint Peter’s Prep Financial Assistance Program. I have been looking forward to the Gala and I know, from having attended most of the gift gathering parties and last year’s Gala, that there will be something for everyone in both the silent and live auctions. This evening is truly a celebration of the Prep family. Whether in the gift gathering parties or the envelop stuffing and gift wrapping sessions, the warmth and enthusiasm of the Prep family is outstanding. Beyond the festivities of this evening, there is the noble purpose which brings us together – our support of the financial assistance program at Prep. Saint Peter’s is blessed to be located in the most diverse county in the United States and our student body is a reflection of that diversity. Besides welcoming boys from a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, we strive to give access to the Prep experience to every qualified and interested boy regardless of his family’s ability to afford the tuition. At a time when there is great buzz in the media about income inequality in our country, we stand firm in our commitment to helping students and their families overcome the financial obstacles to a lifeshaping Jesuit education. The Gala is the largest single source of funds to close the gap between what our endowments provide and the actual cost of providing financial aid. Thanks so much for giving life to this vital aspect of our mission. Special thanks are in order for the many people who have made this evening possible: The volunteers who have wrapped, packaged, stuffed and encouraged one another behind the scenes; the families who have welcomed us into their homes for the various gift-gathering parties; and especially our co‑chairs, Monica and Paul Cuccinelli, P’17, Michelle and Jeff Kellner, ’85, P’13,’15,’19, Liz and Bill Ruvo, P’15,’17, Jennifer and Mike McGuire, P’17 and Lisa and Matt Siracuse, P’13,’16,’17. Finally, I would like to thank each of you for your presence here this evening and your generous and enthusiastic support of the 144 Grand Gala. You are truly making a difference in the lives of hundreds of young men at Prep today. Sincerely,
Kenneth J. Boller, S.J. President

We are so proud to support Saint Peter’s Prep Financial Assistance Program – giving many students the advantages of a Jesuit education.
April 23, 2016 Dear Friends, Welcome to the ninth annual 144 Grand Gala, presented by Academy and BCB Community Bank! We are so pleased to share this evening with you. Prep holds a very special place in our hearts. For our sons it’s not only a school – it’s a home away from home, a brotherhood, a place that encourages and celebrates the diversity and talents of its students, an environment that encourages reflection and service, an indelible experience that prepares them for life and stays with them forever. We’re sure our many alumni in attendance tonight would agree! For parents and families it’s a community, a place we can count on to challenge our sons not only academically but in conscience and spirit, a part of our lives that will live on long after our sons graduate from Grand & Warren. It’s nothing less than an honor to serve as co-chairs of this event, which helps extend the unique Prep experience to those who might otherwise find it financially out of reach. We offer special thanks to Frances Salvo and the members of Prep’s Advancement staff for their leadership and tireless commitment to this Gala’s success. And we thank you for being with us here tonight! As you browse these pages, you will see the generosity and commitment of the Prep community – alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, faculty, staff and businesses – which help so many achieve the dream of a quality Jesuit education. Your generosity is what makes our Gala possible. Whether you helped stuff envelopes, made a donation to the auction, hosted a gift gathering at your home, made a reservation to attend, or plan to bid on the trip to Greece, we offer our deepest appreciation. We are grateful for your gifts of time, talent, and treasure. We as co-chairs find some of the most rewarding moments of the Prep experience in giving back to this very special place, which, over the course of four amazing, lightspeed years turns our boys into “Men for Others”. We invite you to participate in all of tonight’s festivities as we celebrate Prep’s biggest and brightest evening. Enjoy every moment of it and cherish the memories! Sincerely,
Monica and Paul Cuccinelli, P’17

2016 Gala Co-Chairs
Where are they now? Michael Fernandes and David Tolentino 2014 and 2015 Gala student speakers
Michael Fernandes, ’14 Upon graduating from Prep, I did not know if I would ever encounter such a welcoming community full of opportunities and resources again, but I believe I have found one at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am currently in my second year, and enjoying every second of my time here. I’ve met many great people, and established many great connections both on and off campus. As a freshman, I was selected to join the College Park Scholars – a nationally acclaimed and selective living and learning program – and I chose the Public Leadership track because of my experiences with the Igntatian Scholars. I have been able to expand on the leadership skills I learned at Prep through community service, policymaking, and mentoring. In terms of my professional connections, I have been able to establish a great network with many employers in my field. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to secure an internship with the United States Marshals Service last summer in Alexandria, Virginia, and I will be interning with the Federal Air Marshal Service in Washington, D.C this summer. I have also been accepted to the Homeland Security Policy of the Federal Semester Program here at UMD for this upcoming fall semester. Prep taught me many great lessons, but the greatest lesson of all was to work hard and fight for my dreams. Each day that passes, I use that lesson to get closer to my dream of working in federal law enforcement!
David Tolentino, ’15
I am currently a student at the Naval Academy Preparatory School stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. I graduate from here on May 13, 2016 and will be getting prepared for I-Day at the Naval Academy on June 28th, 2016 for Plebe summer. This lifestyle has certainly been different than what I am accustomed to, but my work ethic and perseverance have gotten me through a lot of adversity here. At times I have found myself reminiscing of Prep or speaking about it to my shipmates. In times like this, I find myself even more grateful and thankful for the experiences I had at Prep, since a lot of my shipmates never had an opportunity like I did. I certainly miss Prep more often than not. Yet, it also reminds me how far I have come and how far I need to go. My parents couldn't be any more proud, and the same goes for former coaches, teammates, mentors etc. I plan on continuing to working to my fullest potential as well as growing as a young man, to try and repay my debts to anyone who has had helped me in my life. My last words to anyone who is reading this would be: "DOWIT...Do Whatever It Takes!"
How do you fund a scholar?
Just like that! It’s easy: raise your paddle, make your pledge, fund a scholar...the power to shape a life is in your hands!

6 friends, 5 Courses, The One & only Light Horse Named for “Light Horse Harry” Lee, hero of the Battle of Paulus Hook, and set in an 1850s building painstakingly restored by its family of owners, the Light Horse Tavern combines an appreciation for tradition with contemporary flair. No wonder it’s been a favorite neighborhood spot since its 2002 debut. Co-owners (and Prep parents) Joan and Bill Gray will welcome your party of 6 to enjoy an enticing fivecourse tasting menu, the perfect opportunity to discover the New American creations of Jersey City native chef Carlos Ortega. Each course comes paired with a selection from the extensive wine cellar, and included at no charge is the warm, friendly atmosphere that continues to turn visitors into regulars! Available Tuesday-Saturday evenings, please reserve 2 weeks in advance. Expires December 31, 2016

The Good Ship [Your Name Here] Prep Crew might be our youngest varsity program, but they certainly do make a splash wherever they go, earning victories at the national and state levels on a regular basis. Yes, rowing is alive and well at Grand & Warren, but the team needs your help: their newest Vespoli V1 4+ shell is resplendent in maroon, but it lacks a name! It’s built for speed, with an innovative design by renowned naval architect Manolo Ruiz De Elivra, and with Prep’s fastest rowers at the oars, the boat has already placed third in the 2015 State Championship, earning a berth in last spring’s nationals. Bid and win tonight, and this mid-weight challenger will carry a name of your choice to victory for years to come! Name subject to coaching staff approval

A well Prep-ared dinner! There’s an old saw in the halls of power: if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Well, kitchen or not, Prep’s president and principal manage to keep 950 teenage boys and another 125 faculty and staff organized, so we’re sure they can take the heat of your backyard grill! This dynamic duo (plus young sous chef Ellie DeAngelo, we’re told) will prepare a barbecue for up to 12 couples, then join you at the table and regale you with tales from Grand & Warren. You provide the venue, grill, guests, beverages and snacks, they’ll provide dinner and dessert! Mutually agreed upon date during summer of 2016.
