IT’S MORE THAN PREP’S BIGGEST NIGHT. IT’S A PROMISE KEPT.

APRIL 13, 2019 THE WESTIN JERSEY CITY NEWPORT

Saint Peter’s Prep New Jersey’s Jesuit High School Since 1872

Office of the President

April 13, 2019 Dear Friends, Welcome to the twelfth annual Grand Gala! This evening is truly a celebration of the Prep family. As our theme proclaims: It’s More Than Prep’s Biggest Night. It’s a Promise Kept. Whether in the gift-gathering parties or the envelope stuffing and gift wrapping sessions, the warmth and enthusiasm of the Prep family is outstanding. I have been looking forward to sharing this evening with you, and I know there will be something for everyone in both the silent and live auctions. More importantly, I know there is something for everyone in the noble purpose that brings us together – our support of the financial assistance program at Prep. More than a third of our students receive need-based financial aid. Your help is what enables these young men and their families to afford Prep, and our school community is stronger for their presence. This evening helps us to keep the promise we made to helping students overcome the financial obstacles to receiving a life-shaping Jesuit education. The Gala provides the largest single source of funds needed to close the gap between what our endowments provide and the actual cost of providing financial aid. Thanks so much for giving life to this vital aspect of our mission. With your help this evening, the promise made can be fulfilled – a Promise Kept. This year we celebrate the twelfth Grand Gala. We can look back with pride to the almost $4 million raised since 2008, even as we set our sights on a record result this year. Special thanks are in order for the many people who have made this evening possible: The volunteers who have wrapped, packaged, stuffed and encouraged one another behind the scenes; the families who have welcomed us into their homes for the various gift-gathering parties; and especially our co-chairs, Elizabeth and Robert Brancatella ’85, P’16,’18,’21; Susan and Danijel Farkas, P’22 and Kerry and Brian Mooney, P’21. Finally, I would like to thank each of you for your presence here this evening and your generous and enthusiastic support of the Grand Gala. You are truly making a difference in the lives of hundreds of young men at Prep today. Sincerely,

Kenneth J. Boller, S.J. President

April 13, 2019 Dear Friends, Welcome to the twelfth annual Grand Gala! We are so pleased to share this evening with you, and we are delighted that you have joined us in celebrating Saint Peter’s Prep. Perhaps you have lived the Prep experience from a parent’s perspective, watching your sons grow from boys into men as part of a brotherhood that celebrates the diverse talents of its members, inspires intellectual and spiritual growth, and prepares them to meet life’s many challenges. Or perhaps you are an alumnus, whose formative moments took place in the halls of Grand & Warren, where you gained the competence that would open doors for you later in life, along with the conscience and compassion that would give meaning to those opportunities. Whatever your personal connection to Prep, you know the outstanding promise a Prep education holds for a young man and his family. And by being a part of the Gala, each of you helps to ensure it’s a promise kept. The generosity and commitment of the Prep community – alumni, parents, grandparents, friends, faculty, staff, and businesses – is on display here tonight, enabling Prep’s financial assistance program to grow, and enabling so many to achieve the dream of a quality Jesuit education. Our sincere thanks to the volunteers, gift gathering hosts, donors, and sponsors who have made this evening possible through their support. Thank you to Dalma Santana and Prep’s advancement team who work tirelessly to make this Prep’s biggest night of the year. And thank you for your decision to join us this evening and rededicate yourself to Prep’s mission, by your presence and participation. For the many gifts of time, talent, and treasure that have made the twelfth annual Grand Gala a reality tonight, and that will make life at Grand & Warren a reality for students in need tomorrow, we offer our deepest appreciation. Prep calls upon all of us to be “Men and Women for Others.” Please know that by being here tonight, you have answered that call. Sincerely,

Elizabeth and Robert Brancatella ’85, P’16,’18,’21

AUCTION RULES & PROCEDURES Tonight’s auction will be conducted using the OneCause electronic bidding system. Our partners from OneCause are here to ensure our auction is fair, convenient and fun! Their friendly staff will assist you with registration/check-in, item bidding, and check-out.

EXPRESS CHECKOUT If you have not already done so, you may register your credit card before you begin bidding. Simply inform a OneCause staff member at registration upon check-in. Once you’re registered, we will keep track of all your purchases and will tally them up at the end of the evening. At that point, your winnings will be charged to your card. At evening’s end, proceed to the Checkout table outside the LIberty Ballroom to meet with a OneCause staff member, receive confirmation of all the items you won, complete check-out and redeem your prizes.

CHECKOUT AND ITEM PICKUP If you choose not to pre-register your credit card, you must make full payment promptly after the Fund-a-Scholar segment. You may pay for your items at the Check-out table outside the Liberty Ballroom. Cash, check, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa are accepted. At this time you can also pick up your prize(s). Checkout will be open from 9:45 –11:30 p.m.; pick-up opens at 10 p.m. at the Liberty Ballroom. Auction items too large to be transported Saturday night can be picked up at the Advancement Office of Saint Peter’s Prep, 144 Grand Street, Jersey City, New Jersey. The office is located on the third floor of Shalloe Hall, and is open Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If possible, please call in advance (201‑547-6420). All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds, unless otherwise specified. Auction items cannot be exchanged for cash. Successful bidders who receive an award certificate should make themselves known to the donor(s) within two weeks.

SILENT AUCTION RULES All Silent Auction tables open for bidding at 6:30 p.m., and will close at 8:30 p.m. All bidding will be done electronically. You may browse the items in the auction room, or Bidding Assistants are available to show them to you. Bidding Assistants will be available to assist you with placing your bid, or you may do so yourself using a smartphone or tablet. Browse through available items or tap the BROWSE button to find

a specific item or search by category. To place a bid, Tap BID. After submitting a bid,you will be prompted to set a Max Bid. When you’ve been out bid, OneCause will automatically bid on your behalf up to the Max Bid amount you set using the bid increments provided. Provide your mobile phone number to receive outbid notices. In the event that more than one bidder places the highest bid, the earliest bidder will prevail. A Buy Now option is also available. In the event of bidding error, please notify any auction staff member. Current winning bids will be shown on a screen throughout the evening. You can check these screens for an updated bid, or you will be notified via text message. The winner is the highest bidder as registered by the auction system at the close of the auction. The winning bid must be certified by the auction manager. Please be mindful of item restrictions, which are noted in the description. By making a bid, you agree to accept any limitations or restrictions required by the item donor.

LIVE AUCTION RULES The live auction will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. and will proceed in two segments, with a 30-minute break between segments, until all the items have been auctioned. Your numbered bidder card must be raised to bid and will be acknowledged by the auctioneer or one of his spotters. Winning bidders will be asked to sign a confirmation sheet at the completion of each live item sale.

PAYMENT AND PICKUP Winners are displayed on a monitor. You need not be present to win. In the event of a dispute, a Grand Gala official holds the final authority in determining the winning bid. LIVE AUCTION SIX IF BY SEAWORLD From theme parks and family attractions to world-class golf, shopping, and dining, there’s something for everyone in Orlando. And a 2-bedroom condo for up to six guests at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club at Seaworld is the perfect spot to start exploring all Orlando has to offer! SeaWorld is within walking distance, and Walt Disney World, Universal, and the shopping and nightlife of Orlando’s International Drive are all within reach. Within the resort, you’ll find even more to explore: pools, spas, tennis courts, and recreation activities for all ages, just to name a few. We’ll even include a gift card to cover your daily activity fees at the resort! Available August 10-17, 2019 only. Transportation not included.

DRS. TRICIA AND RENIER BRENTJENS, P’17,’19,’22

TEE IT UP AT LIBERTY NATIONAL With its breathtaking urban vistas and gentle harbor breezes, Liberty National is certainly one of the world’s most spectacular golf courses. But it’s more than just a pretty face – it’s also tough enough to challenge the world’s best, hosting the PGA Tour for The Barclays in 2009 and 2013, and top golfers from around the world at the Presidents’ Cup last year. Of course, for mere mortals, just getting a tee time is a feat unto itself. So if you’re ready to take on the prestigious, championship course located right in Prep’s back yard, this is your opportunity to tee up and put your game to the test! One winning bidder will receive a round for four with lunch included; a second will receive a round for three with lunch included.

ROMAN HOLIDAY Experience the Eternal City in style! Spend five days and four nights at the Mariott Grand Hotel Flora, located on the Via Veneto, adjacent to the Villa Borghese gardens and the ancient city walls. From this luxurious address, dozens of centuries of history and culture unfold in every direction. The city is yours to discover, and when your trip is at an end, and you inevitably find yourself hoping you can visit Rome again one day, good news: the Trevi Fountain is just a few blocks away from the hotel, for all your wishing needs! This package also includes two tickets to a public Papal Audience at the Vatican, so be sure to wave to Pope Francis and let him know your favorite Jesuit school sent you! Mutually agreeable dates, Tuesday-Saturday only.

MR. AND MRS. RAYMOND MIKOVITS, P’13,’17,’20; MR. J. PAUL SCHAETZLE, ’71

LIVE AUCTION NFL DRAFT VIP EXPERIENCE The best way to experience the NFL Draft, of course, is to be up on stage after an NFL franchise’s GM calls your name. We can’t quite make that happen, but this might be the next best thing. We’ll fly you and a guest to Nashville for the 2019 Draft, with a two-night hotel stay included. With two VIP passes, you’ll have access not only to the draft, but also to NFL Hospitality for Thursday through Saturday. And of course, your passes get you into Fan Fest and all the rest of the weekend’s fan-facing events. You’ll also receive two NFL Draft gift bags, packed with official draft gear and more!

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, MR. J. PAUL SCHAETZLE, ’71

6 FRIENDS, 3 COURSES, THE ONE & ONLY LIGHT HORSE Named for “Light Horse Harry” Lee, hero of the Battle of Paulus Hook, and set in an 1840s building painstakingly restored by its family of owners, the Light Horse Tavern combines an appreciation for tradition with contemporary flair. No wonder it’s been a favorite neighborhood spot since its 2002 debut. Co-owners (and Prep parents) Joan and Bill Gray will welcome your party of 6 to enjoy an appetizer, dinner, and dessert – the perfect opportunity to discover the New American creations of Jersey City native chef Carlos Ortega. Explore the extensive wine cellar with a $300 credit for the wines of your choice. And of course, included at no charge is the warm, friendly atmosphere that continues to turn visitors into regulars! Available Tuesday-Saturday evenings, please reserve 2 weeks in advance. Expires December 31, 2019.

LIGHT HORSE TAVERN

LIVE AUCTION A PIGSKIN PILGRIMAGE Some may daydream about azure seas, pink sands, and warm ocean breezes, but for the true college football fanatic, paradise looks like sunny South Bend, Indiana on a chilly autumn Saturday. Every football fan should make the journey to Notre Dame Stadium at least once, and there’s no time like the present to plan yours! You’ll get four tickets to the November 16 showdown between Notre Dame and Navy, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Fighting Irish football facilities, and two spacious hotel rooms for two nights at the Residence Inn South Bend, with breakfast included. Transportation not included. MR. AND MRS. ROBERT J. BRANCATELLA, ’85, P’16,’18, ’21, MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM P. FITZPATRICK, P’07,’16, MR. AND MRS. THOMAS HEIM, P’18, MR. AND MRS. CORNELL J. RESERVED PARKING FOR THE LUCKIEST PREP SENIOR EVER! On any given day, more than 3/4 of Prep’s students arrive on foot, most having walked from the PATH or Light Rail stations nearby. But for those seniors who drive to school, getting the family car is often the easy part – finding a place to park it around Grand & Warren, not so much! Well, for one lucky member of the Class of 2020 whose parents are feeling especially generous, we have the solution. The winning bidder’s favorite senior will receive monthly parking at the Little Man garage on Montgomery Street, just steps from Prep, from September 2019 to May 2020...in other words, one less reason to be late to class! Valid for 2019-20 school year only, for use only by a member of the Class of 2020. MR. AND MRS. MICHAEL BLOMGREN, P’22, MR. AND MRS. ALEX DIAZ, P’19, MS. JUDITH DISLA, P’21, MR. AND MRS. SUMMER FUN IN THE VERMONT SUN! You won’t find much snow at Mount Snow, Vermont, in the summer months, but you will find outdoor fun and adventure around every corner! Spend a week in the natural splendor of New England, with up to eight people – you’ll all sleep comfortably in this condo with two bedrooms, two baths, and a loft! Enjoy zip lines, water slides, and mini golf on the premises, with outstanding public golfing and outlet shopping just a short distance away. There’s also an outdoor heated pool and patio, with grills for cooking. And if you feel like staying indoors, the nearby clubhouse offers a gameroom with pool table, ping pong, and more. Mutually agreed upon date during summer 2019.

MR. AND MRS. TERENCE H. CARROLL, P’15,’16,’18

LIVE AUCTION A DAY IN THE BRONX WITH FR. AZZARTO Fr. Azzarto may be retired from working full-time at Prep, but as anyone who’s been around campus this year can attest, he’s still woven into the fabric of the Prep community! And he can’t wait to introduce some friends from Prep to his new home at Fordham University in the Bronx! Join Fr. Azzarto and his fellow Jesuits for Mass at Murray-Weigel Hall, then tour Fordham’s beautiful Rose Hill campus. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s just a short walk to the famous Italian eateries of Arthur Avenue for a pizza lunch. Take home some nice fresh mozzarella to share – although if it’s still warm from the kettle, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to resist eating it on the way home! Mutually agreed date.

REV. ANTHONY AZZARTO, S.J.
