At my studio you will find an enthusiastic blacksmith over an anvil forging some quirky creation. But you would probably notice all the dinosaurs and sheep sculptures surrounding you first. Don't worry, they shouldn't bite.

What to expect: I will put on demonstrations forging traditional items including, rams heads, leaves and the popular wee houses. This will be showing you many of the techniques crucial to blacksmithing and give you an insight into how I made the sculptures you will see.

Thomas Tosh Thornhill has great food and coffee with a lovely wee shop that is only 100 metres from my studio, so it would make a lovely lunch break.

Directions: My studio is in Thornhill; turn right at the roundabout down to the school, take the first left and it is immediately in front of you, in the old sandstone school.

Accessibility: The main entrance is up a slight incline. Plenty of parking in Thornhill and at the school across the street.

We are an independent arts organisation and public gallery located in Cample. We present a year-round programme of exhibitions, screenings, workshops, and events, sharing the work of contemporary artists, filmmakers and writers from across the world with our local communities and beyond.

Our Spring 2023 exhibition is: Kira Freije, river by night; 25 March - 11 June 2023; Entry is free; Thurs-Sun, 11am-4pm (open over Spring Fling). Kira Freije's solo exhibition, entitled 'river by night', will include new and recent sculptural work that fuses figurative, assemblage and functional forms, and combines industrial metalworking and glass-blowing techniques. Elements that recur in Freije’s work – the human presence, narrative fragments, evocation of time and place, and references to interior states and to the built and natural worlds – will take on a distinct charge in relation to Cample’s domestic scale and rural setting.

Directions: We are located 2 miles south of Thornhill and about 14 miles north of Dumfries. Cample is signposted from the A76 exiting south from Thornhill. We are at Cample Mill 1.5 miles from the A76, adjacent to Cample rail viaduct.
