KEEPING COLOR ADANS HEALTHY WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK King Soopers City Market does so much more than sell food — in fact, that’s just the tip of the healthcare iceberg the supermarket brand has been building on the eastern slope since 1947. A premier sponsor of the 2014 Successful Aging Expo, King Soopers has won “Best Supermarket” the past 11 years in The Gazette’s Best of the Springs, and it’s easy to see why. From Registered Dietitians who organize in-store health education to The Little Clinic, a walk-in acute care clinic staffed by board certified Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, the stores offer shoppers a variety of healthy options, including natural foods, organic produce, and locally grown “Colorado Proud” items. “We have variety and completeness in our stores,” said Jennifer Cullingford, manager of health and wellness at King Soopers City Market. “It’s a one-stop shop, we have everything you need, from gluten free to supplements to a full-service pharmacy.” Be sure to stop by the King Soopers exhibit at the expo, where team members will be showcasing its “Your Health Matters To Us” program, which includes a variety of healthy eating, smart shopping, and quality self-care options. Or, stop by if you just want to have a little fun. “We’ll have a Zumba dance floor and screen out for those who want
to move a little bit,” Cullingford said. “There will also be a spin wheel game and trivia questions — all to help people broaden their nutrition knowledge. We’ll also have a chef there preparing quick and easy recipes to use on leftovers.” The exhibit will also be staffed by a Registered Dietitian and pharmacist who will be educating expo attendees on immunizations, weight loss, and more. From 1-2 p.m. in the Centennial Room, Registered Dietitian Danelle Vallejos will lead a seminar on “Eating Healthy on a Budget.” Event attendees can also learn more about the Simple Truth natural and organic food line and NuVal — a tool to help shoppers decipher the aisles of options based on package numbers for entities like fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fats, cholesterol and sugars. Dietitians offer training in reading NuVal scores to guests during in-store Walk & Talk tours and can help answer nutrition questions at the expo. “We do all we can to make shopping easier for our customers,” Cullingford said. “We have wonderful associates who are also committed to answering questions and having that connection with their customers.” For more information, please visit kingsoopers.com or successfulagingcs.com.

HI TECH AIDS, OLD-FASHIONED SERVICE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Even if you’ve never been inside Sandia Hearing Aid Center, chances are you’d recognize it. That’s because it has been in business since 1959 and hasn’t changed its location at Union Boulevard and E. Jackson Street — just northeast of downtown — for more than 23 years. And owner Ron King doesn’t plan to change that anytime soon. “We have the same, quality office staff that we’ve had for years, the same strong customer service,” said King, board certified in hearing instrument services. “We hear over and over again that we are the only ones in town with this kind of commitment to our folks.” One step into the center and patients are invited into the cozy space with a warm greeting from office manager Norma Brewer. Also board certified in hearing instrument sciences, Brewer does much more than answer phone calls and schedule appointments — she knows each patient’s needs and can step in to do cleanings, adjustments and answer questions as needed. “We really seek to take all the stress out of this for our patients,” she said. “We know it can be so frustrating, many patients come in at their wit’s end, but they always leave knowing they’ve been treated with respect and taken care of.” Sandia Hearing combines its
good, old-fashioned customer service with the latest in hearing aid technology. King said he often helps younger seniors who work in the corporate world take advantage of all their aids can do for them. From Bluetooth technology for every kind of smart phone to wireless antennas for TVs and microphones, Sandia carries hi tech options for active aid wearers of all ages. They can even assist patients in downloading applications to their smartphones that make adjusting base and treble settings on aids as simple as one screen swipe. And if you need a testimony, just ask 74-year-old Millie Smith, who has been wearing hearing aids for 53 years. “They treat me so well, they answer all my questions — I never feel like they don’t have time for me,” she said. “They have helped me out greatly. Smith recently was fitted for a newer, smaller aid and remarked at the difference it made in her hearing. “It’s so terrible, when you can’t hear. You avoid parties, malls, everything. I can’t say enough about what they’ve done for me.” Stop by Sandia Hearing’s exhibit at the 2014 Successful Aging Expo to have all your hearing aid questions answered by an expert. For more information, please visit kingsandia.com or successfulagingcs.com.

GET ESTATE PLANNING, LEGAL TIPS BY HANNAH BLICK, HANNAH.BLICK@GAZETTE.COM
When it comes to estate planning, Bob Odle’s got you covered. Odle will represent downtown firm Odle Law, LLC at the 2014 Successful Aging Expo on November 1 with advice for seniors and their families on getting all those ducks in a row. “I’m not here to sell you a preplanned, one-size-fits-all package — it just doesn’t work that way,” Odle said. “It’s about relationships. I like to work with individuals and meet them in their situation.” Odle will offer brief consultations to expo attendees — be sure to stop by the Odle Law exhibit to sign up for a time slot. The exhibit will also feature literature and information on estate planning, probate law, and more. For another chance to pick up some of Odle’s legal insights, attend
“Estate Planning Basics” from noon – 1 p.m. in Centennial Room. He will cover a variety of topical issues including wills, trusts, estates and more. Whether you are starting from scratch or just need to clarify a few legal details, each audience member is sure to walk away more confident in planning their estate. Odle Law practices in a variety of fields, from criminal law to probate and estate planning to civil litigation, while maintaining respect and dignity for clients and their families. Odle is, and always has been, passionate about serving his community with his practice. “I enjoy working with seniors,” Odle said. “I like being able to inform them of what their options are and seeing them make decisions for themselves.”
Atlas Chiropratic PROVIDING PATIENTS WITH IMPROVED MOBILITY, HEALTH BY HANNAH BLICK, HANNAH.BLICK@GAZETTE.COM
The path to mobility is less painful than you might think. Just ask Dr. Derin Dopps, Doctor of Chiropractic at Atlas Chiropractic. “But we promote healthy lifestyle and helping people reach their maximum health potential,” he said. Dr. Dopps will join Dr. John Davis and Dr. Eric Carlson, Doctors of Chiropractic, at the Successful Aging Expo on November 1. Collectively, they have close to 50 years of chiropractic experience and expertise to help senior patients overcome immobility. “We can create a comprehensive package to maximize health,” Dr. Dopps said. “We can plan and make a long-term change; we can train muscles, tendons and our rehab team can work to strengthen patients.” The team at Atlas Chiropractic
has also done painstaking research to find the best supplements for its patients. The results are an alkaline-based, non-toxic supplement that is easily absorbed and 100 percent usable by the body. “Many people are flushing $40 worth of supplements down the toilet each morning because they’re mineral-based and not easily absorbed,” Dr. Dopps said. Atlas Chiropractic also implements the latest in chiropractic technology, including a SpineMED decompression table especially equipped to treat disc degeneration and general lower back and arthritic conditions. Stop by the Atlas Chiropractic exhibit at the Expo to enter your name in various giveaways for anti-aging products, natural supplements, and chiropractic care.
