PERFORMANCE POLYESTER AIR FILTERS FOR CARS



THE COMPANY

Established in 1952, Sprint Filter began production of innovative, high-performance air filters and intake systems, working together with the best manufacturers of supply systems and top teams. Constant research and development of new filtering fabrics and intake systems have been at the heart of Sprint Filter products for over 60 years. Thanks to this experience, Sprint Filter can meet all types of requirements; from a simple performance filter replacing the OEM unit, to entire intake systems utilizing carbon fiber, fiberglass and plastics. Filtering elements manufactured from unique micro-calibrated polyester fabrics are incorporated into every Sprint Filter design. In 2010, Sprint Filter started to modernize its production plants and launched its motorcycle line. Today, Sprint Filter is the trusted supplier to over 70% of the MotoGP teams, as well as OEM supplier to several models of Ducati SuperSport motorcycles. In the last five years, Sprint Filter models P08, P037, P08F1-85 have become the benchmark for the aftermarket and racing industries. In October 2018, Sprint Filter restructured its automotive air filter and intake production to increase their product offerings to supply most of the vehicles on the road today.


POLYESTER AIR FILTERS A WINNING TECHNOLOGY Current production vehicles are typically equipped with paper filters, while performance vehicles used oil-soaked cotton or sponge. An air filter job is to guarantee good air flow while preventing significant particles from ending up in the engine. These two operations naturally oppose each other and that is where Sprint Filters’ polyester filtering fabric takes a leap above the rest.

Polyester fabric is extremely permeable, stable and is not affected by folding during construction. Cotton filters, on the other hand, have a weaving that depends on the overlapping of numerous layers, leading to poor flow in some areas and ineffective filtration in others. Sprint Filter features • Constant filtration and air flow over time. • Efficient: The Sprint Filter polyester filters retain 93.13% of 100 µ particles. (P08) 91.8% of 37 µ particles. (P037) 95.22% of 100 µ particles. (P08F1-85) versus the 76.42% of 4-layer oil-soaked cotton. • Constructed of a single polyester membrane, to prevent unwanted separation of different materials.


STEEL MESH Sprint Filter is the first company to use steel mesh with epoxy varnish to support the filter membrane. The advantages? The strength of the wire allows a wider mesh to be woven, with the filter surface area increasing from 66% to 80%. Using a steel mesh instead of a light alloy does not increase the weight. Not only are the openings wider, but the diameter of the wire used is smaller, which extensively compensates for any material weight differences.

UNDER THE MICROSCOPE

The construction precision of the polyester filter offers equal filtration that remains constant over time. By contrast, a cotton filter has extremely variable openings, from just a few microns to several tenths.

This means that initially the cotton filter has a low filtering power (equal to 50% of a contaminant with a range of between 5 and 200 Âľ). Only after a dust cake forms on the surface does the filtering power increase up to 80% of the above-mentioned range, but there is a consequent drastic pressure drop. In short, a cotton filter has low filtering power for half of its lifetime, while for its remaining lifetime it has a very high-pressure drop (Less air flow).

EFFICIENCY Because of its uniform structure, the Sprint Filter air filter ensures less air flow disturbance, also thanks to the exclusive and patented filtering material in single-layer polyester that minimizes turbulence over the entire air filter section, thus guaranteeing perfect operation of the air box.

The chart shows the increase in torque and power of a Subaru Legacy GT Spec B with the EJ25 engine. The increased values mean +4.67 Nm for torque and +10 HP for power by simply replacing the air filter, in this case with the P08F1-85 filtering element. Dyno chart from Bren Tuning LLC, USA.


MAINTENANCE Maintenance of the air filter is essential for the protection, care, and efficiency of the engine. A clean and undamaged filter will always ensure the correct quantity of clean air for the air box. Another air filter maintenance aspect is how long it takes to clean. Apart from the time required for disassembly and reassembly, cotton filters demand downtime for washing, drying and oiling the filtering element. None of these operations are required with a Sprint filter. Sprint Filter air filter cleaning procedure is straightforward and quick: use an air jet, in the opposite direction of suction, to remove most of the debris collected. No washing or drying is necessary, so the filter can be refitted immediately. An ordinary detergent or even gasoline can be used in extreme cases, for dirt due to the demanding use of the bike, or deposits from the recovery of oil exhaust fumes. This quick degreasing before blowing totally restores the filter’s performance.



P08 Filtration of 80-micron particles, with a guaranteed air flow of 5,050 l/m2sec, is an amount unattainable by filters using other materials. These figures make the P08 a very versatile and efficient air filter with outstanding performance characteristics, suitable for use on the road.

P08F1-85 (waterproof) All these features make P08F1-85 an air filter particularly suitable for racing, but with the unique Sprint Filter technology, it can also be used on current production road vehicles without needing carburation adjustment by remapping the ECU or additional control units.

P037 (waterproof) The P037 is the only air filter in the world with waterproof characteristics. The weave of the fabric guarantees a filtration power of 37 microns, that combined with its waterproof properties, makes this type of filter particularly suitable for use in demanding conditions. Moreover, the guaranteed air flow of 4,500 l/m2sec. ensures nearly the same power increases of the P08.

PRODUCT LINE REPLACEMENT Sprint Filter OE replacement air filters are produced in three filtration versions, (P08, P037, and P08F1-85) allowing the filtering element to be replaced without any modification and designed for perfect interchangeability with the original air filter.

UNIVERSAL Sprint Filter universal air filters are produced with three types of fabric (P08, P037, and P08F1-85), depending on the type of use. They can be installed by eliminating the original filter holder and can be placed directly on the throttle body or using adapters so they can be housed under protection in an area where they can take in fresh air. This configuration is recommended for extreme performance use.

DYNAMIC INTAKE KITS Sprint Filter produces different systems based on the high quality of the materials used and production processes. To install a Sprint Filter dynamic intake kit, the original filter holder has to be eliminated, and the Sprint Filter intake system has to be connected to the throttle body using pipes not provided in the kit. KD1TCR, Sprint Filter’s top cutting-edge product, is approved by Honda in the World and National Championships through Jas Motorsport.


REPLACEMENT Sprint Filter OE replacement air filters are produced in three filtration versions (P08, P037, and P08F1-85) and were designed for perfect interchangeability with the original air filter without any modifications.

DOUBLE FLOW These special universal air filters are equipped with a reversed filtration cone providing an increased filtering surface, thus allowing additional air into the air intake manifold. The unique configuration of the Double Flow air filter ensures that air enters the center and sides for adequate air entry, even if the filter is positioned in an unfavorable location of the engine compartment. DYNAMIC INTAKE KIT

KD1 KD1, created and patented by Sprint Filter in 1995, is our standard dynamic air intake applicable for all vehicles. Other manufacturers have copied this filter with slight modifications over the years.

KD1-C The KD1 series with its aluminum duct paved the way for the subsequent KD1C, which is distinguished by its carbon duct.

KD1-R KD1R is the carbon duct version of the KD series, to which a velocity stack can be applied to satisfy those who love a more exciting sound.


KD1-TCR KD1TCR, created in 2017, is built entirely from an autoclave molded carbon (both the base and the duct). KD1TCR consists of inlet and outlet diameters much larger than the other models of the KD family to provide vehicles, subjected to extreme tuning, for a larger quantity of air.

KD2 The KD2 series is an air intake with both dynamic and static features. When used with the flexible conduit that brings air in from outside the car to the kit, it expands and compresses the air flow thanks to the Venturi effect to supercharge the engine. When it is instead used statically with a velocity stack, it provides the engine with a more fascinating sound for those who love it. KD2 is quite small, so it can be very easily fitted inside any engine compartment and because of its multitude of diameters, it can be used on both small and large displacement engines.
