RAKU - PLAY WITH FIRE Raku is a Japanese-inspired firing process that creates spectacular results very rapidly. Lots of smoke, fun, spontaneity and surprises! We will also explore alternative firing techniques such as sawdust and saggar and various decorating techniques including terra sigillata, propane torching, smoking, etc. The emphasis is on glazing and firing; therefore, some experience with clay construction methods is desirable, though not mandatory. BASIC FLOWER ARRANGEMENT FUN AND FAB Turn that grocery store bunch of flowers into an artistic arrangement for a special occasion or just to brighten up your home. INTERMEDIATE QUILLING: QUILL YOUR INITIAL This workshop is for students who have taken Introduction to Quilling with the instructor or who have equivalent quilling experience. You will quill an initial of your choice on a 5x7" base, suitable for mounting in a shadowbox. We will focus on creating scrolls and botanical designs using ¼"-wide strips. A Materials Kit Fee of $15 PAYABLE TO INSTRUCTOR AT FIRST CLASS provides you with a shadowbox, paper strips, and 5x7" base with an outline of your initial. COOL BEANS MOSAICS True For ages 14 and up. Beans aren't just for eating. Dried beans can be material for mosaic designs on a flat surface or can decorate a glass vessel or pencil holder. This is a fun activity that doesn't require any experience and is appropriate for parent/child or friend groupings. Bring white glue, pencil and copy paper. Instructor will furnish beans and foam core surface for $10 supply fee. Optionally, bring a clean jar, can or vase. INTRODUCTION TO QUILLING Quilling is the centuries-old process of rolling and shaping strips of paper, which are then adhered to a surface to create a larger design. The class will introduce you to basic quilling techniques and will also cover paper selection, quilling tools, glue selection, and design considerations. The instructor will guide you in applying your new quilling skills to create a "takeaway" piece with a seasonal theme. A $20 materials fee, PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR AT THE TIME OF THE WORKSHOP, gets you all the materials and tools you need for the class and to continue your new craft at home. This class is designed for students of all levels. You can work from photos, a still life setup that will be provided, your own sketches, imagination, or personal objects that you bring to class. We will discuss your goals and what your subject matter will be, during the first class. Special attention will be provided to students that are new to oil painting. Students with experience can start painting immediately. Students will work at their own pace. The instructor will provide helpful suggestions about technique, materials, and answer questions along the way. HOUSE PORTRAITS MADE EASY FUN AND FAB In this workshop we will use a method that makes it easier than you think to turn your home, vacation home, childhood home, or travel photo house into a work of art by using India ink or a waterproof pen and watercolor wash to create a memorable portrait. This workshop provides the opportunity to paint with semi moist nontoxic under-glazes to create a watercolor-like-effect painting on your dish. First you will create a design on paper using traditional watercolors (watercolor instruction provided, as needed). Second you will transfer with instructor's assistance the outline of your design to a bisqued dish. Third, instructor will guide you through process of painting the dish using semi moist non-toxic under-glazes. The painted dishes will be glazed and fired in a ceramic kiln and ready to pick up in a few days. The final dish will be food safe and dishwasher safe. All materials included (with material fee). CAMERA DARKROOM - BEGINNING, INTERMEDIATE & ADVANCED Experience the magic found in creating an image, then watching it come alive right before your eyes in the darkroom. Students will learn the basics of exposing and developing black and white film, then taking those negatives into the darkroom to make prints. Basic printing techniques; contrast control, burning and dodging will be covered in detail with returning students progressing to more advanced techniques including flashing and split printing. Instruction will be given in how to compose, meter and expose photographs. Students will need to bring their own 35mm cameras (automatic and/or manual with instruction booklet, if available.) Negatives will be developed and the darkroom magic will begin. Basic printing skills will be taught and practiced, advancing at individual rates, including presentation of a final photo that will be spotted, matted and framed. INTRODUCTION TO JEWELRY & BEYOND THE BASICS - TEEN CLASS Learn the basic techniques of jewelry fabrication and metalsmithing by making pieces such as bracelets, pendants, and earrings. Also in this course, if you are a returning student, we will go BEYOND the basics! Students will learn more in depth techniques of soldering, cold-connections, stone setting, and more! Beyond the basic returning students will continue broadening their knowledge by tackling more advanced techniques and designs. COMIC BOOK AND MANGA CREATION - AGES 10-15 Have you ever created your own comic book or manga characters or thought about making your own comic books? Atlanta based Fore Runner Comics artist/writer Vincent E. Allen is here to teach you step by step practical ways to develop your own style, create & design your own characters, their powers & stories without the big time production costs.
