Carry Narcan (Naloxone)

CARRY NARCAN Why?

Narcan, sometimes called by the generic name naloxone, reverses an overdose from opioids (e.g., OxyContin, heroin, and fentanyl). While it will not reverse an overdose from non-opioid drugs, fentanyl can be cut into other drugs (e.g. meth, ecstasy, etc.). If you think a person may be overdosing from opioids or drugs laced with fentanyl, you should give them Narcan.

How?

You can receive Narcan by mail at no-cost by emailing cward-freeman@spthb.org, or visiting https://okimready.org/overdose/

HOW TO STORE NARCAN Narcan is a nasal spray that reverses opioid overdose. There are certain ways you should store Narcan.

Narcan typically expires 36 months after its manufacture date. However, expired Narcan may still be somewhat effective.

Narcan should be stored between 68°F and 77°F . For brief periods, it can be kept between 41°F and 104°F.

Your car is not the best place to keep Narcan because it may get too hot or too cold. You can store it in your purse, backpack, or jacket pocket. If the only Narcan you have is expired, cold, or hot, and someone is overdosing, call 911 and use the Narcan. There are no negative side effects, but the Narcan may not be as effective.
