Two-time first-team All-American Lora Evenstad will enter her senior season as one of the top performers on the Husker squad. Evenstad will compete in floor, vault and bars, where she has worked for all three year’s of her career. “I think Lora in a lot of ways is going to be our rock,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “What she has done for Nebraska gymnastics for the last three years has been unbelieveable. She is so consistent. Her hit ratio in competition is unbelieveable. You can always count on her.”

Evenstad proved herself as one of Nebraska’s top performers for the third consecutive year. She became a two-time All-American in 2011, earning first-team accolades on floor after tallying a 9.90 (third place) on the event. Evenstad came in 11th at the NCAA Championship Event Finals on floor. She claimed the first regional crown of her career at the NCAA Corvallis Regional, where she posted a 9.90 on floor to tie for first. Evenstad claimed 10 individual titles in 2011, including nine on floor and one on bars. She notched All-Big 12 honors on vault and floor and was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team for her accomplishments on bars (9.85 - second place) and floor (9.875 - third place) at the Big 12 Championships. She posted career-high scores of 9.95 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.725 on beam, 9.925 on floor and 39.275 in the all-around in her junior season. She made her all-around debut at the Metroplex Challenge and was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for her efforts on Feb. 1. Evenstad also continued to excel in the classroom, capturing first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the second-straight year, while earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

At the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa, Evenstad was named the 2009 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship team after finishing second on floor (9.90). At the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional she came in seventh on floor after earning a score of 9.85.

Evenstad competed for Coach James Bayer at Red River Valley Gymnastics Club in Grand Forks, N.D. A Level 10 gymnast, she swept every individual title at the North Dakota State Championships for four straight years from 2003 to 2006, and took first in the all-around, vault and bars at the 2006 Junior Olympic Region IV Championships. At Nationals in 2005, Evenstad finished third on floor, then placed sixth on bars and ninth in the all-around at the same meet in 2006. At the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships, she claimed the all-around title. In addition to winning her first all-around crown, Evenstad placed third on vault and floor and tied for eighth on bars and beam. Evenstad chose Nebraska over Utah and Michigan.

PERSONAL

Lora was born Dec. 2, 1989, in Grand Forks, N.D. and is the daughter of Dean and Vicky Evenstad. She has one brother, Ryan. A 2008 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in East Grand Forks, Minn., Lora was a member of the honor roll, National Honor Society and the dance team. She is a nutrition, exercise and health science major at Nebraska.

2010 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Evenstad became an All-American in 2010, earning first-team accolades on vault at the 2010 NCAA Championships. She proved to be one of the Huskers’ most valuable gymnasts and continually provided clutch performances for NU. She earned her first Big 12 event titles on March 27, tying for first on vault (9.90) and floor (9.90). Evenstad was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team for both events and was also named All-Big 12 on floor. She produced her ninth score of 9.90 or higher on floor at the NCAA Lexington Regional, tying for third in the event. Evenstad then hit a 9.90 on vault at the 2010 NCAA Gymnastics Championships. She notched career-high scores of 9.90 on vault, 9.875 on bars and 9.925 on floor, as she eventually tallied eight individual titles on the season. Evenstad hit nine scores of 9.90 or better on floor during her sophomore campaign and was also a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall and Spring Honor Rolls for the second time.

Janelle Giblin, a three-time All-American, will contribute to the Husker lineup in all four events after competing last season as the only all-arounder on the squad for much of the season. “She has gotten stronger each year and I expect her to keep improving this year,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She has another gear when it comes to competition and I think it really shows, and that’s a really good trait for her.”

Janelle was born Sept. 20, 1991, in San Francisco, Calif. She is the daughter of Jim and Jane Giblin and has two sisters, Jennifer and Jillian. A 2009 graduate of California High School, she carried a 4.0 all four years of high school and is a pre-physical therapy major at Nebraska. Giblin chose Nebraska over Oregon State, Washington, Stanford, California and Denver.

2011 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Giblin came established herself as a consistent performer for Nebraska in her sophomore season, excelling as an all-arounder and three-event specialist. A three-time All-American for NU, Giblin captured first-team All-America honors on vault (9.90, third) and second-team accolades in the all-around (39.25, seventh) at the 2011 NCAA Championships while helping the Huskers to a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA Super Six. Giblin also tied for fifth on vault (9.80) at the event finals. Giblin debuted as an all-arounder for Nebraska against Iowa State, totaling a score of 39.025. It marked the first all-around performance of her career and made her the first all-arounder to compete for the Huskers in 2011. She tallied career highs of 9.90 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.85 on beam, 9.85 on floor and 39.275 in the all-around as a sophomore. She earned five event titles on the season, including two on bars, one on beam and two in the all-around. She was named an All-Big 12 performer on bars and earned All-Big 12 Championship Team recognition on vault after posting a score of 9.85 to tie for fourth. Giblin was also a standout in the classroom, claiming first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the first time in her career. She added spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

Giblin competed for coaches Justin Howell and Liz Crandall at Airborne Gymnastics in Santa Clara, Calif. A Level 10 gymnast, Giblin was the 2008 Level 10 state bars, beam, floor and all-around champion en route to taking the 2008 regional Level 10 bars, beam, floor and all-around crowns. Giblin was a Level 10 national qualifier in 2008 and the 2007 state vault champion. She also earned the 2007 regional bars crown. In addition to those accomplishments, Giblin was also a national qualifier in 2006 and 2007.

Kassandra Nathe (pronounced NAY-thee) was unable to compete in 2011 due to an injury. She is expected to return to the Nebraska lineups in 2012, vying to regain her spot as an all-arounder and three-event specialist. “We’re excited to have her back,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She brings so much to the table. She’s one of the girls you can count on every day to walk into the gym and give it her best every day.”

Nathe missed the 2011 season with an injury. In the classroom, Nathe continued to perform at a high level, earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. Nathe is also a leader for the Huskers in the community and claimed a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2011.

2010 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Nathe was named a second-team All-American on bars at the 2010 NCAA Championships. In her second year as a Husker, she tallied a career-high 9.85 on bars and 9.875 on beam, en route to posting two individual event titles. Nathe posted a season-high 9.85 on bars at the IGI Chicago Style Invite for first in the event. She then earned a piece of the beam crown against Iowa State, receiving a score of 9.85. Nathe tied her career-high score on bars at Penn State, hitting a 9.85. She tied for second on beam with a career-high 9.875 at the 2010 Big 12 Championships, notching a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team. She also earned a first-team academic All-Big 12 mention and a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll.

2009 • FRESHMAN SEASON

Nathe provided a surprising spark in the Husker lineup, competing as an all-arounder in every competition in 2009. She placed ninth in the all-around (38.85), 15th on vault (9.825) and 11th on bars (9.80) at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional on April 4. At the Big 12 Championships, Nathe hit a career-high 9.85 on vault to take third and earn a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team. Nathe posted a season-best 39.175 in the all-around against Utah. She posted a career high on floor (9.825) against Iowa State on March 8, tied her season high on bars (9.825) at Arizona State on March 13 and tied another season high on beam (9.80) at UCLA.

Nathe competed for Coach Mike Hunger at Twin City Twisters. A Level 10 gymnast, she was a four-time Junior Olympic qualifier from 2005 to 2008. At the 2008 Junior Olympic National Championships, Nathe tied for 13th on floor and 15th in the all-around, while also taking 19th on beam. Nathe was the 2007 Region IV all-around and beam champion and took first in beam at regionals in 2006. In addition, she finished 15th on beam in 2006 and 13th on vault in 2005 at the J.O. National Championships. Nathe chose Nebraska over Iowa State and Utah State.

Kassandra was born Jan. 5, 1990, in Sartell, Minn. and is the daughter of Ken and Doris Nathe. She has one brother, Kent. A 2008 graduate of Sartell High School, Kassandra lettered in cross country and track. She is a family sciences major at Nebraska

BRITTANY SKINNER 5-2 • Junior • All-Around Los Altos, Calif. Los Altos High School/Airborne Gymnastics 2012 • SEASON OUTLOOK

Brittany Skinner will look to be a big-time contibutor in all four event for the Huskers this season. Skinner was a two-time All-American in 2011 and looks to build off her success during her junior season. “Brittany gets better each year in a lot of things she’s doing,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She is extremely talented. Don’t count her out of anything we’re doing, because she has skills and she is powerful. I feel like she has the ability to be a big-time competitor in all four events.”

2011 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Skinner became a two-time All-American in 2011, earning a secondteam All-America award on beam (9.775, fifth) at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Skinner’s performance helped the Huskers advance to the Super Six Team Finals, where they finished fourth. She competed as a three-event specialist for NU on vault, bars and beam throughout her sophomore season. Skinner tabbed career-high scores of 9.90 on vault and 9.875 on bars, in addition to a season-high 9.80 on beam as a sophomore. She earned one event title on bars in her second year with NU and tallied All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades on bars after posting a score of 9.85 for second place on the event at the Big 12 Championships.

In 2009, Skinner made the NorCal State Team while taking second on bars and placing third in the all-around at the state meet. She was the 2009 regional vault and all-around champion and took second on beam. She was the 2008 state uneven bars, floor and all-around champion as a member of the NorCal State Team. Skinner finished first on floor at the 2008 Level 10 regional competition. She took first on vault and in the all-around at the Seattle Open in 2008 and was first in the all-around at the Spirit of Flame competition. In 2007, she took the state vault and bar championships, came in second on vault and fourth on bars, beam and the all-around at regionals, and took seventh on vault at nationals. Skinner was the state vault champion in 2006 and took second at the regional competition along with placing sixth on beam at nationals.

Brittany was born Dec. 21, 1990, in Camp Pendleton, Calif. She is the daughter of Greg and Stacia Skinner and has one brother, Grant. A 2009 graduate of Los Altos High School, she was a member of the dance team in high school and is a business major at Nebraska. Skinner chose Nebraska over Oklahoma, Arizona, Washington and Denver.

2010 • FRESHMAN SEASON

Skinner earned a first-team All-America award on vault at the 2010 NCAA Championships. She competed in four meets as an all-arounder for NU, totaling season highs of 9.875 on vault, 9.85 on bars, 9.825 on beam, 9.85 on floor and 39.125 in the all-around. She made her Husker debut at Washington, where she posted a 9.725 on vault and a 9.10 on floor. Skinner improved in her second week of competition for NU, hitting a 9.825 on vault and a 9.625 on floor. She showed her knack for performing by hitting a career-high 9.85 on floor when the Huskers took on Michigan on Jan. 24. Skinner matched her season-high score of 9.875 on vault and 9.85 on floor at the IGI Chicago Style Invite. She tied for second on vault and third on floor as a result of her efforts. In a last-minute decision, Skinner was placed in the all-around lineup for the first time at the Masters Classic. In her first collegiate beam performance outside of exhibition routines, she hit a 9.825 to take second in the event. She totaled an all-around score of 39.125. In her second all-around competition, Skinner hit a 9.80 on bars en route to posting an all-around score of 38.875. Skinner notched a season-high 9.85 on bars and tied a career high with a 39.125 in the all-around against Iowa State March 14.

Millard West High School/Nebraska Gold 2012 • SEASON OUTLOOK Deanna Barmore will compete primarily on the vault, while also providing depth at beam for the Huskers in her sophomore season. “She’s got the ability to do a big vault, now with the ability to land and not have any pain. If she can find the floor and land, she’s going to challenge some people on vault.”

Barmore entered her first year with the Huskers ready to make an impact in NU’s vault and beam lineups. Nebraska looked to her for depth at both positions throughout the entire season. She tied her career high on vault with a 9.725 at the NCAA Corvallis Regional on April 2.

She is a nutrition, exercise and health science major at Nebraska.

Jamie Schleppenbach, a Lincoln native, is one of the Huskers’ top vaulters and will be counted on to perform on a high level on vault and the floor exercise for the Huskers. “She’s just had some injury tweaks here and there,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “If she can stay healthy for a period of time, I think you could really see her start to shine. Her vault is huge and she is powerful on floor.”

Schleppenbach captured first-team All-America honors on vault at the 2011 NCAA Championships while helping the Huskers to a fourthplace team finish at the Super Six Team Finals. Schleppenbach developed into a key asset for Nebraska on vault and beam in her freshman season. She posted a 9.90 (third place) on vault at the NCAA Championship Semifinals, then added a 9.95 on the event at the Super Six Team Finals. She notched a 12th-place finish on vault at the Event Finals, capping her freshman campaign. She tied for fourth on vault and earned All-Big 12 Championship Team honors with a score of 9.85 at the conference championships. In addition, she tallied All-Big 12 accolades on vault. Schleppenbach earned two vault titles on the year and claimed career highs of 9.95 on vault, 9.80 on beam and 9.775 on floor in 2011. A first-team All-American as a freshman, Emily Wong has high expectations for her sophomore season, as she looks to crack the lineup in all four events for the Huskers. “I’m absolutely so impressed with this young lady,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “The way she comes in here and goes about herself each and every day. This is her second year and I have not seen her have a bad day. She has fun. She works hard and she knows what she has to do.”

Wong capped an impressive freshman season by claiming first-team All-America honors on bars at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Wong’s score of 9.875 in the semifinals helped the Huskers advance to the NCAA Super Six Team Finals. NU took fourth at the Super Six, thanks in part to Wong’s 9.90 on bars. She added an 11th-place finish at the Event Finals with an average of 9.8125. Wong notched four event titles on the season, including three on bars and one on beam. She posted a 9.90 on beam at the Big 12 Championships, tying for third and earning All-Big 12 Championship Team honors. She tallied career highs of 9.90 on bars, 9.90 on beam and 9.875 on floor as a freshman. Wong was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during the fall and spring semesters.

Wong competed for coaches James and JJ Bayer at Red River Valley Gymnastics in Grand Forks, N.D. She was the North Dakota state allaround champion in 2008 and 2009, in addition to being the North Dakota vault, bars, beam and floor champion in 2009. She placed fifth in the all-around, fourth on bars and third on beam at the 2009 regionals. Wong garnered a 10th-place finish on beam and came in 16th in the allaround at the 2009 Junior Olympic National Championships as well. She chose Nebraska over Iowa State, Southern Utah and Southeast Missouri State.

Emily was born on Aug. 7, 1992, in Grand Forks, N.D. She is the daughter of John and Karen Wong and has two sisters, Melissa and Lindsey, and one brother, Michael. Katelyn Busacker will provide the Huskers with solid depth on the bars and beam as she enters her senior season at Nebraska. “Her maturity and leadership are going to be instrumental for our team as we go down the stretch,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She brings a big swing on bars, and I think she wants to end her career on a high note.”

Busacker was a three-year letterwinner at Ball State before transferring after her junior season to Nebraska. While at Ball State, Busacker competed mainly on the beam and uneven bars where she posted a career high 9.85 on bars and 9.825 on beam, both in her junior season. As a sophomore, Busacker scored 9.70 or higher five times on beam. Busacker competed for coaches Cathy Cahoy-Seaton and Raechel Germain at Cahoy’s Gymnastics training center in Omaha, Neb. Busacker was a Level 10 competitor in high school

I think she has the ability to be huge on all four events for us and turn into an amazing competitor.”

DeZiel competed for Mike Hunger at Twin City Twisters in Champlin, Minn. DeZiel, an elite level gymnast, comes to Nebraska after representing the United States at the 2011 Pan American Games where she helped the U.S. team capture gold, and posted the team’s highest scores on vault (15.125), beam (13.275) and floor exercise (13.150), with her vault score being the highest in the entire competition. DeZiel is also a two-time Junior Olympic all-around champion (2010, 2011), and a five-time JO qualifier. The Rogers, Minn., native finished 17th at the Visa Nationals in 2011.

PERSONAL

DeZiel was born on August 12, 1993, in Crystal, Minn. She is the daughter of Craig and Jean DeZiel and has one sister, Brittany. An honor roll student at Spectrum High School for four years, DeZiel has not yet decided a major at Nebraska.

Amanda Lauer will provide the Huskers with depth on beam in her freshman season while expanding her skills to make the transition to collegiate gymnastics. “This kid comes in and works hard every day,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She’s a good person, works hard, and is a good student. Hopefully, she’s able to provide us some depth later in the year.”

Lauer competed for coaches Mike Durante and Stephanie Kelly at Premiere Gymnastics in Omaha, Neb. Lauer was a Junior Olympic National Qualifier for two consecutive years (2009, 2010) and placed sixth on beam in 2010. Lauer was the 2010 Regional beam champion and placed second in the all-around. In addition, she was named the Nebraska beam champion at the state meet in 2010 and 2011, and the bars champion in 2011. Lauer placed fourth among Level 10 gymnasts at the 2011 Derby Classic, where she posted a 36.850 all-around score.

Jennifer Lauer will compete for a spot in the lineup in all four events for NU, and will provide solid depth for the Huskers. “I feel like Jennifer has some power,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She just has to keep plugging. She just needs to get that mentality to keep going every day. I think if she does that, one day she’s going to come into the gym and we’re going to say, “Wow, there’s Jennifer Laurer.”

At 2010 Regionals she took fourth in the all-around. In 2009, she won the all-around and bars titles at the Regional Championships.

Desiré Stephens is a high-energy gymnast who will provide depth across the board for NU during her freshman campaign, and looks to make her mark on all four events. “She’s got high goals to do all four events for us this year,” Head Coach Dan Kendig said. “She’s powerful. She’s aggressive. I think the biggest thing she brings is her personality right now and what that can do for a team.”

Stephens competed for Nebraska Gold Gymnastics in Omaha, under the coaching of Barb Bottieri, Andi Molina and Don Houlton. She was the 2011 all-around and vault state champion and took second in bars, beam and floor. Stephens finished fifth in the all-around at the 2011 Region IV meet, while tying for first on floor and second on vault. Stephens took third on vault at Regionals in 2009, while also placing 10th on bars, third on beam and seventh on floor and all-around. In addition, Stephens competed on all events in the 2009 JO National Championships.

Stephens was born on May 1, 1993, in Phoenix, Ariz. Stephens is the daughter of Cory and Jeri Wiedel, and has one sister, Jayden, and one brother, Jagger. Stephens is majoring in nutrition, health and exercise sciences at Nebraska.
