HUSKERS MATCH BEST FINISH IN SCHOOL HISTORY

The Nebraska women's gymnastics team matched its best finish at the NCAA Championships in school history in Cleveland, Ohio, placing fourth in the team competition and taking away an overall record of 22-12 on the year. Nine Huskers earned 11 All-America honors at the event, while six competitors (Erin Davis, Janelle Giblin, Jamie Schleppenbach, Maria Scaffidi, Emily Wong and Lora Evenstad) qualified for individual event finals. Nebraska's appearance at the NCAA Championships was its 20th overall in program history, while marking its 10th overall Super Six appearance. Senior Erin Davis forever earned a spot in the Husker record books after ending her Nebraska career at the NCAA Championships in Cleveland. A native of Round Rock, Texas, Davis entered her senior season defending her status as one of the nation's best on vault and floor, continuing the dominance and consistency she showed in 2010. She was named a first-team All-American on vault and floor at the 2011 NCAA Championships and earned 10 individual titles in 2011, including eight on vault and two on floor. Davis achieved her second career 10.0 with a perfect score on vault against Arizona State on March 6. She also tallied a career-high 9.90 on floor two times over the course of the season. Davis claimed two event wins at the Big 12 Championships on March 19, finishing first on vault (9.925) and floor (9.90). She earned All-Big 12 honors on vault and All-Big 12 Championship accolades on vault and floor. She was also selected as the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year. Davis claimed the second regional event title of her career on April 2 at the NCAA Corvallis Regional. Davis tallied a 9.875 on vault to tie for first in the event. She came in third at the NCAA Championships on vault, averaging a score of 9.8188. The last time a Husker placed in the top-five at the NCAA Championships was in 2007. In addition, she was consistently ranked No. 1 on vault throughout much of the 2011 season. Senior Brittnee Habbib was named a second-team All-American at the 2011 NCAA Championships, earning accolades on beam. She remained a valuable bars, beam and floor specialist for NU in her final season. The 2010 NCAA Lexington Regional bars champion, Habbib captured a career high of 9.85 on beam as a senior. In addition, she posted season-high scores of 9.85 on bars and 9.825 on floor. Habbib captured four event titles in 2011, including one on bars and three on beam. She also led NU in the community,

earning second-team academic All-Big 12 accolades, as well as being named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall 2010 Honor Roll. She also was named to the list Big 12 Winter Community of Champions. Senior Maria Scaffidi tallied the first All-America honor of her career at the 2011 NCAA Championships, earning first-team accolades on bars. She excelled as a bars, beam and floor specialist for the Huskers and boasted career highs of 9.925 on bars and 9.85 on beam, in addition to a season high of 9.875 on floor. Scaffidi captured six titles on the season, including five on bars and one on floor. Her accomplishments were highlighted by being named the Big 12 bars champion at the conference championships on March 19. She posted a score of 9.90 on the event and earned All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades. She placed 10th on bars at the NCAA Championship Event Finals with a mark of 9.825. Scaffidi was also honored with a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection and earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall 2010 Honor Roll. Senior Maddie Steinauer tabbed a second-team AllAmerican honor on beam at the 2011 NCAA Championships, as she excelled in her second year with the Huskers on vault, beam and floor. She posted career highs of 9.90 on beam and 9.875 on floor as a senior. She was the Huskers' lead-off performer on beam all season and was also named first-team academic All-Big 12. Junior Lora Evenstad became a two-time All-American at the 2011 NCAA Championships, earning first-team honors on floor. She proved herself as one of Nebraska's top performers for the third year in a row. She claimed career-high scores of 9.95 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.725 on beam, 9.925 on floor and 39.275 in the all-around. Evenstad captured nine floor titles on the season and one bars crown. She also notched All-Big 12 honors on vault and floor and was named to the All-Big 12 Championship team for her accomplishments on bars and floor at the Big 12 Championships. In addition, she tallied first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Evenstad earned the first regional title of her career at the NCAA Corvallis Regional where she posted a 9.90 on floor to tie for first-place. She finished 11th on floor at the NCAA Championship Event Finals to close her junior season. Junior Kassandra Nathe, a second-team All-American on bars in her sophomore season, was sidelined with an

injury in 2011. Junior Kaitlin Reid joined the Huskers after spending two seasons at Cal State Fullerton, where she was a bars and beam specialist for the Titans. She earned a 9.60 on bars at the Metroplex Challenge in her Husker debut. Sophomore Janelle Giblin became a three-time AllAmerican at the 2011 NCAA Championships, earning first-team honors on vault and second-team accolades in the all-around. She was a solid and consistent contributor for Nebraska in 2011. Giblin debuted as an all-arounder for Nebraska against Iowa State and tallied career highs of 9.90 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.85 on beam, 9.85 on floor and 39.275 in the all-around. Giblin earned five event titles on the season, including two on bars, one on beam and two in the all-around. She was also named an All-Big 12 performer on bars and earned All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades on vault, in addition to claiming a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll. She earned a fifth-place finish on vault at the NCAA Championship Event Finals to end her sophomore campaign. Sophomore Brittany Skinner captured second-team AllAmerica awards on beam as a sophomore, adding to her first-team All-American accolades on vault as a freshman. She performed as a three-event specialist for NU on vault, bars and beam in her sophomore season. Skinner tabbed career-high scores of 9.90 on vault and 9.875 on bars in 2011, in addition to a season high of 9.80 on beam. She earned one bars title as a sophomore and also tallied All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades on bars. Freshman Deanna Barmore entered her first year with the Huskers ready to make an impact in NU's vault and beam lineups. Nebraska looked to her for depth at both positions throughout the entire season. She tied her career high on vault with a 9.725 at the NCAA Corvallis Regional on April 2. Freshman Jamie Schleppenbach earned first-team All-America honors on vault and proved herself as a key asset to NU's vault and beam lineups throughout the entire season. She claimed career highs of 9.95 on vault, 9.80 on beam and 9.775 on floor. Schleppenbach was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice and earned All-Big 12 and All-Big 12 Championship Team honors on vault. She closed the season with a 12th-place finish on vault at the NCAA Championship Event Finals. Freshman Emily Wong earned first-team All-America honors on bars at the 2011 NCAA Championships. A native of Grand Forks, N.D., she catapulted NU's bars, beam and floor lineups in 2011, while tallying career highs of 9.90 on bars, 9.90 on beam and 9.875 on floor as a freshman. She notched four event titles on the season, including three on bars and one on beam. Wong posted a 9.90 on beam at the Big 12 Championships and earned All-Big 12 Championship Team honors for her efforts. She finished her freshman campaign with an 11th-place finish on bars at the NCAA Championship Event Finals. With the Huskers' 22-12 record, Head Coach Dan Kendig finished his 18th season at Nebraska with a programbest 416-163-4, continuing his impressive career as the winningest coach in NU women's gymnastics history. During Kendig's tenure, the Huskers have qualified for the NCAA Championships 14 times, making 10 appearances at the Super Six Finals. Kendig has coached 39 All-Americans to 113 first- or second-team honors.

SUPERIOR STAFF •Head Coach Dan Kendig finished his 18th season at Nebraska with a 416-163-4 mark, continuing his impressive career as the winningest coach in NU women's gymnastics history. Kendig led the Husker bars squad with 13 titles on the season, highlighted by All-Americans Maria Scaffidi and Emily Wong. •Nebraska captured eight individual titles on beam in 2011. All-Americans Brittnee Habbib and Maddie Steinauer totaled three beam titles each. •Nebraska's floor team tallied 12 individual titles, led by Lora Evenstad, who took home nine top finishes. •On vault the Huskers totaled 10 titles on the year. Erin Davis posted a perfect 10.0 on March 6, earning All-America honors along with Giblin and Schleppenbach on the event at the NCAA Championships.

2011 • SENIOR SEASON

Erin Davis capped an impressive Nebraska career as a two-time AllAmerican, two-time regional vault champion and a three-time Big 12 champion, while helping the Huskers match the best team finish in school history at the 2011 NCAA Championships. The Round Rock, Texas, native earned first-team All-America honors on vault and floor in 2011, while helping the Huskers to a fourth-place team finish at the NCAA Super Six. She posted a 9.95 (first) on vault and 9.90 (third) on floor during semifinal action. She came in third at the NCAA Championship Event Finals on vault, averaging a score of 9.8188. The last time a Husker placed in the top-five at the NCAA Championships was in 2007. In addition, Davis was ranked No. 1 on vault for much of the 2011 season. Davis earned 10 individual titles in 2011, including eight on vault and two on floor. She achieved her second career 10.0 with a perfect score on vault against Arizona State on March 6. It was the second perfect 10 of her career. She also tallied a career-high 9.90 on floor two times over the course of the season. Davis claimed two event wins at the Big 12 Championships on March 19, finishing first on vault (9.925) and floor (9.90). She earned All-Big 12 honors on vault and All-Big 12 Championship accolades on vault and floor. She was also selected as the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year. She was honored as the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week on five occasions. Her five honors were the most by a gymnast in a single year since the award began in 2007. Davis claimed the second regional event title of her career on April 2 at the NCAA Corvallis Regional. She tallied a 9.875 on vault to tie for first in the event. In the classroom, Davis added second-team academic All-Big 12 honors, while earning a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll in 2010.

2010 • JUNIOR SEASON

As a junior, Davis had a breakout year in 2010, highlighted by a perfect 10.0 on vault against Minnesota and Illinois on Jan. 15. It was the first perfect score of her career and made her the first Husker to receive such a mark since Emily Parsons in 2007. Davis was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for her performance. Against Michigan, Davis hit a career-high 9.90 on floor to tie for the event crown with Lora Evenstad, making it Davis’ first career floor title. Davis also earned top vault honors with a mark of 9.875 against the Wolverines. Davis earned top honors on vault on Feb. 12 with a stellar mark of 9.95. She showed her knack for consistency at the Sweetheart Invite, as she posted a 9.95 to lead the Huskers and take the event title for the third-straight week. She hit a vault score of 9.925 at Utah and then against Iowa State on March 14 and was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week again. Davis scored another 9.925 on vault against Penn State to close the regular season. She earned a share of her first Big 12 event title at the championships on March 27, as she tied for first on vault with a 9.90. Davis was also named an All-Big 12 performer and to the All-Big 12 Championship Team. Davis tallied her fist regional crown after posting a 9.90 on vault and tying for first at the NCAA Lexington Regional on April 10. She notched nine individual titles in 2010 and posted nine scores of 9.90 or better on vault. She was consistently ranked among the top-five vaulters in the country throughout her junior season.

2009 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Davis provided experience to Nebraska’s vault and floor lineups in her second year with the Huskers. She started the year by winning the first event crown of her career, taking top honors on vault at Denver (9.825). She tallied career highs on vault (9.875) and floor (9.825), and won her second vault crown of the season at Michigan. At the completion of the regular season, Davis was honored as an All-Big 12 selection on vault. She posted a 9.825 on vault at the 2009 NCAA Southeast Regional in Raleigh, N.C.

2008 • FRESHMAN SEASON

Davis moved from vault specialist in the first half of the season to a two-event competitor on vault and floor for the Huskers in the second half of 2008. Davis stepped into the No. 2 spot in the floor lineup and hit a career-best 9.80 on three occasions, while adding a career-high 9.875 on vault against Missouri on Jan. 25. At the Big 12 Championships, Davis placed 10th on vault (9.80) and added a 9.70 on floor. She was ranked seventh in the conference on vault and 14th in the South Central region.

BEFORE NEBRASKA

Davis competed for coaches Barry Hyder and Chris Conner at Capital Gymnastics. A Level 10 product, she was a three-year qualifier to Junior Olympic Nationals from 2004 to 2006. At the 2006 national meet, Davis took second on floor, third on vault and fifth on beam. In 2005, she tied for ninth on floor and vault. Davis chose Nebraska over an offer from Denver.

PERSONAL

Erin was born March 29, 1989, in Austin, Texas, and is the daughter of Michael and Simira Davis. A 2007 graduate of Stony Point High School in Round Rock, Texas, Davis was a member of the varsity cheerleading squad. Davis graduated in December of 2011 with a psychology degree.

2011 • SENIOR SEASON

Brittnee Habbib captured second-team All-America honors in her final season at Nebraska, while helping the Huskers to a fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Super Six. Habbib, a native of North York, Ontario, Canada, remained a valuable bars, beam and floor specialist for the Huskers. She capped her senior campaign by taking fifth on beam (9.775) for the Huskers at the 2011 NCAA Championships to earn All-America honors and help NU advance to the Super Six. Habbib also contributed a clutch performance on floor at the 2011 NCAA Championships. She posted a 9.80 in semifinal competition and received a seasonhigh 9.825 at the Super Six Team Finals after only competing on floor three other times during the course of the season. She totaled four event titles on the season, including one on bars and three on beam. Habbib recorded a career-high 9.85 on beam and 9.825 on floor as a senior. In addition, she posted a season-high score of 9.85 on bars. Habbib also led NU in the community and the classroom, earning secondteam academic All-Big 12 accolades, while earning a spot on the Big 12 Winter Community of Champions. She also claimed spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

BEFORE NEBRASKA

A senior high-performance gymnast, Habbib was a five-year member of the Canadian National Team with former Huskers Kylie Stone and Vanessa Meloche. Habbib was coached by former Olympic gold medalist Yelena Davydova and Ukrainian men’s all-around champion Valery Yahchybekov at Gemini Gymnastics. Habbib, who represented Canada at the 2006 World Championships, tied for fifth in the all-around and eighth on beam at the 2006 Canadian National Championships. She also helped the Canadian team to a third-place finish at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and notched a 15th-place all-around showing at the 2005 Pan Am Games. Habbib was the 2006 recipient of the African Canadian Achievement Award in the youth division, in addition to several outstanding international achievement honors. Habbib was also the 2007 Harry Jerome Recipient for Youth in Athletics award.

PERSONAL

Brittnee was born Nov. 16, 1988, in North York, Ontario. She is the daughter of Wayne and Lavern Habbib and has one brother, Dayne, and one sister, Monique. 2011 • SENIOR SEASON

Maria Scaffidi, who excelled on bars beam and floor for the Huskers, captured first-team All-America honors on bars at the 2011 NCAA Championships, while helping the Huskers to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Super Six Finals. Scaffidi posted an impressive 9.90 on bars at the NCAA Semifinals to tie for first, earning the first All-America honors of her career. She placed 10th on bars at the NCAA Event Finals, averaging a score of 9.825. She earned the first Big 12 event title of her career, posting a 9.90 on bars. She also earned All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades for her efforts at the conference championships. Scaffidi captured six event crowns on the season, including five on bars and one on floor. She boasted career highs of 9.925 on bars and 9.85 on beam, in addition to hitting a season-high 9.875 on floor as senior. In the classroom, Scaffidi claimed first-team academic All-Big 12 recognition, while earning spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.

2010 • JUNIOR SEASON

Scaffidi was a consistent all-around performer for the Huskers in 2010. She opened the season as if she hadn’t missed a beat, earning the second all-around title of her career, by posting a solid 39.00 and starring for the Huskers at Washington. She also took top honors on floor, tying her career-high mark of 9.875. She added a career-high allaround score of 39.30 at the Masters Classic on Feb. 28. In addition, Scaffidi hit a season-high 9.85 on bars at Penn State en route to winning the all-around title (39.275). At the 2010 Big 12 Championships she came in second in the allaround standings, with a total of 39.25 and earned a spot on the AllBig 12 Championship team for her efforts. She totaled six individual titles in 2010, including four in the all-around. Scaffidi hit career highs of 9.85 on vault, 9.85 on beam, 9.90 on floor and 39.30 in the allaround during her junior campaign. In addition, she was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall and Spring Honor Rolls and earned secondteam academic All-Big 12 accolades.

2009 • REDSHIRT SEASON

Scaffidi was unable to compete in 2009 due to an injury suffered in preseason training.

2008 • SOPHOMORE SEASON

Scaffidi emerged as a consistent all-around performer in her second year, opening 2008 with the first individual crown of her career with a 39.00 at Iowa State. Scaffidi was ranked eighth in the South Central regional standings on bars and ninth in the all-around. On the conference level, she was fifth on bars in the Big 12 and occupied the No. 7 spot in the all-around.

2007 • FRESHMAN SEASON

Scaffidi filled a number of roles for Nebraska in her freshman season, contributing as an all-arounder, a two- and three-event specialist and as a strong, dependable leadoff on every event. Scaffidi established herself early in 2007 as a four-event performer, scoring a 38.55 in the all-around in her third meet of the year at Missouri, in addition to a 9.825 on vault. It was in Nebraska’s final home meet against Kentucky that Scaffidi

shined the brightest for NU. She settled into her two-event specialist role with a third-place 9.875 on floor to achieve a season high, as well as a 9.80 on vault to finish fifth. In helping Nebraska to its ninth Super Six Finals appearance, Scaffidi capped her inaugural campaign with a 9.825 on vault, a 9.75 on bars and a 9.725 on floor.

BEFORE NEBRASKA

A former junior international elite gymnast, Scaffidi competed at LaFleur’s Gymnastics Academy under coaches Greg LaFleur and Tammy Donahue. In international competition at the 2000 Junior Pan American Championships in Curitiba, Brazil, Scaffidi led the U.S. team to a first-place finish, while also taking the individual all-around and beam crowns. On the national elite stage, Scaffidi finished 11th in the all-around at the 2000 U.S. Championships. The following year, she placed 16th in the all-around, 10th on vault and sixth on bars at the 2001 U.S. Championships. Scaffidi also took fifth-place honors on floor at the 2001 U.S. Classic and posted finishes of 11th in the all-around, eighth on vault and 11th on bars at the same meet. As a Level 10 competitor, Scaffidi took home a third-place finish on floor at the 2004 Junior Olympics National Championships. In 2006, she finished fourth on floor, fifth on vault, sixth on bars and 10th in the allaround.

Scaffidi was born April 6, 1988, in Sussex, Wis., and is the daughter of John and Sandra Scaffidi. A 2006 graduate of Arrowhead High School, Scaffidi graduated in December of 2011 with a degree in deaf or hard of hearing education.

2011 • SENIOR SEASON Maddie Steinauer earned second-team All-America honors on beam at the 2011 NCAA Championships to cap a solid Husker career. Her effort at nationals helped the Huskers advance to the NCAA Super Six Team Finals, where they finished fourth. A three-event specialist on vault, beam and floor, Steinauer posted career highs of 9.90 on beam and 9.875 on floor as a senior. She also tallied a season-high 9.875 on vault three times over the course of the season. Steinauer earned three beam titles on the year and was the lead-off performer on the event for Nebraska all season. She tallied a 9.85 for fourth place on floor at the 2011 Big 12 Championships, earning a spot on the All-Big 12 Championship Team. She earned first-team academic All-Big 12 honors and claimed a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll.

2010 • JUNIOR SEASON Steinauer started her Husker career as a solid contributor on vault, beam and floor in 2010. She hit career-high scores on all events, highlighted by a 9.90 performance on vault at the 2010 Big 12 Championships, giving her a share of the vault crown. She notched another individual title on vault at the Masters Classic. Steinauer performed well in her Husker debut, competing on vault (9.75), beam (9.775) and floor (9.675) for Nebraska. She posted a career-high 9.80 on beam against Oklahoma and TWU on Feb. 5. She tied her career-high score of 9.80 on beam at the IGI Chicago Style Invite on Feb. 12. Steinauer notched the first event title of her junior season at the Masters Classic, hitting a 9.85 on vault to tie for first in the event. On March 14 she kicked off NU’s vault lineup at Penn State with a solid 9.875. Steinauer added a Big 12 title to her list of accomplishments in 2010, tying for first on vault with a career-high 9.90. She was named to the All-Big 12 Championship Team. She posted a score of 9.875 on vault at the NCAA Lexington Regional on April 10. Steinauer was also named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Fall and Spring Honor Rolls.

PERSONAL Maddie was born on May 8, 1989, in Omaha, Neb. She is the daughter of Nick and Amy Steinauer and has two sisters, Elizabeth and Carly, and two brothers, Nick and Will. A 2007 graduate of Marian High School, she earned first honors all four years and was a member of the National Spanish Honor Society. She is a biology major at Nebraska.
