Q2 2014 Report
Welcome April, May and June were jam-packed with activity for the SpunOut.ie team. In early April we launched three positive mental health projects including a book ‘The SpunOut.ie Survival Guide’, a mobile app ‘MiYo’, and an animation series called ‘Ditch the Monkey’. We had such fun making these useful resources and as you can see later on in the report - they’ve definitely made an impact to the lives of our readers. We’ve been very busy these past three months, so read on for more info about our voter information campaign, our festival appearance and all the lovely people who joined us for work experience and internships this quarter. Ian Power, Executive Director.

Ditch The Monkey
P R OJ ECT
Ditch The Monkey is a series of five animated shorts, released online and in cinemas on April 2nd. The series was produced by SpunOut.ie in collaboration with Irish animator Eoin Duffy and the National Office for Suicide Prevention. The series is loosely based on the ‘five ways to wellness’, a set of evidence based actions which promote positive mental health. Often, our own negative thoughts hold us back from being happy and healthy. By choosing to get out into the world, to connect, to contribute, to be healthy, to accept ourselves and to be aware - we can stay on the path to wellness.

People “Since April, we’ve had a new full timer join the team, as well as a number of awesome volunteers.” Alan O’Mara In May we welcomed Alan O’Mara to the team as Communications and Fundraising Officer. Alan holds a BA Honours in Journalism from D.I.T. and his previous role was the National Social Media Co-ordinator with the GAA where he oversaw a 1400% increase in social media referral traffic to the GAA website (so we have very high expectations). In his spare time Alan plays GAA football, he has played in goal for his county team, Cavan. He also likes to relax watching TV series like House of Cards and Sherlock so he will fit right in with the team.
