QQ Digest My mother has tried her hand at several careers, some even concurrently. Imagine the surprise of both a hospital patient and my mom when the patient awoke after surgery and, upon seeing who her nurse’s aide was, yelled, "What are you doing? You’re the woman who helped me pick out interior paint colors!"

Multitasking and Training your Brain to Focus Multitasking is the ability to handle more than one task at the same time. We pride ourselves in our ability to multitask at all times, as it helps us check more things off our to-do-list. We however fail to realize that when we multi-task, we are more prone to make mistakes, miss important information, get easily distracted and are less likely to retain information. This actually creates more problems as we find ourselves revisiting tasks that have seemingly been completed. When presented with so much information, the brain is forced to refocus continuously as one switches between tasks, and although the brain is complex, it is not capable of multitasking well. It will rather choose which task is more important and will begin to place priorities on each activity. By the time it has settled enough to function properly, we switch to another task. The brain is forced to adjust to the new task. The good thing is that by learning to focus, we can avoid distractions and become more focused and productive. Some ways to improve focus include:
Lose the sense of urgency- Having a sense of urgency is counter-productive and will not bring out the best result.
Carve out time to focus on a task. Focus destroys the mind set of “too much to do” and makes you actually take the first and most difficult step in the task.
Concentration and selective attention- Focusing on one task at a time enables your mind rewire itself and complete the task at hand.
Do one important thing per time. “Don’t mistake activity for achievement”- John wooden
Be smart with your time
Develop interest in your tasks- It makes concentrating very easy.
