The Motorcycle is an energy that unites man with a set of 2 wheels. As a motorcycle designer, I find passion in embodying this energy into an aesthetic functional form. Š Sreejith Krishnan Kunjappan

Hello, I am Sreejith Krishnan Kunjappan and I am an ardent transportation designer. My total work experience is of 8.5 years in the automotive industry, which is divided into 2 parts separated by my Post Graduation course. The 1st part includes 4.5 years of design engineering on CATIA V5. After finishing my post graduation in transportation design (November 2014 - March 2016), I started my design career as a freelancer. I am a natural born artist and I have always relished sharing my artwork with the audience. Designing motorcycles has always been a great passion for me, just like riding them. The very basic nature of this profession which follows no rules or pre-decided path to reach the end result is what drives me. So far, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of motorcycle/two-wheeler design projects and each one of those projects has been fueling my passion for this domain. I welcome you to my portfolio put together exclusively for motorcycle design. I hope you enjoy going through my work and I look forward to hearing from you to discuss potential opportunities to collaborate. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Project Overview: This was one of the projects I had opportunity to work on when I was part of the design team at Desmania Design, from March 2018 – July 2018. The KTM Dukes were really popular in the Indian market because of their high value for money, and people use them for many purposes ranging from regular commuting to adventure touring. This was Desmania Design’s solution to address the needs of the adventure motorcycling enthusiasts in the Indian market, who customize their stock KTM Dukes (200/390) to make them more ‘adventure’ looking.

INSPIRATION

The source of inspiration was the alligator since it lives in swamps and forests – The perfect environment for the ‘Adventure’ Duke

FINAL PRODUCT

<

Desmania Design’s prototype engineers created these prototypes out of FRP which were then tested in real world conditions by the studio’s in-house test riders

Project Overview: Cruiser motorcycles have always been a favorite among Indians. There are a lot of motorcycles to choose from when it comes to IC engined options. But when it comes to electric motorcycles, there are currently none available in the form of a cruiser. This is my idea of the ‘next’ Ather product – a comfortable cruiser motorcycle suitable for daily commute as well as weekend trips.

ELECTRIC TWO-WHEELERS

IC ENGINED CRUISER MOTORCYCLES

TWO-WHEELERS IN THE INDIAN MARKET

Currently there are lot of choices for IC-engined cruiser motorcycles, but no electric bike in the form of a cruiser

Founded in 2013, Ather Energy is one of the top companies in electric two wheeler business in India. Two electric scooters are on offer currently, in the form of the 450 and the 450X.

INSPIRATION Sharks are known to migrate thousands of miles in the deep oceans. In other words, they ‘cruise’, they make long journeys. The idea of an electric cruiser motorcycle is inspired from the shark – capable of making long journeys, sharp design and silent.

PHONE DOCK

The display screen on the ‘tank’ is also a phone dock. Has built in wireless charger for the mobile phone. Once the phone is docked inside, it’s screen is mirrored on the screen on the bike, thereby allowing the user to access many of the phone’s functions without taking it out – check the map, see who is calling, check messages and even reply to them after stopping the bike. © Sreejith Krishnan Kunjappan

Project Overview: The KTM 790 Duke is one of the most sensational motorcycles produced by the brand. Dubbed the ‘Scalpel’, its design is sharp and aggressive. KTM has presence in most of the segments but a café racer from the brand has been non existent. Café Racers, have mostly been ‘traditional’ in terms of design, from round headlights and retro fuel tank to hemispherical pillion seat cowl. The thought of a KTM Café Racer – something that follows their design language and packaged in the form a café racer excited me and that is how this project was developed.

TRADITIONAL CAFÉ RACER DESIGN Main mass of the body does not extend beyond the wheel centers

Shown here is the Triumph Thruxton R, a motorcycle having traditional café racer design elements such as low seat height, rearward positioned rider’s seat, rear seat cowl, clip-on handlebars, windshield, etc.

Side view is characterized by a horizontal line that runs from front to back, along the bottom edge of the half fairing, tank, seat and tail piece

Different areas of the motorcycle making parallel lines is a common design cue traditionally followed in café racer design. © Sreejith Krishnan Kunjappan

INSPIRATION

KATAR The katar or katara is a type of push dagger from the Indian subcontinent, characterized by its H-shaped horizontal hand grip which results in the blade sitting above the user's knuckles. The basic katar has a short, wide, triangular blade. Its peculiarity lies in the handle which is made up of two parallel bars connected by two or more crosspieces, which forms the handle. The typical katar is a deadly double edged weapon able to pierce through body armor.

Š Sreejith Krishnan Kunjappan

IDEATION

The katar is thrust forward into the opponent’s body to attack. I’m trying to recreate the same emotion by having plastic panels covering either sides of the tank, just like a katar held in each hand of the warrior in action.
