Benefits Of Dance For Children
Dance is a great way for anyone to keep their body active and mind fresh. And children stand to benefit as much as adults—if not more—from learning how to move their feet. There’s no need to become a pro either, just the simple act of picking up the basic steps and getting out on the dance floor can create a long-lasting and positive impact on a child as they develop in the years to come.
Better health and fitness
Like any other exercise, dance helps the body stay fit and healthy. And because children are still developing, dancing is a safe way for them to burn off energy and stay healthy. There’s no impact and injury like sports and it’s active without being exhausting. And the same things a child gains from sports, they can get from dancing: better coordination, flexibility, stamina, range of motion and balance. But the best thing is that it motivates children to continue exercising.
Discipline and education
Learning a dance routine challenges children to practice memorizing coordinated movements, which lays the groundwork for skills learned later in life, whether that be for future dancing, competitive sports or simply learning new tasks that take physical coordination. With the right environment, it’s the perfect mixture of fun and discipline.
Socialization Unless you’re a very solitary person, most dancing takes place with multiple people. Because it’s naturally a group activity, dance can help a child to grow better communication and social skills. During a dance class, kids are asked to converse and collaborate as a group and as pairs. This allows an opportunity for shy children to talk to their classmates and make new friends. Dance is a performance that helps a child with a fear of performing on the stage or speaking in front of a huge crowd, something that would make most adults envious.
Building self – esteem
Developing a new talent is an excellent way for anyone to build confidence. Perfecting choreography or just staying in rhythm puts a child in charge of their body. They can feel confident in their new skill and the work they put in to achieve it. At the Srilankan Traditional Dance Academy, teachers understand how difficult it can be to learn to dance and make sure to always offer encouragement and create a positive environment in the classroom.
Self-expression The emphasis on self-expression makes dance different from other types of physical activity. It provides kids the liberty to express their emotions in a way that is crafted. Their dance will be something unique to them that they can be proud of. In the end, it’s a creative part of them, they can communicate just by moving.
