The Sri Lanka foundation, a renowned non-profit organization was founded in 2003 by Sri Lankan-American physician, Walter Jayasinghe. Since its inception, the Sri Lanka Foundation has organized many events and festivals to educate people across the globe on Sri Lankan culture and achievements. The aim of this non-profit organization is to educate the world about Sri Lanka and the achievements of its people.
Every year, Sri Lanka Foundation hosts a number of events to bring Sri Lanka expatriates together. SLF acts like a bridge linking people, cultures, and races together, bringing everyone to common ground. SLF events provide a setting to people from Sri Lanka to showcase their talent and attain recognition worldwide.
Sri Lankan Community – Events The Sri Lanka Day Expo, an important event held every year to showcase and promote Sri Lankan business, food, musicians and dancers. This popular event draws the attention of thousands of people across the world to experience the culture of Sri Lanka. The major attraction of this expo is Perahera, a cultural parade.
Every other year, the Sri Lanka Foundation Awards ceremony is held to recognize and honor deserving members of the Sri Lankan expatriate community for work in their respective fields. The World Youth Conference (The Young Expatriate Sri Lankans) is organized by SLF for young people to connect with others, learn about Sri Lankan culture, and develop plans for how they can help Sri Lanka grow. The Fashion Show and beauty pageant is also a popular event by SLF held to showcase the ethnic beauty of Sri Lanka to the US mainstream.
Performing Art center
In addition, the Sri Lanka Foundation supports in learning Sri Lankan music, art, language and folk dance through its performing art center. The PAC programs include beginner child dance class, beginner drumming class and beginner dance class. All classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced level are taught by expert and experienced professionals. And children who want to learn the mother tongue of Sri Lanka can join Sinhalese language classes. Theatre or stage drama classes will also soon be the part of the Performing Art Center program.
