Growth In today’s world where tools and technologies are accessible to everyone, the key differentiators are the hiring processes and the employee retention efforts. Consequently, HR is set to grown in prominence.
THE BAD Looked down upon In a class full of B-school students it is difficult to find even a handful interested to make HR their choice of career. The profession, though important, is considered to be an easy career choice. Obligatory Hiring Nepotism, political and other obligations, rather than pure merit, have become reasons for hiring Caught in compliance That compliance to a standard is the minimum expected and that more innovation can be brought into the profession is not realized. THE UGLY Rejection Handing over the pink slip and recommending someone for a layoff is a miserable job. Equally worse or more is having to perform the task of workforce downsizing in the name of cost cutting. Motives The driving force behind actions taken seems to be to solely increase value of company stock. In this pursuit, there are several cases of compromised values and morals. Gender Diversity Quite surprisingly, in contrast to that of other professions, gender diversity is tilted more towards women. Pay The pay is not in line with pay for professions in the same league.
