BIBLIOTHÈQUE Academic Project | Individual |1 month | 2018 Site : Panjab University, Sector 14, Chandigarh (IN) Design - Studio Project Mentor : Ar. Priya Gupta
The campus of Panjab University is a close-knit, unified cluster of exposed brick and concrete buildings (star ingredients of Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh) intertwined with pedestrian pathways and green open spaces providing a unique environment for students to live and study. The design brief demanded a library for the university campus that shall cater to disciplines of law, arts, engineering and business. The concept of the project mainly revolved around the study of framed structures and their functionality, experimenting with a 5m x 5m RCC grid (36 squares) to carry out services, functional spaces, and overlooking gardens or balconies together.

Library design project focusses on creating a space that not only houses books but also serves as a dynamic hub for knowledge, collaboration, and community interaction. It incorporates movable furniture, modular shelving, and multifunctional spaces that allow the library to cater to a wide range of needs, from quiet study sessions to collaborative group work.

Hence, a grid of 36 squares, 5m x 5m each was chosen. The inspiration for this design project was a Rubix cube. The motivation was to keep the design as modular as possible. Hence, almost all the area requirements were carved out in the multiples of 5. Area program was divided as follows : Faculty of business, administrative and standard facilities of a library like printing room, librarian office etc. were provided on the ground/ main floor Faculty of law - first floor Faculty of arts - second floor Faculty of engineering - third floor

KETLIWALA KIOSK DESIGN Built on site | Practical project | 2 months | 2019 Site : Elante Mall, Chandigarh (IN) Design firm : The Elements Partners : Ar. Anant Mann & Ar. Siddhartha Wig
Ketliwala provides refreshment services to visitors in Elante Mall, Chandigarh (IN). The client for this kiosk design project wanted to re-create the rustic ambience of an “Indian chai tapri” (tea stall). They wanted the design to be simple and appealing. As Architectural Intern (during 7th Semester), I studied logistics behind the design of a kiosk, its structure and services. My major role was to work on the abstraction and development of design, along with preparation of its construction drawings and coordination on site. Workshop visits were frequent to check assembly and development of the kiosk structure. Special focus was given on joinery, finishes and appearance of the kiosk as it had to engage with primary stakeholders (service providers and customers) in the hospitality realm. RESOURCE EFFECTIVE RURAL SCHOOL Academic Project | Individual | 10th Semester | 2021 Site : Village Kutlupur, Jalandhar, Punjab (IN) B.Arch Thesis Project Mentor : Ar. Priya Gupta
Many rural schools often reflect an unkept, dilapidated image, that may not be healthy or inviting. Dimly lit classrooms, broken benches, plaster flaking, foul-smelling washrooms, besides the questionable mid-day meals and dilemma of a teacher as to what she should teach a class of students on different academic levels. Resulting from the issue of unkept, dilapidated rural govt. schools offering limited educational infrastructure, the thesis aims at investigating an alternate approach to school campus design. Hence, the thesis attempts to create a school campus where children can learn and grow in enhanced learning environments (indoor and outdoor) shifting from the mainstream instruction-based learning to interaction based one, designed through a low-cost approach. An architecture programme which provides infrastructure that fits well in the govt’s budget, and leaves funds for quality education programme. This aids the govt. to spend less on construction and more on quality of education. The thesis aims at re-igniting the sensitivity towards locally-sourced tradtional materials for building construction purposes and proposes a campus model to improve the broken and under-maintained condition of rural school buildings.

MINI SECRETARIAT Consultancy Project | 3 months | 2021 Site : Abohar, Rajasthan (IN) Associate : Ar. Deepanshu Garg
The Mini Secretariat is a Government complex designed for the Municipal Corporation of Abohar, Rajasthan (IN). The complex has been mapped out using passive design strategies. The building holds together various departments of the local administration and facilities that have been spread organically all over the city. The project is a step towards providing a one-stop government platform to the local public. As Junior Architect in the duo, my major role was to work on the details, working drawings and building envelope design. Under the guidance of my senior, I evolved the design of the building block by dividing given facilities into two buildings - a four storey building for Administrative Departments and a state of the art, single storey Town Hall building.
18
ABOUT THE SITE Location : Old Water Works campus, Abohar, Punjab. About 1.5 km from Tehsil Complex, Abohar. Access : via Abohar road (main road) & Waterworks road (secondary road) The local steppe type site has a natural, gradual slope towards top left corner of the complex. The proposed complex will consist of East-West oriented, state-of-the-art Town-hall building and Mini Secretariat building which uses building offset, boundary platation and plantation as noise buffers.

COMMERCIAL I.T. BUILDINGS Practical projects | Work experience | 6 months | 2022 Projects : Seasia & Allengers Design firm : Planners Group Partner : Ar. Vikram Malik
As Graduate Architect, I was responsible for the planning, designing and interiors of the two mentioned projects : Seasia & Allengers. Both are commercial, I.T. buildings and my major role was to prepare design layouts, 3D visualizations and plans which incorporate structural, technical, conceptual and aesthetical aspects for the same. My learning included the understanding of building materials, core & shell structure design, layout of services, staircase details and the elevational aesthestics of the shell of the structure. Along with these projects, to broaden my acumen, I was also exposed to work on residential as well educational projects during my time at the firm.

RAI RESIDENCE INTERIORS Practical project | Work experience | 7 months | 2023 Role : Architect Design firm : The Vaastu Consultants Principal Architect : Ar. Harish Saini
A classical, modern home for a family of 5 members, based in the Pleasanton city of California, the Rai residence is a luxurious home with interiors that remind of the culturally rich Rajasthani havelies in India. The team at Vaastu Consultants was mainly responsible for the interior design of the building. The entire building of the residence was designed by a local architecture firm, Louie Leu Architect Inc. My role as Architect required me to develop architectural drawings for the interior design concepts, their working drawings and technical charts for cost modules; being actively involved with material and product selection. The experience at Vaastu Consultants broadened my knowledge of interior design and helped me flourish my skill for detailed work.
