MIU MIU

Miu Miu focuses wholly on their unique female designs that feature an ironic air. Boundaries between elegant and trashy are ignored, resulting in a beautiful chic expression with an aesthetic that’s covered in a hint of humour.

Miu Miu is a brand from the Prada Group. Introduced by Miuccia Prada in 1992, Miu Miu was inspired by Miuccia’s personal wardrobe and named after her family nickname. With an independent identity from Prada, the brand has grown into one of the leading high fashion labels in the world. The store has boutiques world wide including China, the US and Europe and has international spokesmodels and actresses in Katie Holmes, Ginta Lapina, Zhous Xun, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst and Hailee Steinfeld.

The brand has separated itself from Prada by moving Miu Miu’s headquarters away from Prada’s in Milan. Unlike them, Miu Miu has staged fashion shows worldwide in Milan, New York, London and finally settling in Paris in 2006. Since then Miu Miu has taken inspiration from the city’s magnificent sets, using them as a background to the labels experimentation. The Prada group successfully repositioned Miu Miu as a prominent high fashion brand known for its avantgarde, provocative style. With clothes that feature painstaking attention to detail and quality, the designs evoke a sense of freedom in a classic style for the luxury Italian label.

Continuing the dark mood seen in the autumn/winter 2012/13 Miu Miu collection, the Italian fashion house updated the vamp look with paint-splash flower prints, latex material and oversized furs. Miuccia Prada opened the Miu Miu show with a selection of loose-fitting, denim-like pencil skirts with matching wide, angular jackets in a basic metallic navy palette. The outfits were lightened with off-white, loose-fitting bralet tops. Monochrome fur stoles were gradually introduced into the collection in a variety of patterns, while dark navy fur coats slipped onto the runway almost unnoticed as they were camouflaged by the matching clothing. Sporadic paint-splash prints adorned loose-fitting midi skirts and casual cropped-sleeve sweaters. As the show gained momentum the fur stoles became more vibrant and flamboyant, alongside loose latex pieces in neutral greige and rosy pink. For a modern, ladylike look, long-line latex jackets were matched with simple above-theknee dresses in neutral colours. To bring the show to a close, varying shades of red joined the runway, from mid-toned fur jackets to scarlet latex mid-length skirts. Playing on the paint splatter trend, Miu Miu’s models showcased calf-length masculine jackets with a single button at the neckline for an alternative take on loose, open outerwear.

A warm, cosy coat at that. More and more, designers are putting clothes on the catwalk that tally with the season in which they land in-store. i.e. February; i.e. winter. A-lined, with huge glossy buttons and generous patch pockets they came, one after the other in various pastel colour blocked combinations and a host of fabrications, from cady to suede to python, to the warmest and most luxurious mink versions in hues of sea foam turquoise, poppy red, and palest violet.

This was a collection where pastels jived with brights. In fact, colours were so imaginatively clashed it had a got-dressed-in-the-dark feeling about it - in a good way - and that neatly chimed with the trippy mood Miuccia Prada had going on this afternoon, a point she hammered home via towering platforms, school-girl tights, and retro prints placed on pockets or repeated over long-sleeved silky day dresses. Her print catalogue was far ranging: a plump goldfish leaping out of a bowl, a cartoonish cat’s face, a stylised parrot and long stemmed florals that had a whiff of Art Nouveau about them. All of which, it turns out, were transferred onto wallpaper to plaster the walls of her show venue. The wonderful world of Miu Miu is a fun place to inhabit, even the chairs are novel. Show goers were seated on pyramid sponge that looked like sound proofing, wooden garden chairs were done up in flocked upholstery, there were lounge-y beds of blue velvet and benches were hand painted in florals.

This season felt like a greatest hits of Prada. It looked like a stroppy younger sister had spent an afternoon raiding her big sister’s bedroom, rummaging in her Prada wardrobe and pulling out all her favourites and remixing them with her own bits and pieces. The shiny satin pencil skirts, the glossy red leather, the silky bed coats that looked like they were made from an eiderdown (a beautiful one nonetheless), raw-edged plaid bra tops - in the heat of her fury, this younger sister probably took a pair of scissors to those pieces and started hacking away with glee. The Baltimore-born director, John Waters was referenced. He began making films in the Sixties and he screened them in church halls (another reason for those sacred arches perhaps) to audiences who had heard about them word of mouth. There will be nothing word of mouth about this collection. It was a scream it from the rooftops kind of a hit.

FIRST, those shoes: David Bowie-style platforms crafted from a lightning bolt patchwork of Python and metallics were about as high as the silver and gold-foiled enclaves that models walked between. On the other end of the height spectrum; the ballet pump. It’s back. Neat blush pink silk ballet pumps with sweet little bow tie. These girls were a sinister bunch; with hair centre parted and divided into pig tails and lips painted a blue running to deepest red ombré. It’s this dark and suspect undercurrent that makes the Miu Miu mashup so appealing. Whose wardrobe had she been rifling through this time? Perhaps her mother’s or an older sister’s but it never gets too trad when she pops a tiara on her head (set to become the hair accoutrement of Spring 2016). Ruffled sheer organza bed jackets, robes and nighties were layered on top of checked midi length pencil skirts, gingham shirts and knitted tank tops. Maybe they had secretly been out all day and night and threw a nightie on top for it to look like they had spent all evening at home, or maybe it’s a veil that disguises what really lies beneath - she’s always up to something. Coats were also a big theme - oversized mannish duster styles boasted stripy sporty collars, geo intarsia or a recurring argyle diamond motif, while colourful fox fur scarves fastened diagonally across the torso and raccoon tail charms dangled off the side. Miu Miu girls will find lots to get excited about.

With a room packed full of jaded, spent showgoers, it felt pretty good to be whisked off to the beach via Miu Miu, the last show of the season. Mrs. Prada was in holiday mode, and yes, it was head to toe glamorous but charmingly, it felt more beside-the-seaside than Côte d’Azur. Proceedings were sweetly retro, Sixties-tinged, with rubber swimming hats that fastened under the chin, and were decorated in all manner of pretty petal appliquÊ. Models strode out in halter-neck frillybottomed smocked body suits, bloomers, and deckchairstriped trouser suits, belted high on the waist. Retro-printed skirts looked like beach towels, the way they crossed over and wrapped around the waist as though she had just emerged from water; tie-belted coats had all the ease of a bathrobe even though some were rendered in plush Rex rabbit, while other styles arrived in glossy swimming pool blue and appeared to be splash proof. The hit rebel ballet pump of last season was reworked into a plimsoll version; buy early to avoid disappointment.

OUTFIT The whole outfit is inspired by Miu Miu different spring summer collection HAIRSTYLE Double buns have officially taken over as the trendiest cool girl hairstyle of the season. It’s only fitting, considering how many other late 90’s/early 2000’s trends are considered stylish again. Double buns are also known as space buns, and they always make me think of my childhood obsession with the Spice Girls. They’re cute, fun, unique, and easy to do .

BOOTS Miu Miu always focuses more on comfortable footwear. In most of Miu Miu collection socks along with boots Hence this look is inspired by Miu Miu collection. BAGS Bag is also inspired from MIu MIu collection. In most ofher collection she used this kind of bag.
