COMMUNITY WELFARE CENTER- With the support of BHARATH PETROLEUM CORPORATION LIMITED A new building was inaugurated in 2016 with the support of BPCL. All the medical and educational services are conducted here; a 6 KVA Solar unit ensures continuous power supply for all these services. This Rural Seva, is going on silently. But more work is to be done. We believe that this work of Swamiji will go on with the support from noble minded and compassionate hearts. Once reeling under poverty, ignorance and lacking in opportunities, this Meyyur village is now progressing in education, healthcare, etc. By the grace of the Holy trinity and the dedicated seva of the volunteers we shall strive to set an example to other villages to emulate. SARADAMMA GRAMA MANGALAM – Center for women Empowerment In November 2014, a unit ‘Saradamma Grama Mangalam’ was started and in 5 years, over 125 rural women have got the expertise in sewing; 40 sewing machines have been given for their use. They were given an opportunity to stitch school uniforms which generated a good revenue for them. Elderly ladies have been trained to make Agarbathis and Sambrani. Every day more than 50 widows and deserving villagers are served food.

Sri Ramakrishna Math Medical and Rural Welfare Centre, Meyyur, Thiruvallur (BPCL SUPPORTED) BRIEF REPORT As Swami Vivekananda wanted the upliftment of rural India, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is devotedly rendering Rural Medical Service for the last 35 years. As part of the 150th birthday celebration of Swamiji, Ramakrishna Math, Chennai adopted Meyyur village which is 50 km away from Chennai. A Community Hall has been built in the village which serves as the centre for all service activities. SALIENT FEATURES OF THIS SERVICE: MEDICAL v Free medical service is given on all days. As the nearest medical facility is 15 km away, all the poor patients from 14 villages avail our service, v Special camps for Eye, Dental, Paediatric, Ortho, Asthma, Diabetes, and tests like ECG, ECHO are also done periodically, v Mammogram, Popsmear test for Cancer is done periodically, v Free food and medicines are given to all the patients, v During natural calamities like floods, Covid Pandemic, etc., villagers are provided all their daily requirements. EDUCATION Students living in these villages attend the free tuition coaching arranged by Math. Over 100 Students are attending daily. Special subjects are taught to them by experts through online classess. Computer classes and English learning are also offered. As photo copying facility is 15 km away, the centre is provided with a Xerox machine, thus benefitting the entire
village. Assistance from staff and students of IIT has given these students a big exposure to higher education. Under ‘Saradamma Bala Mandir’ students are thought value education, bhajans, chanting and other cultural practices during Sunday class and Summer holiday classes. Over 60 students participate in these camps. As children of Gurupuram and Vembedu have no transport facility to reach their school, vehicles are arranged for them in association with their school. Some students are also given cycles to reach the school in time. Books, School Uniform and Stationery items are given free to these students. CULTURAL Our Math has renovated temples in Gurupuram and Vembedu and arranged regular worship in them. All the people in this village participate in celebrating Navaratri (Durga Pooja) for 9 days, Pongal festival, and Swami Vivekananda Jayanti. Their involvement in these celebrations has brought in a healthy interaction and harmony among them. At the shrine in Meyyur Community Centre, over 90 students and 20 adults attend evening arati. Jayantis of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and Swami Ramakrishnananda Maharaj are celebrated with great devotion and food Prasad is given to all.
