Benediction Educate your women first and leave them to themselves; they will tell you what reforms are necessary for them. –SWAMI VIVEKANANDA
Man-making in our system of education means making a man grow to perfection by developing the whole of his personality. Education involves not just imparting academics but also culture, life skills, spirituality etc. It brings out the best in students, makes them earn their livelihood, and become good citizens of the country. Not only the students but teachers and others involved in this great service also benefit from this education. With this view in mind, Sri Ramakrishna Math Vivekananda Centenary Girls’ Higher Secondary School was started and it is striving towards overall development of the students. The latest advancements in teaching resources and techniques are being adopted. The Teachers are striving to get better results year after year. I congratulate all the Teachers for ably bringing out the best of talents in the students. I hope in this academic year there will be a fresh flow of strength and energy in the students as well as the teachers. I have faith that the students will create new records in the academic history of the School. On this auspicious occasion of the beginning of the new academic year 2019-2020, I invoke the blessings of Sri Ramakrishna, The Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swamiji and that of Swami Ramakrishnanandaji, the founder of the school, on the students and the teachers, parents and wellwishers who help us in running the institution successfully.

“We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.” —Swami Vivekananda I heartily welcome all the teachers, non-teaching staff and my dear students, at the beginning of this academic year 2019-20. Our school has secured excellent results in the Public Exams conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board, for the academic year 2018-19. Our students have made us proud with these results. We have upgraded the existing best infrastructure facilities already in place, which includes state of the art STEM lab etc. We are conducting value addition programs to build a healthy community of students and teachers. The introduction of extra-curricular activities like Yoga, Martial Art Silambam, Spoken English etc. is to improve the lifestyle of children thus giving them a holistic development approach. All this excellence in academic activities and extra- curricular activities becomes possible only because of dedicated and highly motivated team of teachers in our school. Indian Culture is held high in importance and is the prime focus of inculcation to the children with not just the best of academic education. Through dedicated Value Education classes, we are sure that there will be a positive impact on their character and strength of mind. We have also extended network of supporters from various resources who have joined hands to offer additional help to our children. I wish, our students shall get all the best things in their life on par with any other children in the society. I fervently pray to Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda to continue to shower THEIR choicest blessings on our Teachers, Non-Teaching staff, Students, Parents and all our well wishers, to live a healthy and happy life.

Guru Purnima is a tradition dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. Many Hindus celebrate the day in honour of the great sage Vyasa, who was born on this day. The celebration is marked by spiritual activities and includes a ritualistic event in honour of the Guru, Guru Pooja. The word Guru is derived from two words, gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore, a Guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers as well as remembering past teachers and scholars. In the yogic tradition, the day is celebrated as the occasion when Shiva became the first Guru, as he began the transmission of yoga to the Saptarishis.

SISTER NIVEDITA LIFE HISTORY
56
•
Sister Nivedita is an ardent Irish disciple of Swami Vivekananda. Sister Nivedita, a lovely child named Margaret Noble of Samuel Noble and Mary Hamilton, was born on October 28, 1867 in Ireland.
•
25th March 1898 was the holiest and most unforgettable day in the life of Margaret. Swamiji initiated her ceremonially into the order of celibacy. He gave her the name of “Nivedta” which means ‘The Dedicated One’.
•
Motivated by Swamiji, Margaret started sailing to India. She reached Calcutta on January 28, 1898. Swami Vivekananda came in person to the port to give an affectionate welcome to her.
•
Swami Vivekananda wrote in his letter to her as “Let me tell you frankly that I am now convinced that you have a great future in the work for India. What was wanted was not a man, but a woman; a real lioness, to work for the Indians, women specially. Your education, sincerity, purity, immense love, determination and above all the Celtic blood make you just the woman wanted.”
•
In November 1898, she opened a girls’ school in the Bagbazar area of Calcutta. It was inaugurated by The Holy Mother Herself with Her divine blessings and in the presence of Swami Vivekananda.
•
During the devastating plague in Calcutta in 1899, Nivedita nursed and took care of the patients, cleaned rubbish from the area, and inspired and motivated many youths to render voluntary service.
•
Sister Nivedita had acquired deep reverence for Indian Culture from his Guru Swami Vivekananda.
•
Like the master, she also went on a whirlwind tour of the United States and addressed huge gatherings in all the principal towns and cities in order to educate the Americans about the real state of India.
•
She was the source of inspiration and support for many great people like Dr. Jagadish Chandra Bose, the Indian scientist and philosopher for whom she raised funds for promoting his research. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose in his famous Institute for research, in Nivedita’s memory got installed the image of a woman stepping forward, lamp in hand.
•
Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar, the famous Tamil Poet started his work towards women empowerment and their freedom after being inspired by Sister Nivedita.
USA based IEEE has proved that the pioneer of wireless communication was Professor Jagdish Chandra Bose and not Marconi.
•
She opposed the British Rule against India and relentlessly participated by all means in the Indian Freedom Movement. Eminent political leaders like Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Bipin Chandra Pal, C.R.Das and others were some of her admirers and friends. She influenced Sri Aurobindo in leading the Nationalist Movement in Bengal. Her revolutionary instincts are revealed in her intimate association with the freedom fighters of India like Sri Aurobindo, Bagha Jatin, Hemachandra Ghosh and others.
•
She was later hailed by Dr.Rabindranath Tagore as “Mother of the Indian People”.
•
The greatest of the Nation’s leaders, Balagangadhar Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi, came to her and paid their respects.
•
Nivedita designed the national flag of India with the thunderbolt as the emblem against a red background. This later became the symbol of the highest gallantry award of Independent India – the Param Vir Chakra.
•
Nivedita’s life was thus a real saga of service and sacrifice, of achievement and fulfilment.
•
Nivedita had close and cordial relationship with the brother disciples of Swami Vivekananda like Swami Brahmananda, Swami Premananda and Swami Saradananda, who helped her in her charitable and educational activities in all possible ways; She was also very close to the Holy Mother Sarada Devi who accepted her as her own daughter, lovingly called her “Khuki” [meaning ‘little girl’ in Bengali).
•
She left her body on 13 October 1911 in Darjeeling. Her epitaph reads, “Here lies Sister Nivedita who gave her all to India”.
Teachings of Sister Nivedita:
“I love India as the birthplace of the highest and best of all religions, as the country that has the grandest mountains, the Himalayas the country where the homes are simple, where domestic happiness is most to be found, and where the women unselfishly unobtrusively, ungrudgingly serve the dear ones from early morning to dewy eye.” “Selfless Man is the Thunderbolt. Let us strive only for selflessness, and we become the weapon in the hands of the gods. Not for us to ask how. Not for us to plan methods. For us, it is only to lay ourselves down at the altar-foot.”
