CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated the Vivekananda Cultural Centre located in the Vivekananda House campus off Marina Beach, built at a cost of `3 crore by Sri Ramakrishna Math. The Centre has been built on area of 8,000 sqft. The Vivekananda Cultural Centre will be an ‘Academy for Human Excellence’ to train participants in achieving excellence through value assimilation and in adopting healthy, holistic and culturally enriched lifestyles. The Centre proposes to conduct programmes like personality development courses, youth empowerment and workshops for professionals, seminars, non-formal research, language studies, cultural studies, cultural enrichment and socio-economic development. This was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on Tuesday. Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, founded by Swami Vivekananda, has been in service and spiritual activities for a long time. Considering the social, spiritual and cultural activities of this Mutt, the Chief Minister accepted the request of the math to give the place which houses Vivekananda House and the land adjacent to it on a 99-year lease. She had laid the foundation stone for this centre on February 27, while inaugurating the 150th birth centenary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda and sanctioned `2 crore towards raising the centre. The CM also announced that research and education centres in the name of Swami Vivekananda would be set up at Madras University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Bharathiyar University, Bharathidasan University, Mother Teresa Women’s University, Alagappa University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Periyar University and Alagappa University.
