The Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness Serving the Manatee & Sarasota Community

Who We Are Our mission is to prevent and reduce homelessness, promote community awareness about homelessness and advocate on behalf of homeless people and their service providers. We partner with over 100 community agencies and individuals, including advocacy groups, service providers, foundations, government agencies and homeless and formerly homeless people to identify the needs of homeless individuals and families, assess the availability and accessibility of existing services, identify gaps in services as well as additional opportunities and resources to meet the housing and service needs of homeless people.

What We Do ◊ Create a system of services resulting in family self-sufficiency

◊ Identify best practice approaches to sheltering homeless people ◊ Develop initiatives to address gaps in services

◊ Provide public education and advocate for progressive homeless policy

◊ Secure grants on behalf of provider agencies that help homeless people

The Face of Homelessness in Manatee and Sarasota ◊ 78% said they had lived in our community for a year or longer

◊ 67% were homeless because of unemployment or insufficient income

◊ 45% had been homeless for more than a year, an increase of 10% from 2008 ◊ 37% indicated they had one or more disabling conditions ◊ 33% reported they were homeless for the first time

◊ 23% indicated they were or had been a victim of domestic violence ◊ 12% reported they were veterans ◊

8% indicated they had been a foster child at some point in time

Living Homeless in Manatee and Sarasota 2010 # of people receiving homeless or prevention services: 23,313 individuals (of whom 7,491 or 34% were homeless at time of service), 3,324 families with 5,888 children of which 1,932 or 58% were female single parent households # of services provided: 681,316 including 138,207 bed nights for 3,268 people (of whom 162 were children) and 233,659 meals with a total recorded service value of $3,072,645.53.
