Best Mistakes

I’ve thumbed the dog-eared pages of my paperback life

Re-read confusing passages that never worked out right

All the muddles and miscommunications that landed me here

All the fights and late night conversations

All the wasted tears

Well I have made my fair share of mistakes

I’m not an angel, but then again I’m no fake

And I don’t regret a single day

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

(The best mistakes I’ve ever made)

I’ve tried to throw the past out

I’ve tried to shed my skin (shed my skin)

But the days go by so fast now

I kind of like remembering

The young man sitting at the station in a world of his own

The new sound, the overnight sensation

Flying so high that I couldn’t let go

Well I have made my fair share of mistakes

I’m not an angel, but then again I’m no fake

And I don’t regret a single day

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

I did my time on the merry-go-round

And if I had to choose between then and now

I’d choose now

All the muddles and miscommunications that landed me here

All the fights and late night conversations

All the wasted tears

Well I have made my fair share of mistakes

I’m not an angel, but then again I’m no fake (wasted tears)

And I don’t regret a single day

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

Well I have made my fair share of mistakes

I’ve been a poet, a preacher, a fool, and a rake

And I don’t regret a single day

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

(The best mistakes I’ve ever made)

They were the best mistakes I’ve ever made

Norman and Norma

Norman and Norma got married in Cromer

April 1983

It could have been warmer but Norman and Norma

Were happy as they’d ever been

They flew to Majorca and swam in the water

It felt just like having a bath

The pina coladas hit Norma hard

And she fell into bed with a laugh

And she said

Oh, Norman, it’s never ever felt like this before

And oh, Norman, I’ve never really known your kiss before Oh no, Norman, Norman

Norman and Norma had three lovely daughters

Nadia, Nora and Niamh

The firm Norma worked at wouldn’t take her back After maternity leave

They dreamt of Majorca but couldn’t afford to go On Norman’s salary

So they went to Cromer, got double pneumonia

And Norma remembered when she used to say

Oh, Norman, it’s never ever felt like this before

And oh, Norman, I’ve never really known your kiss before Oh no, Norman (Norman)

Twenty years on and the children have gone

And they’re both at a bit of a loss

They’ve tried salsa classes and growing tomatoes

But nothing is getting them off

Then one day in Clacton there’s a re-enactment

Of Normans and Saxons, and this

Gets their juices flowing, before long they’re going

And fighting like it’s 1066!

And she says

Oh, Norman, it’s never ever felt like this before

And oh, Norman, I’ve never really known such bliss before

Oh no, Norman

Oh no, Norman

No, no, no, no, no Norman

It’s never ever felt like this before

No, Norman, Norman (Norman)

He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother

… The road is long

With many a winding turn

That leads us to who knows where, who knows where But I’m strong

Strong enough to carry him

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

… So on we go

His welfare is of my concern

No burden is he to bear

We’ll get there

… For I know

He would not encumber me

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

… If I’m laden at all

I’m laden with sadness

That everyone’s heart

Isn’t filled with the gladness

Of love for one another

… It’s a long, long road

From which there is no return

While we’re on the way to there

Why not share?

… And the load

Doesn’t weigh me down at all

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

… He’s my brother

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother

Irish Heart Beat

Oh, won’t you stay -- stay awhile with your own ones

Don’t never stray -- stray so far from your own ones

For the world is so cold

Don’t care nothin’ for your soul

You share with your own ones

Don’t rush away -- rush away from your own ones

Just one more day -- one more day with your own ones

This old world is so cold

Don’t care nothin’ for your soul

You share with your own ones

And there’s a stranger -- and he’s standing by your door

Might be your best friend -- might be your brother

You may never know

I’m goin’ back -- goin’ back to my own ones

Back to talk -- talk awhile with your own ones

This old world is so cold

Don’t care nothin’ for you soul

You share with your own ones
