Ponce Inlet New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report It’s that Time of Year. The bait is running. Water and air temperature is cooling off and this means the October Reds are here. Eating and Breeding. These amazing fish are what we rely on to keep our business going every year. Everybody wants a chance to get Caught Up with a Trophy 45-50” Bull Redfish!! Limit size to be able to keep a Redfish is 18-27” so these massive redfish must be properly handled, Revived and released safely. Code Red Fishing Charters

Capt. Matt Lee 386-214-3530

www.CodeRedFishingCharters.net Weather Overview at Mosquito Lagoon As we carefully navigate around some scattered showers of the season, the fall temperatures at Mosquito Lagoon are holding in the low 80’s. The wind is shifting from the North East to South East and slowing down. As we move through the next couple weeks, we expect to see an increase in the bite during optimal weather windows. By Sunday, October 18, 2020, expect 81 degrees and sunshine for the perfect sight-fishing conditions. Looking back at the weekend behind us, we had great weather, low winds and good fishing runs with some bull redfish that tipped the scales. We anticipate an increase in the bite and successful fishing runs, as we navigate through October. Fish Species on the Radar The mullet run is underway, bringing in schools of migrating snook, redfish, jack and kingfish. A variety of gamefish are being caught in large numbers. Snook and tarpon are an easy catch with a free-lined mullet. However, it is the abundance of bull redfish that have our attention this month. These aggressive bulls are a reminder that the fall season has arrived. Spawning season is here at Mosquito Lagoon, creating some of the best opportunities to catch a heavyweight bull redfish. This ferocious species is dominating the fishing experience in the Lagoon right now. Fishing Rigs at Mosquito Lagoon Fishing rigs make all the difference, and Code Red Fishing Charters is prepared to deliver your fishing experience with rigs designed for your target fish. Hook sizes and styles vary, depending on the target fish and the situation. We stay prepared for any sports fish, especially a bull redfish. The perfect rig to catch a bull redfish is a 2oz weight, a 5/0 circle hook, a 7ft heavy action rod, and a 30lbs braided line. We are baiting with mullet, blue crabs, pin fish and croakers to entice an aggressive bite. Swim baits, diving plugs or jigs can create a successful bait run. The ultimate fishing experience is with Code Red Fishing Charters, where the best rigs for catching bull redfish are supplied. Water Levels and Other Conditions Mosquito Lagoon lacks measurable tides. Water levels rely more on wind than lunar influence. The South winds can slightly increase water levels, but we are still observing lower levels, as we move towards the winter season. A shallow-draft skiff is ideal and almost necessary to fish the skinny waters of Mosquito Lagoon. Code Red Fishing Charters has the advantage with an 18ft shallow-draft skiff and a trolling motor to carefully maneuver the waters. Code Red Fishing Charters is keeping an eye on the calendar and fishing conditions for the ultimate fishing excursions. Mosquito Lagoon is one of our favorite places to explore on our private fishing charters. If you want to learn the secrets to catching bull redfish, climb aboard Code Red Fishing Charters for a fishing adventure unlike any other. SSFHMagazine Nov/Dec 2020 Page 17

Both are available in Olive/Khaki and Navy/Light Blue. Other products and designs developed by PahaQue include: Green Mountain, Promontory and Pamo Valley family tents; Cottonwood shade shelters and screen rooms; single- and double-wide hammocks; the Tepee Shower and Outhouse tent; tents, shades and covers for towable trailers. “Many of the camping tent design features that we have pioneered have become standard on family camping tents,” Jeff Basford, President of PahaQue Wilderness, said. “PahaQue remains committed to developing tent designs that set the bar for quality and performance.” And the answer to the PahaQue question Basford is frequently asked: PahaQue is pronounced pah-HAH-kay. “PahaQue is a common greeting from the old Southwest, which we take to mean ‘Happy Trails,’” Basford said. BREVARD COUNTY

By: Tim Camp

Greetings, salutations, and hello again from Mims Florida!! Well this year most certainly has been a wet one. The waters are as high as its ever been in our local lakes and out on the Econ river. While we were fortunate enough to stay out of the way of those hurricanes here in the central part of Florida this year,(knocking on wood) we have most absorbently done our part in soaking up every drop from everywhere. Plenty of locals were able to tag out on their gator tags quickly. The toughest challenge this year out on the water was not being chased off the waters by those pop up evening storms.

Paige Dye hailed in this monster 11’ lizard out of Lake Jessup

Well I'd like to tell you I'm done ranting about water, but it's still deer season so if you're thinking about heading out into the great outdoors to grab that trophy buck, ya might wanna grab that canoe! Cause those waters didn't stop at any tree lines. Obviously don't grab the boat, but seriously every snap, pic video, and self experience I have this year has for sure been a damp one, so don't forget your water boots. There have been a few good bucks harvested in local zones, but I do feel as if the best is yet to come if we can dry out a little bit and get some cooler weather for a change. The mullet run I fear may have already came and gone, but it might not be a bad idea to grab the surf rods and go try your luck at your local beaches. With the annual mullet run the fish are in a feeding frenzy, and your much more likely to hook up with that giant Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Shark (if you're into that type of fish lol). All the same any fishin' is good fishin'!! With the holidays upon us, I leave you with Merry Christmas & Happy Thanksgiving! Until Next Year, High Tines & Tight Lines Tim Camp

Congrats to the photo contest WINNER Ally Wickmam caught this monster snook near the Haulover canal area. Ally will receive a $20 Gift Card sponsored by D&E Hardware

PUTNAM COUNTY MESSER’S EAST-WEST BAIT & TACKLE @386-328-4035 – Jimmy tells us they are starting to catch some specks in Lake Crescent off deep water docks. Flipping small jigs and jigs tipped with minnows flipped under the docks is working well. Some pretty nice bass are coming out of the River. It took 26 pounds to win the Classic this past weekend. Jason Caldwell and Parker Stavley won and had big bass which went 6.86 pounds. Lots of catfish are coming out of Dunn’s Creek. GEORGETOWN MARINA & LODGE @ 386-467-2002 – Nolan tells us they are catching lots of nice sized bass using plastic worms, flukes and frogs. A few specks are being caught off the pilings in Lake George using minnows. Lynn has been catching quite a few specks off the dock using minnows. They are catching stripped bass with live shrimp and nice sized catfish are being caught right now.

LAKE COUNTY BASS N GAL GUIDE SERVICE @ 352-267-0062 – The Harris chain has been giving up some nice bass. With the cooler days and nights the specks should be turning on this next full moon. Lake Griffin and Lake Eustis are usually the first lakes to turn on. They are also very productive for bass fishing. Either swimming or bottom fishing a worm as slow as you can. A floating worm is also working quite well. For the fishing trip you’ve dreamed of give me a call @ 352-2670062. Jake at ASTOR BAIT & TACKLE @352-759-2600 tells us that they are catching specks in both Lakes Woodriff and Dexter. His shop is well stocked for all your panfish needs. He has in stock the War Horses by Gill Reaper lures. Jake has frog gigs in stock as well. He has come out with the new Vexan offshore rods so go buy and check them out – they are awesome. BROOKER BAIT & TACKLE @352460-0695 Gordon said they are starting to catch a few specks. Greg Fricke caught some nice ones shooting docks on the Harris Chain.

One of his other customers, Robert Earl caught 30 using small minnows. It t o o k 25 pounds plus to win a recent tournament held out of Buzzard Beach. Matt Gee and Calan Hawkins were the winners. Bass fishing has been really good in Big Lake Harris using speed worms – watermelon red. Big bass went over 8 pounds. A lot of bass are being caught on chatterbaits. Lake Harris & Lake Griffon using both large and medium domestic shiners are also good. David Robertson recently caught a 30 ½ inch snook and several nice redfish and trout over around Titusville. LAKESIDE BAIT & TACKLE @ 352-742-3336. Mark said the crappie are being caught out of the deeper water using grass shrimp and minnows. The water temperature has started to cool off so the bass are on the move. 4 things to know if you’re hunting a wildlife management area

Tips for logging and reporting harvested deer

•This season, check stations will be open at those WMAs that have one. However, normal check station procedures may be modified because of COVID-19. Also, when visiting WMAs and check stations, please follow current Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) public safety recommendations. •You can search for public hunting opportunities by location, season, species, and type of hunt using WMA Finder. If you know which WMA regulations brochure you want to review, search by "specific area" and use the drop-down menu to navigate directly to that area’s brochure. WMA regulations brochures and maps are only available online and access to WMA regulations brochures is through the WMA Finder only. It's important to review the WMA regulations brochure before you head afield because season dates and other rules may vary. •Want to take the WMA regulations brochures and area maps with you, even to places internet access isn’t available? Try taking a screenshot with your smartphone, downloading the files to your mobile device or printing them. •Before visiting a wildlife management area (WMA), always check the WMA's open/closed status.

With deer hunting season underway in some parts of the state and opening soon in others, we wanted to provide the following tips for reporting your harvested deer using our new, convenient options. If you plan to use: •The toll-free phone number to report your harvest, make sure you replace last year’s phone number with this new one: 888-HUNT-FLORIDA (888-486-8356) •The Fish|Hunt FL app to log and report, download it from Apple App Store or Google Play before you head afield •Online reporting, bookmark GoOutdoorsFlorida.com so you can easily navigate to the webpage •A paper harvest log, print extra copies to take with you Learn more about the new options to log and report harvested deer. Also, check our FAQs about deer hunting for information about bag limits, license and permit requirements, youth-related rules and more. We keep about 5,500 acres of prime Low Country land for our hunting. We have a mixture of river bottoms, pine ridges, farming area on higher land, where the deer have plenty to eat year round. Most of our stands are on food plots we keep planted all year, with a mixture of 7 different forages for the deer and turkeys, also some corn is fed year round, and at least weekly during the hunting season. All stands are wrapped for concealment, have roofs for foul weather, also for shade in Aug. and Sept. and most are large enough to accommodate two hunters. We can comfortably accommodate and hunt 15 hunters per day, but seldom have that many in camp at one time. There are over 150 stands, which allow us to have plenty of options of stand rotation to keep sightings at good numbers right on through December.
