Greetings from North Brevard! As the sun sets on the near end August days, one can’t help but smell the hopes of fall in the wind streams. The nights are growing cooler and the hopes of disappearing mosquitoes are in our sights! Of course we still have a ways to go here in our two season state but,… there is finally a glimmer of hope. Congruent with those same aspirations we’re finally cognizant of the fact that… HEY!!!! IT’S HUNTING SEASON!!!

The First stage of Gator season has begun and local hunters are looking to land that big lake lizard they have previously tried to steer away from. With that same anticipation our local deer hunters have been busy filling feeders and setting up tree stands in preparation of this deer seasons September 18th opening. As a man that makes a living setting up Bows and Guns for customers I can tell you that this crazy year has been long awaited from our local hunters. So get out there and be safe, be respectful, become one with nature and trust me, the rest will take care of itself. Until next time, High Tines & Tight Lines Tim Camp

Our Mission The ORIGINAL group of Louisiana lifestyle & cuisine lovers bring a Gumbo Cook-off to the forefront here in Central Florida to benefit deserving Juniors Angler groups, Teen Angler, Youth and Junior Anglers Education (JAE).
Finding its origin among likeminded friends who share a passion for good food and fishing, the concept Gumbo Wars was established in 2011. Our intentions were having fun and raising funds used to support and promote youth fishing and conservation programs in Central Florida and our success continues to accomplish these goals today. Good food and the outdoors just go together, and after having fun and serving great gumbo for over ten years, the Gumbo Wars organization has supplied grants and scholarships to youth fishing organizations and conservation programs ranging well over 100,000 dollars. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, Gumbo Wars Inc. has introduced thousand of kids to fishing through its Junior Angler Education program where volunteers teach children and their parents the

PUTNAM COUNTY According to Lafon at BASS WORLD LODGE 386-467-2267 with the full moon coming up, Mark has been catching bass in the big and little lake. The bream fishermen have done real good on bedding fish. Some customers from Georgia caught their limit of bream using crickets and worms. Catfish and some nice stripers are being caught. Keith and Kevin got a limit of bream. Mark and Blondie caught some nice bass yesterday. They are also hearing rumors of shrimp showing up. MESSER’S EAST-WEST BAIT & TACKLE 386-328-4035 Jimmy tells us they are catching a few specks out of Dunn’s Creek under the docks with several nice sized ones. They have had over 80 inches of rain in the last couple of months. Shellcracker have been bedding for two months now and are being caught using wigglers and crickets (when they can find crickets).

This has been a great year for speck fishermen, we are surprised they are still catching them this late. Bass are being caught using plastic worms, Rat-L-Traps, flukes and spinnerbaits.

Introducing Doo-B’s:
The world’s first hemp-based bioplastic fishing lure. Walking down aisle after aisle of various fishing lures in just about any big box outdoors store, tackle warehouse or even local baitshop, it is hard not to wonder where all of those fancy fishing lures end up. This is why Doo-B’s Hemp-Based Bioplastic Fishing Lures were developed. Doo-B’s are the world’s first fishing lure that uses biodegradable hemp plastic to create baits that acts and feel like traditional softbaits while leaving less harmful plastic in the environment.

SEMINOLE-ORANGE COUNTY
By: Capt Lynda Hawkins
Lake Okeechobee Covers 730 square miles Palm Beach, Martin, Glades, Okeechobee, and Hendry counties Lake Okeechobee is Florida's largest lake and the second largest body of fresh water in the contiguous United States. The word Okeechobee comes from the Seminole Indian language "Oki" (water) and "Chubi" (big) and means "big water." These early Floridians chose the name well. Vast surface area (730 square miles), shallowness (averaging only nine feet deep) and enormous habitat diversity makes the ecosystem unique on the North American continent. The lake is a multiple-use resource, which supports valuable commercial and sport fisheries, provides flood control and acts as a reservoir for potable and irrigation water for much of south Florida. Lake Okeechobee is located on the south-central portion of the Florida peninsula about an hour and a half south of Orlando. Major natural tributaries to the lake are Fisheating Creek, Taylor Creek and the Kissimmee River. Sheet outflow occurred historically across the entire southern rim into the Everglades. Lake Okeechobee is now connected to the Atlantic Ocean through the St. Lucie Canal as well as the Gulf of Mexico through the Caloosahatchee River. The lake’s aquatic plant communities provide crucial areas where fish spawn, forage, and hide from predators. Historically, the bulrush community has yielded a high abundance of sportfish such as Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, as well as important forage species like Golden shiner. Submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) such as eelgrass, hydrilla, and Illinois pondweed (commonly known as peppergrass) also yield high abundance of fish, and have been strongly linked to the recruitment and survival of young sportfish like Largemouth Bass. These plant communities and others provide great fishing in Lake Okeechobee, especially when they create a mosaic of habitat. Cont on pg 28

Bass fishing is good year-round in Okeechobee, but is the best during the months of December through April when they are typically spawning. Crappie fishing is also best during their spawning season between January and March. The bluegill and redear sunfish usually begin spawning in late March and will continue through the beginning of June. Creel surveys on Okeechobee have shown recent improvements in bass and crappie catch rates this past fall and winter. Big bass have remained abundant, with many anglers catching fish over eight pounds, and winning tournament weights have commonly reached or exceeded 30 pounds. Anglers targeting crappie have had good success harvesting their bag limit of 25 fish. For more information go to www.content.govdelivery.com

Jake at ASTOR BAIT & TACKLE 352-759-2600 tells us a few bluegill and shellcrackers are being caught using wigglers and redworms. They are still catching a few specks in deep water trolling using small minnows. Gordon at BROOKER BAIT & TACKLE 352-460-0695 said in the recent tournament Jason Haines won with 23 pounds. 4 boats had over 20 pounds. Bass are being caught out of the shallow water in the grass. Gordon went to the Clermont chain recently and caught a few using wacky worms. His brother caught a 6 pound channel cat using a topwater plug. Bluegill are being caught out of Venetian Gardens. LAKESIDE BAIT & TACKLE 352742-3336 Heidi tells us the shellcracker and bluegill are on fire in Haines Creek and over by Howey using grass shrimp and redworms. Bass are being caught using trick worms and sinkos out of grass pads and under docks. Crank baits are working on the bluegill beds. They are in the grass and lily pads. BASS N GAL GUIDE SERVICE 352-267-0062 We have been catching a few bass on the Harris chain using topwater, worms and crank baits. Cast close to the lily pads or grass and be patient. A slow falling sinking weightless worm (Producto’s Hot Rod) or a white and chartreuse spinner bait reeled in as slowly as possible, are both working quite well.
Seeing Red these Snappers were caught during the Atlantic 3 day season. Alley Blackwelder with Brian Blackwelder top photo caught aboard the Poseidon Too Alley and Zoe Metts on the last drop of the day caught the pair to the right.

386-252-8471 WWW.BUCKSGUNRACK.COM If you’re planning to hunt outside of Florida: Be aware of rule changes that prohibit importing or possessing whole carcasses or high-risk parts of deer, elk, moose, caribou and all other species of the deer family originating from any place outside of Florida. Under the new rules, people may import into Florida: • De-boned meat • Finished taxidermy mounts • Clean hides and antlers • Skulls, skull caps and teeth if all soft tissue has been removed
HICKLING FEED
Full Line Of Feed
The only exception to this rule is deer harvested from a property in Georgia or Alabama can be imported into Florida if the property is bisected by the Florida state line and is under the same ownership. See this infographic about the new rules.
Custom Feeds
These rules went into effect July 1, 2021, and replace FWC Executive Order 19-41. The new rules do NOT include the permit option allowed under FWC Executive Order 19-41 to import whole deer or high-risk parts from properties in Georgia or Alabama provided certain requirements are met.
549 N. Samsula Dr. New Smyrna Beach, Fl. 32168
These rule changes continue the FWC’s work to protect Florida’s deer populations by reducing the risk of chronic wasting disease (CWD) spreading into the state. CWD has not been detected in Florida.

Gobblers Lodge 3D is a members only archery range where people can come to learn and practice the sport. The range consists of a 100 yard shooting range located along the east side of the property, and a 3D course located in the middle of the property. Archers using the shooting range can aim for targets set at 10 yard intervals, up to 100 yards. The 3D course is designed to shoot from elevated platforms located along the edge of a 2.5-acre wetland area in the middle of the 10-acre parcel. Archers aim at targets set in amongst the trees to simulate a hunting experience. Both the range and 3D course platforms comprise a total of five shooting stations.

DEER HUNTING SEASON 3 DAYS HUNTS $1,295.00 5 DAY HUNTS $1,995.00 Meals & Lodging Included with all pricing!
We have the longest deer season in the US August 15th-January 1st, with weapon of choice for the entire season. The velvet hunts last through Labor Day weekend and the rut is throughout the months of October and November. We hunt seven days a week and allow two bucks per day, only with one small (under 12" wide) per hunter, per season. We have open areas where first timers can take a buck, Long Managed Trophy Areas where bucks must be a minimum of 15" outside spread. Then we have our special Big Trophy Area, where the bucks have been on strict management for only mature bucks for the past 13 seasons, the bucks there have to be 16" outside spread of 110 Boone and Crockett Score. That area will be for very serious Trophy Hunters only.
Wild Hog Hunts Year Round 3 Days $1,095
Meals & Lodging Included with all pricing!
Spring Turkey Season 3 Days $1,395
Meals & Lodging Included with all pricing! Turkey Season opens on March 20th each year and runs through May 5th. We have 5,500 of prime turkey woods with a mixture of river bottoms, pine ridges and lots of food plots planted with chuffas, the turkey’s favorite. Our seasoned guides are very familiar with our properties and are very personable and experienced. While on your turkey hunt , if you would like to sit for a wild hog in the afternoon, you are allowed to take one hog during the three day hunt for no extra charge. We have lots of them and some really big ones. We can hunt hogs year round and some of our most productive hunts this past year took place in May, June and July. We have plenty of land now with hogs to be able to hunt large groups, up to 10. We can even accommodate bow groups that large. Hogs are very smart animals, don’t come thinking they are just dumb farm animals. This is a fun hunt for all who just do not want to quit hunting after their deer season closes.
