Collect of the Day Presider Merciful God, who called your servant Macrina to reveal in her life and teaching the riches of your grace and truth: Grant that we, following her example, may seek after your wisdom and live according to the way of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. People Amen.
THE LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading While I was still young, before I went on my travels, I sought wisdom openly in my prayer. Before the temple I asked for her, and I will search for her until the end. From the first blossom to the ripening grape, my heart delighted in her; my foot walked on the straight path; from my youth I followed her steps. I inclined my ear a little and received her, and I found for myself much instruction. I made progress in her; to him who gives wisdom I will give glory. For I resolved to practice wisdom, and I was zealous for the good, and I shall never be disappointed. My soul grappled with wisdom, and in my conduct I was strict. I spread out my hands to the heavens and lamented my ignorance of her. I directed my soul to her, and in purity I found her. With her I gained understanding from the first; 4

therefore I will never be forsaken. My heart was stirred to seek her; therefore I have gained a prize possession. The Lord gave me my tongue as a reward, and I will praise him with it.

The Holy Gospel
Mark 3:20–34
Then he went home, and the crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.” And he called them to him and spoke to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered. “Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness but is guilty of an eternal sin”— for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.” Then his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!

Confession and Absolution of Sin
As announced
Presider People
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Presider
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through the grace of Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

Prayer after Communion Presider People
Let us pray. Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Announcements Welcome We are delighted to welcome you to the Monastery today, either in-person or online. If you are a visitor, or new to the Monastery or Community, please take a moment to introduce yourself to one of the Brothers following the Eucharist. If you are joining us online, drop us a note telling us where you are joining us from.
The Chapel is Currently Closed We have had a few positive COVID tests at the monastery, and following professional medical advice, the Chapel is once again closed until at least Wednesday, 20 July. On Wednesday we will assess the situation and determine if it is safe to reopen the Chapel on Thursday. This means that the Chapel will not be open for public worship, including on either Sunday, 17 July or Tuesday, 19 July. We very much regret this decision, but we believe it is the safest course of action for the Brothers, and members of our worshipping congregations.
Retreat Day The community’s next retreat day is Wednesday, July 27. We will not pray Compline on Tuesday, July 26 or Morning Prayer and Compline on Wednesday, July 27. Our retreat day in September will be Wednesday, September 7.
Upcoming Schedule Changes The community will be having discussions from Thursday, July 28 through Saturday, July 30. Therefore, there will be no Noonday Prayer or Compline services on those days.
August Chapel Closure The community will be having our yearly retreat and away time in the month of August. The chapel will close after Evensong on Sunday, July 31 and will reopen for Evensong on Saturday, August 27. We wish everyone a blessed and fruitful August and will see you all in the Fall.

Livestreaming We livestream Evening Prayer and Compline throughout the week, as well as the Sunday and Tuesday Eucharists. If you cannot join us in person, please join us online.
Post Sunday Eucharist Refreshments We are now offering refreshments after the Sunday Eucharist in the Guesthouse Garden. If you would like to volunteer to bring baked goods, a sign-up sheet in the narthex is available. See Brother Michael for more information if interested.
Holy Communion We will now administer Holy Communion by both Bread and Wine. If you feel uncomfortable receiving the Wine, please remember that the Church catholic has always taught that the fullness of the Sacrament is received even when only one form is received. We ask that you not use the method of intinction, dipping the Bread into the Wine.
Gluten Free Wafers at Holy Communion Please indicate to the Brother administering Holy Communion if that is your preference.
Monastery Guesthouse Limited space and times are available for stays in the guesthouse between now and the end of July. If a time of quiet and retreat would be helpful, please check our website for more information. We ask that all guests be fully vaccinated and boosted, and to be prepared to wear masks in the chapel.
Saturday Evening Prayer Evening Prayer (Evensong) is one of the glories of Anglicanism. The community sings Evening Prayer at 6:00 PM Wednesday through Saturday and at 4:00 PM on Sunday. Saturday Evening Prayer is especially beautiful. Now that the chapel is open again, why not make attending Evening Prayer on Saturday, or another evening during the week, part of your regular pattern. For more information about the Society, stays in the Guest House, or to subscribe to Brother Give Us A Word, or our occasional news update, please check our website at www.SSJE.org 15
