First Reading Isaiah 30:18–21
Gradual: Psalm 119:33–40
Second Reading
The Apostles’ Creed
Presider I believe in God, People the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Invitation to Communion
Presider Behold what you are.
People May we become what we receive.
A Note about Holy Communion
Following Diocesan guidelines, please refrain from intinction (dipping the Bread into the Chalice). If you wish to abstain from receiving from the Chalice, remember that the Church catholic has always taught that the fullness of the Sacrament is received even when only one form is received.
If you require a Gluten-Free host, please indicate to the Brother administering Bread at Holy Communion if that is your preference.

Prayer after Communion
Presider God of steadfast love, People watch over the Church redeemed by the blood of your Son. May we who share in these holy mysteries come safely to your eternal kingdom, where there is one flock and one shepherd. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the risen Lord.
Amen.

Welcome
We are delighted to welcome you to the Monastery today, either in-person or online. If you are a visitor, or new to the Monastery or Community, please take a moment to introduce yourself to one of the Brothers following the Eucharist. If you are joining us online, drop us a note telling us where you are joining us from.
Retreat Day
The community will take its retreat day in May on Wednesday, 3 May. We will not pray Compline on Tuesday, 2 May, or Morning Prayer or Compline on Wednesday, 3 May. Our retreat and fast day in July will be on Wednesday, 5 July.
St. John’s Day
We will be celebrating our annual patronal festival, the Feast of St. John, the Beloved Disciple, on Saturday, 6 May at 11:00 AM. Our preacher for St. John’s Day this year is The Reverend Cathy George. Cathy has served as a parish priest in this Diocese and as both the Assistant Dean of Yale Divinity School and the Associate Dean of Berkeley Divinity School, the Episcopal seminary at Yale. We are delighted to be able to welcome her to the Monastery as our preacher this year. Following the service there will be our annual garden party and luncheon. All are welcome. Please invite someone who doesn’t yet know the monastery to join you.
Bishop Visitor
The Right Reverend A. Robert Hirschfeld, the Bishop Visitor of the Community, will be making his annual visitation the week of 9–12 May. Bishop Hirschfeld will preach and preside at the Eucharist on Tuesday, 9 May at 5:30 PM. This service will be both in-person and livestreamed.
Boston Calling
Boston Calling will take place the weekend of 26–28 May. As a result, the chapel will close after Evening Prayer on Thursday, 25 May. We will open for the Sunday Eucharist on 28 May, and close again following the Eucharist. We will reopen for Morning Prayer on Tuesday, 30 May. Except for the Sunday Eucharist we will not livestream our services during this time.

Announcements
Student Tuesdays
For our weekly Tuesday evening student group, we invite local students to join us each week for the Eucharist, supper, discussion, and Compline, in any combination. Information and registration can be found at www.ssje.org/students.
Sacristy Laundry Assistance
With six celebrations of the Holy Eucharist occurring every week, it probably won’t surprise you to learn we go through a lot of linens at the altar. Each of these requires a gentle washing followed by a careful drying with a hot iron while still damp. If you have any interest in helping us keep up with this important sacramental laundry, please speak to Br. Sean.
Parking
From Sunday, 30 April through Sunday, 12 November, Memorial Drive will close to traffic and parking on Sundays only from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. On Sundays, free parking is available in the public parking garage underneath the Harvard Square Hotel at 110 Mount Auburn Street.
Livestreaming
We livestream Evening Prayer and Compline throughout the week, as well as the Sunday and Tuesday Eucharists. If you are unable to join us in person, please join us online.
Evening Prayer
Evening Prayer (Evensong) is one of the glories of Anglicanism. The community sings Evening Prayer at 6:00 PM Wednesday through Saturday, and at 4:00 PM on Sunday. We invite you to join us, especially for Saturday and Sunday Evening Prayer, which are especially beautiful.
