Ongoing Coyote Removal Efforts

Ever since they were first spotted by our Animal Control Officer in the winter of ‘88, coyotes have been a concern to island residents. As the original population that crossed the river has multiplied over the years, that concern as developed into a very real issue. Over the past month there were several coyote attacks on family pets reported to the Grosse Ile Police Department and Island Clinic. Many residents are calling for action, but what they do not realize is that actions are already being taken. I spoke with Police Chief Joseph Porcarelli, who has been at the head of a trapping operation since August 2015. The goal of the ongoing operation is to not only correctly, but safely reduce the population on Grosse Ile. The Police Department has worked with the
