1. Before the concert

Today, I am going to the Victoria Concert Hall.

This is where I will watch the Singapore Symphony Orchestra perform.

When I enter the glass doors, I will see the Atrium.

Today, the Atrium will have many people and musical instruments at the Instrument Petting Zoo.

I can learn about the instruments or try them.

If I find it too loud, I can exit the building or go to a quieter area at Level 3.

Before or after the concert, I can also make my own pirate hat at Level 2.

There will be low tables with coloured crayons that I can use to colour my hat.

2. Going into the concert hall

I can get settled into the concert hall 30 minutes before the concert starts.

Sample seat number

My ticket will tell me what my seat number is, and which door to use.

The concert hall has two sections: the ‘Stalls’ at Level 2 and the ‘Circle’ at Level 3.

To get to the ‘Stalls’, I can climb the stairs or take the lift to Level 2.

To get to the ‘Circle’, I can take the lift to Level 3.

The nearest toilets are on Levels 2 and 3.

The nearest nursing room is at Basement 1.

I can go to the toilet before I enter the hall, or anytime during the concert.

To get into the concert hall, I have to wait for the usher to scan my ticket.

I can learn more about the concert from the programme booklet, displayed outside the concert hall.

The concert hall has many seats. If I need a booster seat to see the performance better, there are some available at the entrance.

The ushers will be able to guide me to my seat.

At the front of the concert hall, there is a stage where the performance will happen.

I can go to the front of the concert hall to see the orchestra closer, but I cannot go onto the stage or touch anything onstage.

When the concert is about to start, I should return to my seat.

3. During the concert

There will be a presenter at the front of the stage. His name is Awesome Al. He will speak into the mic during the concert, and introduce the story. Sometimes, he will ask everyone to follow his actions. If I want to, I can follow him.

The person standing in front of the orchestra is the conductor, Rodolfo.

He waves his arms to tell the musicians the beat of the music and how to express the music.

The rest of the people onstage are musicians who play musical instruments. They will play the music I hear today.

Together, they form the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Sometimes, the music may get loud. I can put on my headphones to make everything softer.

I can also go to the Calm Corner just outside the concert hall.

At the Calm Corner, there is a tent that I can hide in, and toys that I can play with.

When I feel better, I can go back into the concert hall.

4. The story (spoilers ahead!)

Awesome Al is a pirate on board the pirate ship called ‘Barnacle Bill’.

Along the way, we meet the rest of the crew and learn some sea tunes.

On the way to find the treasure chest, Awesome Al meets other pirates.

Awesome Al and his crew has to fight the other pirates for their treasure chest.

Eventually, they win!

5. After the concert

After the concert ends, I will leave the concert hall.

If too many people are leaving at the same time, I can wait in my seat for the crowd to clear first.

Awesome Al will come out to meet everyone.

I can line up for my turn to meet him.

When it is my turn, I can say hi to him and take a photo with him.

Once I finish, I will leave the Victoria Concert Hall and enjoy the rest of my day!
