O gift of God, yours is the sweet Consoling name of Paraclete, And spring of life and fire of love, And unction flowing from above. The mystic sevenfold gifts are yours, Finger of God’s right hand divine The Father’s promise sent to teach The tongue a rich and heavenly speech. Kindle with fire brought from above, Each sense and fill our hearts with love And grant our flesh so weak and frail The strength of yours which cannot fail. Drive far away our deadly foe And grant us your true peace to know So we, led by your guidance still May safely pass through every ill. To us through you the grace be shown To know the Father and the Son And Spirit of them both may we Forever rest our faith in Thee. To God the Father, let us sing To God the Son, our risen Lord And equally let us adore The Spirit, God, forever more. Amen.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be Created And you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray, O God, on the first Pentecost, you instructed the hearts of those who believed in you by the light of the Holy Spirit. Under the inspiration of the same Spirit, give us a taste for what is right and true, and a continuing sense of Her joy-bringing presence and power through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen FIRST DAY “God is light; there is no darkness in him at all.” 1 John 1:5 All of us are hungry and longing for light. We need light to live, to find strength, joy and beauty. God, the Holy Spirit, is the source of all light. The Holy Spirit sends it forth to all of us. Our task is to accept it and follow where it leads. God, Holy Spirit, guide me always in your holy light! SECOND DAY “But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses […], and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Every inspiration is indeed a word of God coming to us from his wisdom and mercy. Such an inspiration is a manifestation of the Spirit’s will, a gift of God’s goodness, a breath of God’s Spirit. God
comes to us in such inspirations. The Holy Spirit acts in our intentions in the very depths of our soul. God, Holy Spirit, fill my whole being with your divine inspirations! THIRD DAY “I have come to bring fire to the earth; and how I wish it were blazing!” Lk 12:49 God the Holy Spirit is the stream of fire that enkindles our hearts. Fire is powerful and if not contained is able to consume many things. At the same time fire is also able to purify things better then water. The Holy Spirit has such power. God, Holy Spirit send your holy fire into my heart to purify it completely! FOURTH DAY “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” Lk 4:18 The Holy Spirit instructs us in the realization of our goal. The Holy Spirit would like to find us ever watchful, ever active. The Spirit’s grace is readily available to anyone who sincerely strives. The apostolic spirit does not depend only on prayer and the offering of our doings and sufferings; it must be a deep, genuine attitude in all our desires and endeavors, in the complete surrender of all that we are and have. God, Holy Spirit, grant us the grace of apostolic zeal!
FIFTH DAY
SEVENTH DAY
“This is the victory over the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4
“The love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, which has been given to us.” Rom 5:5
Under the influence of his grace the soul awakens to a divine life, which constantly expands and deepens as we faithfully put it into practice, is gradually perfected and finally ascends to intimate union with God. The purer and deeper our faith, the more it encompasses every virtue and becomes the driving force of their activity. God, Holy Spirit, deepen and perfect my faith in you! SIXTH DAY “May the God of hope bring you such joy and peace in your faith that the power of the Holy Spirit will remove all bounds to hope.” Rom 15:13 God- given hope is the sun of our spirit. Hope shows us great, divine goals. It makes us strong, encourages us to unfold our potential in brisk strides. Holy hope is a force which disposes us to believe. Hope also encourages us to act for the good of all. The Holy Spirit wants us to expect everything, even great graces, from God. Above all the Holy Spirit strengthens us in the moments of storms and difficulties. God, Holy Spirit, encourage us to always hope beyond our human hope and count on your wisdom and love!
It is from the Holy Spirit, the source of divine love, that we have to expect the growth and maturation of our love. The Holy Spirit wants to take delight in our love. The Holy Spirit wants to see it give us light and warmth, to make us happy. Love with the Holy Spirit, who lives in you in order to be the source of your love, the soul of your prayer, the power of your divine worship. God, Holy Spirit, grant us the grace to live for love each moment of our life! EIGHTH DAY “I want you to be happy, always happy in the Lord; I repeat, what I want is your happiness.” Ph 4:4 Our religion is a religion of joy. Joy, an indispensable element of the spiritual life, creates the climate for heroic virtue. Joy has the power to transfigure our work and all our activity. This necessary joy disengages us from everything mundane and personal and raises us up to God. It makes us experience moments in which we quietly admire God, revel in God’s friendship.
God, Holy Spirit, spill over your joy in our hearts that will keep our hearts grateful! NINTH DAY “He came to bring the good news of peace, peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near at hand.” Eph 2:17 Christ’s peace takes root in our hearts as a delicate fruit of the Holy Spirit. Peace is the ripe fruit of good will. Peace is not something definite or static; it is either ongoing or diminishing. It is in a state of becoming and fulfillment proportionate to our attunement to God. Peace is happiness of spirit, fullness of grace, possession of God. It effects harmony amid the most disturbing experiences by the human heart. God, Holy Spirit, you are the source of peace, flood our souls with your peace!
