t is not by coincidence or luck that Nike has chosen Al Ain FC’s golden boy and national star athlete Omar Abdulrahman to introduce the Hypervenom II to the UAE. It is the combination of his agility and incredible performance on the field that have him sharing the world stage with football greats like Neymar and Götze. While he has already made a name for himself amongst players of the Arab world and Asia, Omar who also goes by ‘Amoory’ is ready to become an international icon. A man in demand, both locally and internationally, his love for football and Nike is always prominent!

Are you ready to start playing football internationally?
I hope so. It is every footballer’s dream to play on an international stage, but that can wait, as I have a 3-year contract with Al Ain FC and I’m happy playing for them. If God wants me to play internationally, it will happen.
What are your ambitions for the UAE national team?
Our greatest goal is to qualify for the World Cup finals in Russia 2018. For now, our highest priority is the Asia Championship 2019, as it’ll be held in our country and we’ll be cheered on by our supporters. It would be great to win this continental title.
What was it like for Al Ain FC to win the Arabian Gulf League?
What are some of the best matches you’ve played so far in your career?
Thank God, after all the effort we’ve put in for the entire season we’ve been victorious. Though, I do wish we didn’t have to compete against our brothers at the AlAhli Club, so that we could have qualified together at the quarter finals. In any case now, it is all about supporting the team representing the UAE.
Some of my most memorable matches include playing against Iraq for the 21st Gulf Cup Finals in Manama; Uruguay at the 2012 London Olympics, and the President’s Cup Final, where we up against Al Ahli.
Tell us how you’ve risen through the ranks so quickly?
It was during the recent Asian Finals in Australia. We were playing Japan, and it reached penalty shootouts; I wasn’t sure if I was up for this nerve-wracking moment but I knew that it was really important so I gave it my all and kept the team spirit up, which helped, because we won the match. Undoubtedly, my Hypervenom shoes helped me through this too – particularly because when it comes to penalty kicks, your feet and shoes have to be one unit so that you can execute passes effortlessly, and the Hypervenoms did just that.
This is a gift given to me by God. For any player to excel, he has to be incredibly focused; with every match I’ve played, I’ve paid attention to the way the ball balances and moves with my feet. Football is my passion and my desire, and thanks to the great team spirit I’m surrounded by at Al Ain and the National Football Club, it has got me where I am today. There’s also my Nike Hypervenom II that helps me through every game; it’s the shoe worn by only the best players.
Does it really help?
What’s important for me is a football shoe that is not only light and flexible, it moves naturally with me as if it was a second skin, so I can control the ball and tackle my opponents with ease. What was the most difficult decision you’ve made while playing on the field but you were glad you did it?
Lastly, what are the challenges that await?
With Al Ain it would have to getting through and winning the Asian Federation Cup Champions League, whilst on a national level it’ll be a dream for my teammates and I to win the Asia Championship title. Personally, I do wish to play at the World Cup in Russia; however, at the end it’s my colleagues and I working as a team that will get us winning the matches we play.

If you are a long way from the goal, allow 4 to 5 steps to gain speed and to have power behind your kick. If you are near to the goal, then one long stride and a powerful boost is enough to place the ball at the back of the net.

organ Lake’s first transformative sport moment came when she broke the UK under-13 pentathlon record. “The first time I broke a British record it was an unbelievable feeling, and from there I was certain that this was the path for me,” says Lake, who toppled the UK under-13 pentathlon record in 2009. Now 18 years old, Lake is more focused on winning than ever. Having just completed her final school exams, she has even more time and energy to dedicate to her greatest passion: the heptathlon. HER INFLUENCES Lake’s interest in competition began at an early age, thanks to her father, Eldon Lake, a former UK junior triple jump champion, who brought Lake to her first athletics club when she was just five years old. “I definitely think I was born into sport,” Lake says. “I went to my first meet when my mum was still pregnant with me, so track and field has always been very prominent in our family.“ As his daughter’s head coach, the elder
Lake helps guide the youngster through regional, national and now international competitions. This dedication has paid off, as Lake attributes her athletic achievements to a combination of hard work and family support. HER CHALLENGE Whether nature or nurture, Lake’s track and field potential was recognised early by her coaches. They viewed her diverse talents and interests as a natural fit for the heptathlon, which consists of seven events: the long jump, high jump, javelin throw, shot put, 200-meter sprint, 800-meter sprint and 100-meter hurdles. Then, like now, the range of events excited Lake. “Training for seven different events breaks up the routine and makes it more enjoyable,” she says. “I like the variety of training for jumps one day and throws the next. Balancing training sessions can be tough, but it’s rewarding to be able to do it all.” Throughout her teens, Lake continued to compete in events across the country and around the world. Two years ago she broke the UK under-17 high jump record, and last year she broke both the UK junior high jump record and the World junior pentathlon record. Her success continued in 2014 at the World Junior Championship in Eugene, Oregon, where she became the first British athlete to win a double gold in the competition. HER LIFE To balance her intense athletic schedule, Lake employs a work-hard, play-hard philosophy. She offsets long training sessions with her choice of creative outlets: arts and fashion — and when she’s home, quality time with friends and family. She has also developed a passion for photography, inspired by the worldwide travels her sport requires. Whilst on the road, Lake uses her camera to capture memories and moments that she shares with loved ones

I don’t see my friends as much as I’d like, but I love what I do.” HER FUTURE Lake’s athletic and personal lives combine as she prepares for her first World Championships in Beijing in August, followed by the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020. However, instead of looking too far into the future, she focuses on the day’s workout or next step; whether it’s setting a personal best, breaking a world record or placing in the next competition. “I think more about short-term goals,” she clarifies. “I see breaking records as stepping stones towards my future goals. Although it’s only next year, 2016 feels ages away. This year it’s the World Championships and then it goes from there.”
GETTING TO KNOW MORGAN LAKE Favorite heptathlon event: The high jump, definitely. It gives me the feeling of flight! Best advice you’ve received: Do what you love. Favorite sport outside of track and field: Tennis. Hardest workout: 300-meter sprints with a 45-second recovery. Favorite Nike shoes: Nike Air Max 1 Ultra Tokyo. Good luck charm: Eating popcorn before an event.

espite the scorching temperatures of a Dubai summer, Nike are encouraging athletes to push themselves to new limits with the launch of their innovative new Midnight Mile Series. Following the announcement of the Find Your Fast Campaign, which inspires everyday athletes to run their fastest time this summer, the Midnight Mile Series, is a special collection of summer events to motivate runners to beat their personal best whilst beating the heat. The Series, which kicked off in July of this year and will continue for a 5-week period, gives runners the chance to meet every Thursday at 12am in various locations across Dubai to try and run their fastest time. “Nike Running is all about inspiring everyone to get better and faster. Everyone can run a mile but how fast can you do it? This summer, we invite you to join in the ‘Find Your Fast’ challenge and break your own personal record. ay “Rio 2016”, and every competitive swimmer knows what you’re talking about. It’s the pinnacle, the goal they all work towards, with plans that started in 2012 and build incrementally towards that dream – an Olympic gold medal. Some have been there, shedding tears of pride and joy on the Olympic podium, and they’re hooked, they want to be back there again. Others gave everything they had, but fell just short, often deprived by mere hundredths of a second. And so it’s back to the drawing board, crafting plans, milestones and tactics to get them there, as they fly towards their dream. This is the business and the passion of every member of Arena’s Elite Team of swimmers. Whether they’ve tasted success or not, they are all on the same track, putting in countless hours in the pool and the gym in the quest for the chance to mount that top podium in Rio. But despite the fact that preparations for champions and near-champions during the four-year Olympic cycle may have similarities, it’s tempting to wonder if past champions approach the build-up from a motivational perspective in the same way as those that are still striving for their first title. In order to find out, a number of the top athletes from the Arena Elite Team, along with a family member or coach, were posed several questions, and here’s what they had to say.
