Upper School Credit Courses

Grades: Rising grades 9–10 Session A: June 7-23, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Session B: July 24-Aug 11, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Class Fee: $890

Upper School credit courses are open to all students seeking summer enrichment opportunities. St. Catherine’s students may take credit courses for advancement. Summer grades will not be used in the calculation of a student’s GPA; however, these courses will be recorded on the student’s transcript. Credit Class Attendance Policy Class attendance is very important because of the condensed nature of the courses. Each class period is considered to be one week’s worth of material. No more than one unexcused absence or two excused absences are allowed. If a student misses one day more than one unexcused absence, even if the second is excused, the student will risk forfeiting the course credit.

Creative Arts 3-Week Camp Full Course Descriptions

Rising Grades 4-6

Digital Media Art

Fun With Felt

Monet's Garden

Learn advanced candle making techniques and build upon established skills. Experiment with creative design methods by pouring wax into molds and glass containers, making candles from flat wax and even candles made with balloons.

Create art using the technology you already have. Use phones and computers to create surreal self-portraits, sound art and video art. Everything you need is in the palm of your hand!

Transform wool into animals, objects and jewelry using wet and needle felting techniques. Explore the many ways you can turn this fun medium into beautiful and unique artwork.

Bloom with inspiration as we study Claude Monet's garden and create colorful masterpieces based on his life and work in Giverny, France.

Explore the wonders of clay and learn traditional hand-building methods of clay construction. Using coil, slab and sculptural techniques, learn to texture, weave, carve and layer hand-built creations.

Alphabet Art

New!

Improve your lettering and calligraphy techniques through guided practice and clever activities designed to impress! By the end of this class you will be prepared to make great posters, unique gifts or your very own personalized stationery.

Animal Houses

New!

Create miniature animals with Sculpey polymer clay and then create a house for them. Don’t forget to include furniture, furnishings and maybe even food!

Artwork does not have to hang on a wall—it can be made for many purposes. Come and explore the usefulness of art to create pillows, magnets, chalkboards and more. Be creative and express yourself while making functional art for the house.

The Art of Paper

New!

Be inspired by the works of Henri Matisse. Using scissors, paper crimpers and papier-mâché, we will make a variety of fun paper projects that have rich, bright colors, fanciful patterns, elegant forms and graceful lines.

Get to Know van Gogh!

Learn the basics of holding the camera and selecting the proper modes. Experiment with framing, close-ups, composition and manual settings. All you need is a digital camera and the desire to take regular picture taking to the next level.

We will explore the subjects that caught the attention of van Gogh and base our art on his unique perspective and style.

Schedules & Carpool Assignments

Everyone gathers each Friday at the end of the camp day for Friday Frolics, a time for special events, performances or concerts. The carnivallike atmosphere is not only a great way to end the week but gives campers and staff a chance to get together and engage in competitive and artistic activities with an outdoor theme.

St. Catherine’s Brilliant Summer Program holds an evening Family Festival for parents and visitors on July 6 for Session One participants and July 27 for Session Two participants. The festivals are a culmination of the campers’ efforts and provide an opportunity for children to display their artwork and perform music, dance and theatre productions.

A final schedule confirming your child’s classes will be sent to you by June 1 with an orientation letter and carpool assignments. On the first day of each session, students will receive a laminated copy of their schedule on the back of their name tag to wear each day of camp.
