SERGEI PODOBEDOV AND DAVID BRAID IN CONCERT Sunday 21st July - £14/£18 London-based Russian virtuoso pianist, Sergei Podobedov, is joined by Welsh composer/guitarist, David Braid, on his return to the St. James Studio. They will present a brand-new programme, including the world premiere of their arrangement of the organ music of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, for piano and semi-acoustic guitar, together with the world premiere of Braid’s Sonata, Op. 19, for guitar and piano.

Victoria’s workmen down tools to rehearse a play for another royal wedding at the palace, lovers lose their way in St James’ Park and the fairies of the St James Theatre fly off the walls and into your hearts bringing a touch of glamour to the mayhem. VALENTIN AND SPECIAL GUESTS Tuesday 23rd July - £10/£12.50 VALENTIN is an international band, which creates a unique, energy-fuelled, vibrant musical blend – combining Jazz, Folk, Pop, Soul, Eastern European and Gypsy influences. Valentin’s songs exude energy, warmth, humour, and soulful storytelling. Tonight’s launch of Valentin’s new band and imminent studio album will feature special guests.

Rachel’s first ever solo concert in London at the St James will promote her debut album “The Reason” which is released on Big Hand Recordings on July 22nd.


BARB JUNGR: BOB DYLAN Friday 26th July - £18/£20 Barb Jungr sings Bob Dylan – Jungr’s superb take on Dylan is a cult classic and her signature work. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO LALA SHOCKETTE? Saturday 27th July - £15/£17.50 “LaLa Shockette” (Welsh singer actress Lowri-Ann Richards) helped form a band called Shock – complete with 80’s hair and wardrobe. She toured the world, played at Wembley, and found dizzying Top Ten stardom with band Tight Fit. The downfall was tough. Welsh soap opera, Victorian musical hall and an annoyingly talented daughter! With humour, music and video clips, she asks, and answers the tragi-comic question: “Whatever happened to LaLa Shockette?”. Directed by Stuart Saint and Dan Poole.

THE WIT AND WHIMSY OF ALEXANDER S. BERMANGE WITH SPECIAL GUESTS JULIE ATHERTON AND CASSIDY JANSON Sunday 28th July - £17.50/£20 Known for his many comic songs for BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service (not to mention his numerous stage musicals), Alexander and his guest West End leading ladies perform his best-loved - and some brand new - comedic musical creations, from the intriguing oddities of He Left Me For My Granny, I’ve Fallen In Love With A Sheep and A Trainspotter’s Tale to tongue-twisting patter songs about the frustrations caused by technology and automated telephone answering systems. THE LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL JOE STILGOE celebrating 100 years of Hollywood Sunday 17th Nov Check website for details This show, specially devised for the LJF, sees pianist, singer and songwriter Joe Stilgoe pay tribute to 100 years of Hollywood cinema through the music that aided and abetted its legend. From An American in Paris to The Apartment, from Casablanca to Catch Me If You Can, Joe and his remarkable band perform songs written for, and inspired by, some of the greatest films over the last century, focusing on those that pushed the popularity of jazz and the standards of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Ivor Novello.

CAROL GRIMES/ ANITA WARDELL/ MARK JENNET AND FRIENDS Wednesday 20th Nov - £15 (Hosted by Dorian Ford) We invite back three of our favourite artists from our jazz and roots season to play this LJF gig, celebrating London voices. Three unique singers, who all built their careers here, share the stage. London blues legend Carol Grimes, is joined by supreme songstress Anita Wardell, and master storyteller Mark Jennett; plus the stellar rhythm section of jazz and roots host and pianist Dorian Ford, bassist Neville Malcolm, and everyone’s favourite drummer, Winston Clifford; and guests. Each celebrating new releases, expect stunning individual sets and barn storming joint numbers.
