LONDON F E S T I VA L O F AMERICAN MUSIC 10th - 14th Nov Lontano’s Biennial Festival, created in 2006, explores and celebrates the work of major American composers and reflects the diversity of style that is so characteristic of contemporary American music today. The festival programme is put together by Lontano’s Music Director, Odaline de la Martinez is one of Britain’s most dynamic and gifted musicians and the first woman to conduct a complete BBC Prom at the Royal Festival Hall.

AMERICAN MUSIC FOR PIANO AND VIOLIN Monday 10 November £15 / £18 Solo pianist Clelia Iruzun is one of the most exciting musicians to emerge in the international scene in recent years. THE WONDERFUL MUSIC OF SCOTT JOPLIN AND THE RAGTIME MASTERS Saturday 15 November £17.50 / £20 In the late 1890’s, the syncopation, cross beats and hand clapping of black music, grew into “ragged rhythmic patterns” called Ragtime. NOIR Tuesday 18 November | £25 / £35 Americans have penned some of the world’s finest examples of ‘Noir’, a genre of fiction characterized by cynicism, fatalism, and moral ambiguity. Hear a brilliant cast of actors bring to life some extraordinary stories penned by such contemporary authors as Joyce Carol Oates and TC Boyle, and classic masters such as Dashiell Hammett and David Goodis, accompanied by Derek Nash on Sax. A one-off performance, this is a concert not to be missed. Ms. Rohe, winner of two Independent Music Awards, has “a unique musical voice that sounds like a love song for a world imperiled” (Albany Times Union). Mr. Scheuer is the writer/performer of the musical The Lion, “the best original musical of the year” (Mark Shenton, The Stage), and “plays the guitar like it’s an extension of himself” (Time Out).

THE WONDERFUL MUSIC OF MILES DAVIS, JOHN COLTRANE & CANNONBALL ADDERLEY Saturday 29 November £17.50 / £20 Miles Davis on trumpet was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century. He was at the forefront of bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. This program will feature songs from Judy’s newest CD “I Love Being Here With You” including compositions by Peggy Lee, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and Gershwin. In his Mayfair flat, Noël Coward uses his latest creation, Madam Arcati, the visionary medium, to summon up voices that tell of the enduring spirit of Christmas through the ages. Join The Master for a bittersweet festive journey, told through song, poetry and prose, from across the centuries and across the world.
