GENERAL INFORMATION Enrollment is open to all children four years old by September 1, 2018. Please register for camps according to the grade your child will enter in the fall of 2018. Children who are enrolled for full-day camps or for both morning and afternoon camps will need to bring a sack lunch (unless on a camp field trip). Campers will have a supervised lunch and recess period from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Please be mindful that Summer at St. John’s is a nut-sensitive camp program. All snacks provided by the camp are nut-free and campers staying for lunch may not bring any food containing peanuts or tree nuts. Before and after camp care is available to accommodate busy summer schedules. Full week before/after care is available for sign-up during the online registration process. Before and after camp care is also available as a drop-in for $10 per care session. This may be arranged by emailing summer@stjohnsschool.org or calling the summer office at 214.328.9131 x116. Summer at St. John’s reserves the right to limit camp enrollment size and/or cancel camps if minimum enrollment is not met. Reimbursement for cancelled camps will be paid in full. If you find it necessary to cancel your child’s camp registration, refunds will be provided according to the following procedure:

• A full refund, less administrative processing fee of $50, will be provided if cancellation occurs prior to two weeks in advance of the commencement of the camp session.

• Fifty percent of the camp fee will be refunded if requested in writing prior to one week before the commencement of the camp session.

• No refund will be made within one week of the commencement of the camp session.

Learn to write, record, perform and edit an original short film with fellow campers! You will also create individual short films from multiple genres: comedy, drama, horror, etc… Be a film sensation!

FIRST TEE GOLF

Experience the joy of working with your hands as you build a soprano or tenor ukulele, dulcimer, violin or campfire mandolin with Mr. Delabano. At the end of camp, take home a beautifully crafted stringed instrument, as well as an instrument songbook. You’ll also have a basic understanding of how to play your handmade instrument. First-time campers should start with the ukulele; those who have already taken the camp may make a dulcimer, violin or mandolin.

Looking for a way to escape the heat? Hurry! Hurry! We have eggs to beat! The oven will be warm, and you’ll be glad. A lip-smacking good time is sure to be had! Whip on in to our kitchen for Camp I-Can-Cook! We will make a full meal each day and master chefs will work on many other creative projects as well. Each camper will leave with a cookbook full of recipes and an excitement for new culinary adventures.

COLORFUL CRITTERS: PASTEL PAINTING AND DRAWING Young Rembrandts K-5th Afternoons $225 Animal lovers rejoice; an all-new, all-pastel painting workshop is here! Pastels are a “dry” paint that allow campers to use techniques similar to painting. Learn pastel drawing and texturing techniques to illustrate whimsical bees, a fanciful army of frogs, a striking owl and other animals with artistic detail. Explore your creativity through the world of pastels.

DISCOVER MAGIC: GREEN WAND Dal Sanders 2nd-8th Mornings $230 The Dallas Magic Academy offers three different magic camps at Summer at St. John’s for 2018 – purple wand, green wand and orange wand. Each camp features new and different magic tricks and may be taken in any sequence. LEGO TECHNIC: SPECIAL FORCES Jack Nelson 1st-8th Mornings $225 “Be all you can be,” when you build and modify remotelycontrolled and motorized LEGO Technic military vehicles. Race your Hummer through an obstacle course, navigate hostile waters in your Navy Destroyer, dodge enemy fire in your Bearcat F8F fighter aircraft, attack with your UH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter, and blow them away with your customized M1 Abrams Tank! CAMP INSTRUCTOR BIOS Tony Adler has taught middle school English at St. John’s for the past three years. Before that, he was a middle school English teacher and coach at The Greenhill School. Herminio Baez has been teaching chess for 30 years. Mr. Baez teaches chess classes and coaches chess teams at schools throughout the metroplex. Susan Benton has taught pre-k for 22 years, 18 of which she has spent at St. John’s. She leads a variety of summer camps for our young campers. Jan Breed has been at St. John’s for the past three years after working for many years as a kindergarten teacher and administrator in Georgia. Monica Breeding has been teaching early childhood since 1989. Ms. Breeding is an alumna of St. John’s and has been teaching our pre-k students for the past eight years. Clay Buckley is completing his second year as a middle school social studies teacher and coach at St. John’s after several years as a teacher and coach in Richardson ISD. Katie Burkhead has taught kindergarten at St. John’s for the past four years. Before that, she taught third grade in Ft. Worth. She is a Dallas native and a TCU graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Challenge Island® is a program where engineering meets imagination! She and her husband are longtime members of St. John’s Episcopal Church and are in the process of raising their six children, who never cease to amaze them. Rebecca Crouse is the fourth grade math and science teacher at St. John’s. She graduated from Austin College with a degree in psychology and a Master of Arts in teaching. Dal Sanders of Dallas Magic Academy has been a professional magician and magic teacher for almost 40 years and has performed across the United States and overseas with his wife Cinde. They are the hosts of the nationally syndicated television show KARTOON CIRCUS where they perform magic for the live studio audience as well as the television viewers. Dal is a past president of the Society of American Magicians. Devin Darnell has taught at St. John’s for the past three years where he also coaches flag football and basketball. Devin has previously coached college basketball, high school football and basketball, and middle school football, basketball, track and cross-country. Kellie Day is a first grade teacher at St. John’s. Ms. Day has a degree in English and a master’s degree in teaching from Austin College. She loves singing, reading books, watching movies, and playing soccer. She is excited to join the Summer at St. John’s staff this year! Martin Delabano is an alumnus who teaches fifth through eighth grade art at St. John’s. He is a professional, exhibiting artist and also builds and plays ukuleles, mandolins and guitars. Josh Del Regno has worked at St. John’s since 2013 in the After School Program and has been the Technology Integration Specialist for the past three years. Danielle Dupuis is an 11-year teaching veteran from the Kessler School. She believes in integrating cooperative structures, literacy and Multiple Intelligences pedagogy into her lessons to ensure all students engage in and enjoying learning. Fast Forward Kids has been a leading provider of summer programs for children for more than 20 years. Higher-order thinking skills in the areas of math, science, reading and social development are implemented in fun and exciting ways. Rebecca Freyenberger is completing her first year as a St. John’s physical education teacher and advisor. She earned a teaching degree in Physical Education and School Health and has a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science and Athletic Training. She is excited to be sharing her love of the outdoors, games and physical activity. Tracey Gonzales has assisted in pre-k for eight years at St. John’s. She loves watching children explore and learn new things. Thor Herrin, a St. John’s teacher for the past 11 years, is a St. John’s alumnus. He currently teaches fifth grade English and coaches middle school volleyball. Jean Haynes is the fourth through eighth grade music teacher at St. John’s. She is an avid seamstress and loves to help children make the connection between music skills and keyboarding skills to improve education in a relaxed, fun manner. HTK, Inc. (High Tech Kids) is a family-owned small business that has been sparking the imaginations of young inventors since 1993. High Tech Kids combines technology with the inquisitiveness of children to create summer camps full of innovation and joy. Cindy Isbell has been teaching for 22 years and is currently in her 16th year at St. John’s. She teaches third grade and coaches middle school sports. Mrs. Isbell has led many excursion camps for Summer at St. John’s. It’s Breathtaking is a Red Cross certified provider of First Aid and CPR instruction that conducts training for adolescents and adults throughout the Dallas metroplex.

CAMP INSTRUCTOR BIOS Jayme Johnson is the head of lower school at St. John’s. She is passionate about creating engaging and interactive educational environments where children can harness their natural curiosity as they question, create, discover, and explore. Tyler Jones is a member of the St. John’s After School Program staff and a lover of science, LEGO, and kids. He is excited to join our Summer at St. John’s staff. Tania Kader is an After School Program staff member and has been a member of the Summer at St. John’s staff for the past three years. Donna Knox has taught art and served as a pre-k aide at St. John’s for the past six years. She is passionate about helping our local community and is excited to share her passion with middle school students. Ashley Leake is a former lower school classroom teacher. She is currently a St. John’s middle school parent, language arts tutor, and lower school math club sponsor. Little Scholars works with Dallas area young children, providing fun academic enrichment programs for young children who delight in new ways to explore the wonders of our world. Trish Lopez is an experienced educator with a B.S. in leadership and a Master’s of Public Affairs. She owns an educational company that works with students of all ages. Ms. Lopez loves to teach young children through hands-on learning and fun activities. Morgan Martinez is the pre-k/kindergarten Spanish teacher at St. John’s. She has taught at St. John’s for six years and enjoys participating in Summer at St. John’s. Laura May is a veteran teacher who joined St. John’s as a second grade teacher this year. She is eager to join in the fun at Summer at St. John’s. Megan Nasser is the lower school music teacher at St. John’s. Megan loves to share her passion for serving the community with middle school students. Mary Odom teaches middle school English at St. John’s. When not teaching and reading, Mrs. Odom loves to cook, and especially bake, for family and friends. Oil and Cotton offers hands-on art classes taught by art professionals with knowledge of traditional and contemporary techniques. Our campers engage in the expressive languages of both music and visual art. Tom Parr is the integrated drama specialist for St. John’s. He is also a professional theatre director in the Dallas area. Kathryn Potter is a middle school math teacher and advisor at St. John’s. She enjoys crafting, dancing and helping middle school kids enjoy life. Jennifer Powers is the librarian at St. John’s. She loves to explore new places for children to have adventures and lots of fun. Sew Fun Studios makes the art of sewing relevant and exciting to the modern kids of today. Kids leave camp with a new life skill, one-of-akind projects, and a sense of pride through creating something fun and useful with their own hands! Katie Specht is a St. John’s alumna and is a second grade teacher at St. John’s. Katie has worked with Summer at St. John’s for the past nine years. Sportkinetics is a sports and physical education organization providing camps for children ages 3-13. All Kidokinetics programs are designed to inspire children to participate in health and fitness related activities in a non-competitive environment. Studio Bella is a S.T.E.A.M.-based studio that focuses on problem solving, higher-level thinking and creativity. Tammy Bardwell, an awardwinning designer with a degree in education and a master’s degree in design, founded Studio Bella ten years ago. Studios of Sarah Strout is a music studio located in the heart of Lakewood offering group and private lessons in all instruments to all ages. The studio also offers private lessons to students at St. John’s during and after school. Micah Sudbury has a degree in education and has taught school for eight years. In 2010, Micah started the education company, Keyboard Kids. It is Micah’s passion to help young children grow in positive ways. Eric Telzrow is the 4th grade language arts teacher at St. John’s in his 12th year of teaching. He enjoys playing volleyball, board games, the outdoors and music you can really dance to! He is excited to join the Summer at St. John’s teaching staff. Tippi Toes is a dance company for boys and girls ages 1 ½ - 10 years that promotes self-confidence and healthy habits. Tippi Toes focuses on the basics of dance technique, music, movement and balance. The music in our classes is fun, kid-friendly popular music along with Tippi Toes Dance Company® original music. Father John Thorpe is a father, chef, musician and chaplain for the children at St. John’s School. He is excited to share his love of cooking and eating food, playing music and all things Star Wars! Jacques Vroom has spent more than 45 years as a visual/creative professional, working with The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Neiman Marcus, Horchow, Williams Sonoma, and WGBH television. He is also a long-time substitute teacher at SJES. John Walker, who serves as dean of students and athletic director at St. John’s, co-leads several destination camps with Mrs. Isbell. He has been teaching and working at St. John’s for 24 years. Young Rembrandts teaches basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. Experienced art instructors use a systematic method that ensures every student is a creative success.
