Hello Bloodhound Friends and Families, On behalf of the teaching staff and students of Saint Joseph Academy, let me extend sincere greetings and thank you for your unwavering support and generosity. Our mission of being a college preparatory school that forms "young men and women who will succeed in university studies, who know and love Jesus, and who actively participate in the worship and mission of the school" is instrumental in the formation of future doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs, teachers, engineers, and such. Your support is helping us fulfill that mission.
As an alumna, parent of three graduates, teacher, and now principal, I firmly believe in all that Saint Joseph Academy represents. Our academic and extracurricular offerings in a faith-filled environment separates us from the rest. At SJA we offer students an extraordinary, student-centered experience that focuses on critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication, which allows for our students to excel in college and their careers. It is a place where students are not just numbers and do not get lost. We get to know our students and work collaboratively with our families to help students accomplish their goals.

Athletic Booster Club Thanks to the SJA Athletic Booster Club, “Take me out to the Ballgame” can be sung loud and proud from the SJA Baseball field as the Bloodhounds play ball on their newly renovated baseball field. Also, this year, the Athletic Booster Club renovated the SJA tennis courts with the help of their sponsor, the Del Pozo families. These two projects have made a significant impact for St. Joe athletics.
The SJA Athletic Booster Club is comprised of dedicated, sports loving, parents who work tirelessly all year on various projects to benefit the athletic programs. They raise funds by selling ads for the Athletic Program Book, selling concessions at all home sporting events, planning and executing the Taste of the Town event, and their annual basketball tournament and BBQ plate dinner. With the proceeds from these activities and events, the Athletic Booster Club helps provide vital financial support to sustain and strengthen the various SJA athletic programs. The Booster Club has made a concerted effort to support each sport with special needs, such as equipment, new technology, etc. The Athletic Booster Club would like to thank all those who help support SJA athletics, especially Tipton Motors who each year donates all the food for the BBQ plate dinner fundraiser.

Taste of The Town As the stars shined above and lights twinkled in the trees under the soft moonlight, the community of friends and family of Saint Joseph Academy came together for an evening filled with delectable food from local restaurants around the Rio Grande Valley, full bodied wines to sample from various regions of the world, and camaraderie with one another.
The annual Taste of the Town is hosted by the SJA Athletic Booster Club as their primary fundraiser to support their yearly initiatives. This year, the Athletic Booster Club thanks the Event Sponsor, Dr. Gregory and Nadine Smith for their contribution in supporting Taste of the Town.
Each year, the Athletic Booster Club honors a special person who gives of their time, love and support for athletics at St. Joe. This year, the Athletic Booster Club was proud to give tribute to Jeff Gowen with the Ring of Honor award. Mr. Gowen has been a tremendous asset to the school serving in many capacities such as Student Council moderator, golf coach, and longtime swim coach, leading the boys team to a 2nd place finish in TAPPS. You can see him at any given football game on the sidelines, or you might hear him announcing the football and baseball games. Mr. Gowen joins the many honorees with this prestigious award.

PAWS (Parents at work) PAWS (Parents at Work) has completed its third year at Saint Joseph Academy. Under the direction of its Board of Directors, President – Elizabeth Harris ‘86; Vice President – Wichis Diez ‘88; Secretary – Kari Greer; and Treasurer – Elizabeth Bernus ’85, the group provided support and hospitality at multiple St. Joe events during this past school year.
Through funds raised by PAWS annual ‘Tis the Season Holiday Market Days and Girls’ Night Out events, several special projects were accomplished. To improve the beautification of the campus, all the school’s parking lots and drive ways were re-striped, and curbs were painted for that fresh, new look. SJA Department Chairs and Club Moderators were offered the opportunity to apply for mini-grants through PAWS to help support their efforts in the work that they do for the school and the students. PAWS is proud to announce that five mini-grants were awarded to the following: •

Office of Academy Advancement was awarded $600.00 for the purchase of a laptop computer to be used at special events and for on-going projects within the department. Office of the President was awarded $1,000.00 for the purchase of marketing and hospitality needs such as tables, Step and Repeat banner, linens,etc. These items will be used for school receptions, award ceremonies, graduation, etc.
Active Minds was awarded $750.00 to purchase materials in support of their “Stress Less” week. Active Minds will hold assemblies and plan activities to introduce topics of mental health and spread awareness about coping with stress and anxiety. Religion Studies Department was awarded $800.00 to purchase new bibles for the Middle School religion classes. Bloodhound Ambassadors were awarded $600.00 to purchase a retractable pop- up banner and table cloth with their club logo for school events.

Style Show As the lights dimmed and the curtains opened, vibrations were felt throughout the auditorium as the students of Saint Joseph Academy took to the stage with The Sounds of Motown for the 63rd annual Style Show.
As is the long-standing tradition at St. Joe, the Senior Class of 2019 dazzled the audience as they modeled today’s latest fashion from local retailers such as Layers the Boutique, The Tux Shop, The Boot Jack and Dillard’s and danced to the beat of Motown legends such as Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five and The Chiffon’s.
A new tradition at the SJA Style Show incorporated grade level dances that had the audience bobbing in their seats when the Middle Division students danced to Rocking Robin, and the Freshmen moved to Rock the Boat. Special appearances by Diana Ross and The Supremes along with The Temptations (aka members of the Sophomore and Junior classes) graced the stage singing legendary songs by these popular artists.
The audience was blown away by the finale as the Class of 2019 closed the show dancing throughout the auditorium to Dancing in the Streets by Motown artist’s, Martha and the Vandellas. As the house lights came up at the end of the show, we gave thanks to the choreographers who gave countless hours of their time to the students as they choreographed the stunning routines. We thanked the students for their participation, as they rehearsed two and three times a week late into the night and on weekends for five straight weeks. We thanked the parents and families for their attendance and support of the event. Finally, we thanked the volunteers, especially the general Chairpersons, Karla Garza and Elizabeth Holzman and the Production Chair, Ofelia Montemayor for the hundreds of hours they put into the show ensuring its success. The SJA Style Show is the highest grossing event for the school each year.
