OUTREACH OF THE MONTH NEPAL EARTHQUAKE RELIEF

Luke 24:13-35 Kathy Armington

Luke’s Lodge

On April 25, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake – the most powerful in 81 years – hit just west of the ancient Nepali capital of Kathmandu, killing more than 6,200 people. Thousands more are still missing. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) plans to assist in relief efforts in cooperation with international and local partners. UMCOR approved a $90,000 grant to GlobalMedic, which will provide survivors with household and public waterfiltration units. All five UMC missionaries in the area were safe. Find a story by missionaries Mark and Deirdre Zimmerman, who serve in Kathmandu at http://www. umcmission.org/Learn-About-Us/News-and-Stories (scroll down for “The Day of the Nepal Earthquake.”) Throughout May, St. Luke’s will receive an offering to support the Nepal earthquake relief effort. Please make checks out to St. Luke’s UMC, and add “Nepal Relief” in the memo line of the check, or on the offering envelope.
