* LITANY of the PROPHET Joel 2 (selected verses) Leader: Blow the trumpet in Zion; Sound an alarm on my holy mountain! People: Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the Lord is coming, it is near – Leader: Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart. With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; Rend your hearts and not your clothing. People: Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, And relents from pushing. Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind him, A grain-offering and a drink-offering for the Lord, your God? Leader: Blow the trumpet in Zion; Sanctify a fast; People: Call a solemn assembly; gather the people; Sanctify the congregation. * standing, as able

CALL to REPENTANCE & UNISON PRAYER of CONFESSION Holy God, in the light of your holiness we see ourselves as we really are. We confess that we are people of impure thoughts and unclean lips; We think too highly of ourselves and too little of others. We cling so tightly to the treasures of this world That we cannot open our hands to receive blessings from above. Our feet follow the paths of sin; we wander so far astray that we become strangers to righteousness. Forgive us, and set us again on the path that leads to life. Deal with us not as we deserve, but according to your mercy; Not because we are worthy but because you are gracious. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
