TRADITIONAL ORDER OF WORSHIP Preludes | Michael Conley, piano Welcome and Call to Worship | Rev. Rob Fuquay Leader: We come today to worship a God who calls us to grow and mature. All: Help us be a church that welcomes growth. Leader: We come today to worship a God who is not static, but calls us forward to address the changes around us. All: Help us be a church that welcomes change. Leader: We come today to worship a God who calls us to respond in love to the challenges of our time. All: Help us be a church that welcomes challenge. Opening Hymn | Guide Me, O Though Great Jehovah #127 Affirmation of Faith: The Apostle's Creed | Dr. Regina Proctor Leader: Please join me in reciting the oldest and most well-known affirmation of faith of the Church, the Apostle's Creed. All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Glory to God Anthem | Faithful Witness | Samuel Preiswerk & Stephanie S. Taylor | Chancel Choir; Dr. Jeff Rogers, director Prayer of Confession/Assurance | Dr. Regina Proctor All: Oh God, you love us as we are, but you don't leave us as we are. You call us to be transformed. You call us to live outside ourselves, and to follow you more faithfully each day. We confess to you that we often fail to grow closer to you, grow together as a church, and grow in our faith and actions. Help us to humble ourselves to the point where we are willing to be transformed. Renew our desire to follow you as we silently confess our sins to you now. (Silent Confession) Leader: Hear the good news: in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. As forgiven people, we are called to be faithful witnesses as we grow together in our faith and share the love and hope of Jesus Christ. Prayer Time and the Lord’s Prayer | Dr. Regina Proctor Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Announcements | Rev.
