State of the Church Taking St. Luke’s to the Next Level
Outreach Focus of the Month Vida Nueva UMC 2801 W. Washington St.
Vida Nueva Ministries is a thriving congregation on the West side of Indianapolis ministering to immigrant families in the surrounding Hispanic community. Vida Nueva Ministries believes first-generation Hispanic immigrant families should know and experience the love and hope of Christ. In the past, St. Luke’s has partnered with Vida Nueva on Servant Day and helping with their food pantry. One of Vida Nueva’s thriving programs is called Discover Indianapolis, a summer program for children.Discover Indianapolis helps first-generation
immigrants explore areas of Indianapolis like the Tea Room at the Indiana Museum, take trips to the IMA or use paddle boats on the Canal. Vida Nueva UMC, led by Rev. David Penalva, reaches out in ministry as well. Members serve at E. 10th St. United Methodist Church on Saturday evenings offering programs to the Hispanic community on the east side. Their mission is to minister to E.10th St. UMC families and build relationships. Please help continue this ministry by either donating toward the $12,000 monthly budget or by making yourself available to serve alongside this community teaching GED classes, ENL classes or by working at the thrift and food pantry. Stop by the Outreach Post in the West Passage for information or email outreach@ stlukesumc.com or place a check in the offering with “Vida Nueva” in the memo. Thank you for helping support one of the Indiana Conference’s important ministries.

Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 8, 9:15 & 10:45AM Sermon: State of the Church Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:5, 7-12 NRSV For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake. But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.
Search the class name at www.stlukesumc.com, visit the Adult Ministries West Passage information table.
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies. For while we live, we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be made visible in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you.
Watch for Attendance Pads Next Sunday At St. Luke’s we want to stay connected – to God and to each other. That’s why you will soon find attendance pads on each pew, courtesty of our Care Team. Returning to a practice we once used at St. Luke’s, we hope to help the congregation: • Get to know each other by name • Let our Care Team know who is here, and who may need a check-in call Your participation matters. Thanks in advance!
