Each week, we will invite your group to try a different spiritual practice together. This week’s practice is spiritual journaling/Lectio Divina. The oldest and best-known approach to Bible reading is called “spiritual reading” or Lectio Divina and dates back to the fourth century. The process is simple. 1) Read, finding a word or phrase that speaks to you in the scripture passage, 2) Reflect, letting that word or phrase sink into your heart, 3) Respond with a prayer, opening a written dialog with God, 4) Rest, allowing the word or phrase to work itself into you, and savor the encounter with God’s truth and love. Today: Try this practice with today’s scripture passage. This week: Devote 5-10 minutes to this practice. You may journal your reflection. Before you begin your time of discussion, read this week’s Scripture passage 2-3 times, using the process of Lectio Divina to shape your hearing of the text. For more information on these spiritual practices, please contact Rev. Regina Proctor (proctorr@stlukesumc.com).
