Each week, we will invite your group to try a different spiritual practice together. This week’s practice is fasting. Jesus teaches us about the practice of fasting in Matthew 6:16. For thousands of years many have found fasting to be a useful, even powerful, spiritual exercise. Fasting is an act that declares that we rely on God—not on ourselves. This week: Consider skipping one or two meals and devote the time you’d normally spend preparing the food, eating it, and cleaning up afterwards to prayer. Or, consider fasting from technology for a given time in order to create space for quiet and connection with God. Next week let your group members know of your experience as you discuss the reflections of fasting. For more information on these spiritual practices, please contact Rev. Regina Proctor (proctorr@stlukesumc.com).
