HEALTH MINISTRY Blood Pressure Screening

Blood Drive

Stop by C110 on Sunday, June 12, 9-11AM for a free blood pressure screening. Please refrain from smoking or caffeine thirty minutes prior to your screening. Sponsored the second Sunday of every month by St. Luke’s Health Ministries.

The Indiana Blood Center is proud of the donors at St. Luke's for helping it provide a safe, stable supply of blood products for the critically ill people of Indiana. Our next drive will be Sunday, July 17, in N101-102. Please consider donating in honor of someone you might know who is ill. Never donated before? The staff will make it easy for you. Not only does the Center provide blood products, but it is involved in the community of Indianapolis through United Way, Komen Foundation, The 500 Festival Foundation and other community groups. This year the Center has been recognized as a Green Business by the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.

Blessing of the Bikes

Sunday, June 5, 6PM, Robertson Chapel. Bringing back the “Best of the Best” – guest artists Dr. Eric Yancy, Direct Connect Latin Jazz Band, Keith Hayes and the Later Band and Vocals. Reception immediately following.

Our Second Annual Blessing of the Bikes will be held Sunday, June 12 at 6PM in Robertson Chapel. All bikers are to arrive one hour prior to the event. The Blessing of the Bikes is an unconventional service designed to spread the good news to those who may not like coming to church. It is a great way to raise awareness for bike enthusiasts inside and outside of our church, to help bikers to feel warm and welcome, and it is a good way for us to meet and serve in ministry among new people.

Good Preaching - Good Singing There is more good preaching and good singing coming your way. Come hear Rev. Robert Matthews and his lovely wife, Georgia Matthews, an anointed gospel singer. They are the brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Dr. Marion Miller, from New Hope Church located in Memphis, TN. Join us on Sunday, June 26 at 6PM in Robertson Chapel for an unforgettable evening.

Wear your usual cycle clothing and bring your bike (or skates or non-motorized scooter). The worship will start at 6PM with great music, but we recommend coming early if you want to see the bikes. The actual blessing of the bikes will take place outside at the main entrance of the church. After worship and the blessing, there will be a meal served for a small donation of $5. The rest of the evening is basically a motorcycle show and a ride. If you are interested in participating in this event as a biker or would like to purchase tickets, contact Chuck Miller at cjmiller50@comcast.net or Dr. Marion Miller at millerm@stlukesumc.com.

The June program will be in the Parlor. Dr. Adolph Hansen will be our featured speaker, discussing meaningful bible passages. Come learn from Dr. Hansen and participate in the discussion. Please call Jim Thorne at 255-8562 to RSVP. This will assist in planning and allow for the correct amount of food.

We've all heard the saying, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins . . ." Of course we know this is NOT true, and yet we also know that "toys" of all sorts have a fascination for guys. What is our obsession with technology about? What core desire does it seem to fill for guys? And how is the pace of "new technology" and the need to "keep up" shaping our families and lives today? Join us at the Rusty Bucket at 8:30PM on Wednesday, June 15 as we discuss these and other questions about the "other" Jesus. RSVP to Matt Roop at mroop@capcityfence.com or 538-5931.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN UMW Reading Group Imagine a 14-year-old boy who overcomes poverty and the biting jeers of village skeptics to build a windmill at his rural Malawi home—we'll learn a lot about William Kamkwamba and his indomitable will and curiosity, as well as life in rural Malawi, in June when we discuss The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. We will meet in the Parlor on Monday, June 27, from 7-8:30PM. Newcomers are always welcome. For information, contact Jennifer Todd at jtoddosu@aol.com.

Brick Sale

New Life Circle

Want to honor a loved one or celebrate a special occasion? Look for the UMW tables in both passages this month for information about ordering personalized bricks to add to the garden at Door 16 (outside of The Track). Bricks with two lines of personalization will be sold for $100 and a third line for just $20 more. The fundraising will go directly to helping the Capital Campaign. Be a part of St. Luke's history and get your brick today!

Attention single women... Has a friend turned his or her back on you? Has someone you loved betrayed you? We all have wounds and hurts that we carry for weeks, months and sometimes even years. Join Rev. Marsha Hutchinson for a night to explore what it means to carry "Luggage" on June 21 at 7PM in the Spiritual Life Center. It isn't always easy to forgive, and after a while, these hurts can get really heavy. Maybe forgiving isn't something you do for someone else to let them off the hook. Maybe forgiveness is about you. Come enjoy a relaxing evening of fun & fellowship as well as a very spiritual experience! You won't want to miss our last "official" get together before the summer hiatus. For additional information, call Nancy at 255-1226 or Cathy at 334-7821. New Life Circle is open to single, divorced, and widowed women of all ages.

Cookbook The UMW cookbook is still available for purchase in the main office during regular business hours. The cookbook contains over 500 recipes generously donated by members of the congregation, their family and friends. Cost $15; and the proceeds benefit various UMW sponsored organizations.

YOUTH MINISTRIES Register for any event at www.stlukesumc.com/youth. OUR MISSION: To welcome all youth and families into loving, Christ-centered relationships where they can get in tune with God's amazing love and be empowered to transform the world!

Youth Ministry Summer Overview During the summer months when many of our students are out of school, students are at camps, families are on vacations, and we are on mission trips, our youth ministry relaxes a little from our normal ministry schedule. Even though our ministry schedule changes, we find that it’s a great time for students to have the option of connecting to youth ministry in a more personal way. Summer time numbers are typically smaller, and students have the opportunity to check out the groups. Incoming sixth grade students are welcome in our Jr. High ministry. Incoming freshmen have the option of continuing throughout the summer in Jr. High or checking out the high school options. August 14 is the first Sunday where Freshmen will need to transition fully to Sr. High. Please take note of schedule changes that are listed; for more information always check out www.stlukesumc.com/ministries/youth.

GRIEF MINISTRIES (H.U.G.S.)—Healing Under Grief Support. When we lose a loved one, our highly competitive society often values the “quick fix” to keep up the frenzied pace and urges us to “get over it and move on.” However, in order to journey through the grief process with grace and healthy functioning, human beings need to take time to learn about grief and the factors that complicate our natural responses. It is important to find meaning in loss and to find connection with others who are walking the same journey.
