ST. LUKE'S SENIOR NEWSLETTER

I hope this message finds everyone doing well and feeling blessed as we begin to say goodbye to Summer and hello to the Autumn season, one of my favorite times of the year. I don’t know about you, but I am ready for Fall and everything that comes with it…the changing colors on the trees, the various smells and scents (my wife really loves this one), the crisp cool air, pumpkins and pumpkin pie, apple cider, and so much more. I’m reminded each year of God’s creation and the amazingness of what God has given us. I’m also reminded of the words to the old hymn, For the Beauty of the Earth, and I invite you to reflect on these words as well this season:

For the beauty of the earth

For the beauty of the skies

For the love which from our birth

Over and around us lies Gracious God, to thee we raise

This our sacrifice of praise

During our last gathering in August and over the last couple of months, we’ve had the pleasure of hearing from Pastor Rob who spoke about his Sabbatical and mountaintop experiences and how God spoke to him through these experiences. He will soon be starting a new sermon series, Making Room, and will invite us to reflect on God’s blessings, all that God has given us, and make room for additional blessings to flow, especially through the walls of St. Luke’s. Because we are a blessed people…let us continue to ask ourselves this season, how can we better serve (and bless) others through our gifts, our service, our presence, and our witness?

Our next Elderberries gathering will be held on Thursday, Oct 3, at 11:45am with lunch served at Noon. Location is Fellowship Hall and the cost is $6.00. Please RSVP to stlukesumc.com/Registration/elderberry. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Blessings,

Reading from Genesis

As we're reminded of the above-mentioned hymn, may we be mindful of these words from Genesis...that God is the creator of all things.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning the second day.

And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. -Genesis 1:1-10
