DEMENTIA CARE GIVERS SUPPORT GROUP

TUESDAY, MAY 2 AT 6PM • NORTH INDY - SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTER

This support group serves caregivers of those affected by memory loss, including Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Members of the church and community will find loving support, share resources, and encouragement along their journey. The facilitators of this support group are church members and have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Association. This group will meet the first Tuesday of each month through December. Critt Hunter spent 43 years teaching art to middle/secondary students and inmates in Kentucky prisons. Once he retired, he began to focus on his own art and was instantly accepted into juried exhibits and art fairs like the Hoosier Salon. He captures the beauty of nature with vibrancy and power.

HIGH SCHOOL HALF DAY RETREAT

The High School Ministry is taking a Saturday to hike, kayak, play games and spend intentional time welcoming current 8th graders into the HS Ministry at Eagle Creek! This is a great way for 8th graders to do their first HS activity and get to know some older students. Current high school students will enjoy this fun day with their peers. SOWERS: PLANT SALE

The Sowers have manicured their gardens, separated the perennials, organized extra plants and are ready to sell them. Come pick from our bounty before and after services on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Sower’s members will be there to answer basic questions on plant care. Proceeds go to upkeep and upgrades of the Sower’s Garden.

This week-long day camp gives middle schoolers (5th-8th grade) a chance to form new friendships, serve alongside their peers, learn more about faith in worship times designed specifically for them, and play all kinds of insane

games. This year’s theme is Medieval Mayhem! We will talk about what it means to us that Jesus is “king,” debunking the bad narratives we’ve heard of kings and learning about the selflessness of the kingdom Jesus talks about. Register at stlukesumc.com/students.

DEMENTIA FRIENDS INDIANA

SATURDAY, MAY 20 AT 10AM - ZOOM

The Dementia Friends Workshop seeks to build awareness of and break down stigmas surrounding various forms of dementia (Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Frontotemporal, Pick’s disease, vascular, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, mixed dementia, and more) and implement practical changes that make life easier to navigate for those with dementia and their loved ones. The goal is to help everyone in a community understand dementia, reduce the stigma, and make life easier for those with dementia and their caregivers. People with dementia need to be understood and supported in their communities. You can help by becoming a Dementia Friend. This event is limited to 12 participants. stlukesumc.com/events

FREEDOM SCHOOL

Freedom Schools are summer programs designed to increase literacy, self-esteem, socio-emotional skills, and a love of learning for children in elementary school. We disrupt the summer learning slide by keeping scholars engaged and stimulated. St. Luke’s is hosting its second Freedom School help children of Washington Twp. discover their potential and greatness, utilizing books and curricula that celebrate the cultures and contributions of people of color. Doing some spring cleaning? If you come across some gently used, but still in good condition, mobility aids, e.g., clean, gently used standard walkers, rolling walkers, rollators, single tip walking canes, quad canes, crutches, shower chairs/benches, please donate them to the new St. Luke’s “Lending Closet.” Mobility items can be borrowed to use while healing from a medical condition, and then returned after one’s healing is complete.
