TODAY’S SPECIAL EVENTS

MAY 12, 2013

The following is a list of events occuring today at St. Luke’s. For other events and upcoming information, pick up a COMMUNION MONTHLY, available at the end of the pews and at the Information Desk in the Narthex.

May Outreach of the Month The Rosebud, SD Native American Family Work Project is our May Outreach of the Month. St. Luke’s has traveled to Rosebud for the past seven years, where family teams have worked with the Lakota people through a variety of experiences. There are still a few spots left on this year’s trip, which takes place June 23-29 and is great for families with children who are at least seven years of age. For information on that trip, stop by the table in the Narthex this morning or come to an orientation meeting this Saturday, May 18 at 10AM in N101/102. Your financial contributions will support Tree of Life, which helps with school kits, winter coats, warm blankets and many other critical needs of the Rosebud Reservation. You may make a donation and place it in the offering basket (made payable to St. Luke’s with “Rosebud” on the memo line) or on our website. Thank you.

Mother’s Day Gift?

NEWS YOU CAN USE Summer Volunteers Needed The Track is looking for enthusiastic, energetic adults or older youth to give our school-year volunteers some time off, and to help the summer run smoothly for our preschool and elementary children. Consider a short-term commitment that could be tailored to your availability. To learn more, contact thetrack@stlukesumc.com.

Pancakes for Peru Next Sunday morning, May 19, our youth will be serving pancakes along with other breakfast items in the Great Hall in an effort to help our 32 students who are going to Peru on a work trip this summer, July 19-31. Freewill offerings will gladly be accepted to help cover their trip costs, as well as your prayers and support.

The Sowers are having their annual plant sale this morning in the West Passage between services. Come check out some great plants harvested from many of our personal gardens. The plants are mostly perennials, and proceeds help us to maintain the Sowers garden, Entrance 16 and the urns at the main entrance to St. Luke’s. The Sowers volunteer their time and talent to tend these areas, and both novice and experienced gardeners are welcome to join up. For more info, contact Gail Corn at 843-1244.

In order to help you form "green" habits, the Green Ministry is introducing a Green Habit of the Month. May's habit is E-Waste Recycling. Next Sunday, May 19, RecycleForce will have a truck parked in the front parking lot and will take anything with a cord. It is illegal in Indiana to throw this e-waste in the trash. Take advantage of this easy opportunity to get rid of e-waste next Sunday.

On Sunday morning, May 19, participate in a Sowers “grow and give” project. You get a tomato (aka “love apples”) plant to grow in your soil to water and nourish during the growing season. At harvest time, you give the produce to the Sowers to be donated to a local food pantry. For information on this project, contact Brandt Carter at 253-3222.
