TODAY’S SPECIAL EVENTS

JUNE 23, 2013

The following is a list of events occuring today at St. Luke’s. For other events and upcoming information, pick up a COMMUNION MONTHLY, available at the end of the pews and at the Information Desk in the Narthex.

Summer Outreach St. Luke’s Outreach has committed to partner with Nora, Fox Hill, Springmill and Greenbriar Elementary Schools to help connect with the 75% of their students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. That is over 2,000 students in the area surrounding the church. To address this need, St. Luke’s will be hosting the “Back to School Extravaganza” at our church August 4. This event will provide school supplies, clothing, food and other services to these children. This is a large undertaking . . . so we are asking you to get involved by sponsoring a child for $25 to get them the supplies they need, or you can pick up a supply list in the West Passage today (or find one at www.stlukesumc.com) and bring donations to the main office. If you work for a business that would like to participate, let us know and we will bring a collection bin to you! Contact Jamalyn Peigh Williamson at williamsonj@stlukesumc.com for more info.

Sign Up for Dinner & a Movie Enjoy an evening hosted by the Committee on Inclusion and Social Justice on Saturday, June 29 at 5:30PM in Fellowship Hall. Watch the award-winning movie “The Help” and enjoy a pitch-in dinner of southern favorites. Fried chicken and beverages provided. Sign up today in the West Passage, or at www.stlukesumc.com (search “the help”).

Summer Splash Registration Summer Splash – Kingdom Rock takes place July 22-26, 9AM-Noon for preschool children through those now completing 3rd grade. Register now at www.stlukesumc.com or in person this morning in the East Passage. There are options for older elementary and youth as well, and many adult volunteers are needed! Children who have completed kindergarten through 4th grade will attend the first part of worship with their families. After the Children’s Moment, they will be led by staff to a classroom for fun activities; pick up is in E106 or E108.

SCRIPTURE Acts 15:36-41 (NRSV) After some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Come, let us return and visit the believers in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.” Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul decided not to take with them one who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not accompanied them in the work. The disagreement became so sharp that they parted company; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas and set out, the believers commending him to the grace of the Lord. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
