TODAY’S SPECIAL EVENTS

JUNE 30, 2013

The following is a list of events occuring today at St. Luke’s. For other events and upcoming information, pick up a COMMUNION MONTHLY, available at the end of the pews and at the Information Desk in the Narthex.

Celebrating Julia’s Ministry This morning we celebrate Julia Skiles Johnson’s 25 years of ministry at St. Luke’s. Julia began working here on July 1, 1988 as the Director of Children’s Ministries. In addition to the faith memories she created for countless children and their families, Julia’s passion for ministry and leadership strengths have been instrumental in the creation of the buildings project resulting in the creation of this Sanctuary and new education and music space in 1999. She has been instrumental in five capital campaigns, a vital part of key leadership committees, a member of the Governing Board and the general go-to person for just about anything St. Luke’s related. Today we wish Julia and her husband, Bill, the best as Julia begins a new chapter in her life outside St. Luke’s. Stop by the table in the Narthex for a piece of cake and write a note to Julia.

Summer Outreach St. Luke’s Outreach has committed to partner with Nora, Fox Hill, Springmill and Greenbriar Elementary Schools to help connect with the 75% of their students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. That is over 2,000 students in the area surrounding the church. To address this need, St. Luke’s will be hosting the “Back to School Extravaganza” at our church August 4. This event will provide school supplies, clothing, food and other services to these children. This is a large undertaking . . . so we are asking you to get involved by sponsoring a child for $25 to get them the supplies they need, or you can pick up a supply list in the West Passage today (or find one at www.stlukesumc.com) and bring donations to the main office. If you work for a business that would like to participate, let us know and we will bring a collection bin to you! Contact Jamalyn Peigh Williamson at williamsonj@stlukesumc.com for more info.

Summer Splash Update Summer Splash: Kingdom Rock takes place July 22-26, 9AM-Noon for preschool children through those who have completed 3rd grade. Deadline to register your child is July 8 – you may register this morning in the East Passage or at www.stlukesumc.com. ***Volunteers Needed! We are currently in short supply of adult volunteers to serve as Crew Leaders. If you love children and have the time, please consider lending a loving helping hand. See details at www.stlukesumc.com, or stop by the table in the East Passage, or contact Amy Myhand at myhanda@stlukesumc .com. *** Supplies Needed! It takes a LOT of donated supplies to make Summer Splash a success. A wide variety of items are needed, and soon! Again: you’ll find a sign-up list for donation at www.stlukesumc.com. Thank you for your help in making this a special week for our children.

SpringHill Day Camp Registration St. Luke’s is offering a full-day camp experience for children who have completed K-4th grade. SpringHill Day

Camp will take place July 8-12, 9AM-4PM. Find details in the Communion Monthly or at www.stlukesumc.com.

The Track Summer Schedule Happening now: preschool and pre-k children (age 3 by 9/12 to those not yet in kindergarten) are invited to the Mini-Track for Sunday School classes at 9:30 & 11AM. Children who have completed kindergarten through 4th grade will attend the first part of worship with their families. After the Children’s Moment, they will be led by staff to a classroom for fun activities; pick up is in E106 or E108.

NEWS YOU CAN USE July Communion Monthly Don’t leave worship today without a copy of the July Communion Monthly. It may be the lazy, hazy days of summer, but there’s still a lot going on at St. Luke’s! Make sure you’re one of the informed (not the hazy!) and pick up this information-packed publication today, or view/download it at www.stlukesumc.com/news/publications.

Painters Needed! We're giving our children's area a new look, updating classrooms and hallways. We'll be painting the weeks of June 24-July 5, July 15-19, & July 29-Aug 16 and will need LOTS of volunteer painters! Sign up for any length of time (for a solid week, for one day each week, for a single day). Email David Williamson at williamsond@stlukesumc.com to indicate when you'd be willing to serve.

Job Opening St. Luke’s is seeking to fill the full-time position of Director of Communications & Marketing. Experienced individuals should send their resume to Nancy Lange at langen@stlukesumc.com. A job description is available at www.stlukesumc.com. Deadline for applications is July 8.

Disciple Bible Study St. Luke’s Adult Ministries has a goal of enrolling 500 people in a Disciple Bible Study this year – will you be one of them?
