TODAY’S SPECIAL EVENTS

JULY 28, 2013

The following is a list of events occuring today at St. Luke’s. For other events and upcoming information, pick up a COMMUNION MONTHLY, available at the end of the pews and at the Information Desk in the Narthex.

The Track Summer Schedule Happening now: preschool and pre-k children (age 3 by 9/12 to those not yet in kindergarten) are invited to the Mini-Track for Sunday School classes at 9:30 & 11AM. Children who have completed kindergarten through 4th grade will attend the first part of worship with their families. After the Children’s Moment, they will be led by staff to a classroom for fun activities; pick up is in E106 or E108.

Summer Outreach St. Luke’s Outreach has committed to partner with Nora, Fox Hill, Springmill and Greenbriar Elementary Schools to help connect with the 75% of their students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. That is over 2,000 students in the area surrounding the church. To address this need, St. Luke’s will be hosting the “Back to School Extravaganza” at our church August 4. This event will provide school supplies, clothing, food and other services to these children. This is a large undertaking . . . so we are asking you to get involved by sponsoring a child for $25 to get them the supplies they need, or you can find a supply list at www.stlukesumc.com and bring donations to the main office. If your business would like to participate, let us know and we will bring a collection bin to you! Contact Jamalyn Peigh Williamson at williamsonj@stlukesumc.com for more info.

Servant Day Join your St. Luke’s family in working together for the 5th Annual Servant Day as we reach out to our surrounding neighborhood on August 3 from 8AM–1PM. The day will begin with breakfast in the Great Hall, before teams will head out to serve throughout Pike and Washington Townships. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Check out the diverse opportunities at the sign-up tables in the West Passage today and throughout July. You will also be able to sign up online at www.stlukesumc.com.

Disciple Bible Study Give yourself a gift of fun and a spiritual boost this year. Join Disciple Bible Study Fast Track this fall. You will meet new friends, learn your Bible so sermons will make more sense, your kids Sunday school will be clearer, and you will feel more confident in your Christian beliefs. Consider the 7:15AM class at 96th and College, the mom's group on Wednesdays at 9:45AM or a Sunday morning class along with 10 other times throughout the week! Visit the table in the West passage or in front of the Stained glass window to get more information or to signup!

Upcoming Service Work Trips

We're giving our children's area a new look, updating classrooms and hallways. We'll be painting one more session, July 29-Aug 16 and will need LOTS of volunteer painters! Sign up for any length of time (for a solid week, for one day each week, for a single day). Email David Williamson at williamsond@stlukesumc.com to indicate when you'd be willing to serve.

If you are interested in an extended work trip with St. Luke's Outreach, please look at the opportunities to serve at www.stlukesumc.com/outreach for national and global opportunities. We have trips open in September to the Kentucky Children's Home and The Midwest Distribution Center. In October, join the team serving in in Fondwa, Haiti, Oklahoma or West Virginia. We also have trips planned to Caberet, Haiti and to Kissy Hospital in Sierra Leone in 2014. We hope you will consider one of these trips as an opportunity to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus.
