SCATTERED SAINTS

The Bell began keeping up with alumni in a feature called Scattered Saints as early as 1963. All the written updates are grouped together by year, followed by the Class Reunion photos. Lifetime Events photos are located on p. 73.

1954

Eugenie Ricau Rocheroll is still a professional composer with many published works for piano solos, duets, trios, and quartets. A new composition is “Crescent City Connection,” named for the New Orleans bridges, which is a commissioned work for piano, oboe, and bassoon. You can check it out on YouTube. She also has seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

1962

Bob Merrick, philanthropist and business leader, was awarded the Times-Picayune Loving Cup in February of 2020. The Loving Cup, which celebrates civic activity in the preceding year, has been awarded since 1901 to men and women who have worked unselfishly for the community without expectation of public recognition or material reward.

1964

Charles Grubb, with classmate and lifelong friend Richard Schmidt, traveled with their spouses to Key West on the latest of their annual vacations together. Over the years they have cruised and visited such diverse places as Canada, Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Costa Rica, and Santa Fe.

1965

Charles Nelson was honored as a Pillar of Scouting by the Boy Scouts of America Southeast Louisiana Council during a virtual gala in July 2020. He currently serves as an officer on the Executive Board for the Southeast Louisiana Council of Boy Scouts of America.

1967

Cathy Hovland Winters finally retired from being a teacher and school administrator, and moved to Clearwater, Florida. At 71, she now has time to complete her Ph.D. The theme is Empowerment: Creating a one-week retreat program in Maine designed to empower women over 65.

1969

Clay Spencer reports that he is doing well. After finishing Tulane Engineering in 1973 and receiving his MBA in 1975, he joined an engineering and construction company based in Houston. Clay moved to Iran in 1976, and met Stephanie when she visited there before her senior year at William & Mary. They married in New Orleans, then relocated to Indonesia in 1977. Over the next eight years, they moved to Bahrain, Houston, Belle Chasse, Wimbledon, and Houston. Other assignments took Clay to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Saudi and UAE oil fields, Paris, Korea, and Pilsen--plus Port Hueneme, San Bernardino, Dearborn, Payson and Mojave Indian lands, Waxahachie, and Bethpage. They moved to central Florida in 1994 to run an equipment manufacturing company. Finally they returned to New Orleans, where he has owned an industrial equipment repair company for 24 years. Their daughter, Ginger, is married and an engineer for Shell in New Orleans. Both sons are former U.S. Marine Corps officers, married, and are back in New Orleans now, with Clay’s business. At last count there were seven grandchildren, ranging from eight years to three months old.

1972

In January 2020, Harry Mayronne was interviewed by Karl Lengel of “All Things Considered.” The piece aired that same month and focused on BrechtFest 2: Works of Bertolt Brecht, a benefit for Innocence Project New Orleans. The event was held in February 2020 to commemorate the 122nd birthday of German playwright and poet Bertolt Brecht. The performance of music, spoken word, and puppetry features Mayronne and others.

1977

Mary Beth Pendley Ray of Washington, DC and New Orleans has launched a leadership coaching business, MBR Coaching + Consulting for Growth, LLC. Building on her background as a lawyer, former elected official, and nonprofit founder, Mary Beth’s coaching focuses on deepening self-awareness and increasing emotional intelligence. She works with both individuals and organizations on issues such as leadership development, communication, team dynamics, and diversity and identity in the workplace. 1980

After ten years in digital innovation for Adidas, Jon Werner co-founded KOYA, along with his wife, Cherie, and two of their daughters (Caryn and Courtney) to create a mobile app making it fun and easy to pay it forward and spread kindness between family and friends. Jon and Cherie celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in June and their youngest daughter, Cayley, is a freshman at Samford in Birmingham, Alabama. The family has resided in Austin, Texas since 1991 except for a three-year stint in San Diego between 1995-98.

1982

The Class of 1982 has a new class agent! Betsy Fox has taken over for Patti Micklin. Thank you, Patti, for your service to keep your class connected with the school, to increase alumni understanding of the current state of the school, and to advance alumni support of and participation in the ongoing efforts of the school. And thank you, Betsy, for moving into this role.

In early 2020 a group from the class had a mini-reunion when they went to see Steve Wulff play music at The Upper Quarter in New Orleans. He had no idea his classmates would be there, so it was a great surprise. Turn to p. 74 to see a pic.

1996

Christopher Bowman married Jessica Nicole Sellers on October 10, 2020. They reside in Alexandria, Louisiana, where Christopher practices law.

1998

In November of 2019 Dr. Rebecca Tuuri, University of Southern Mississippi Associate Professor of History, was presented with the Julia Cherry Spruill

Prize. The prize is awarded by the Southern Association for Women Historians for the best published book in Southern women’s history. Dr. Tuuri earned the award for her book Strategic Sisterhood: The National Council of Negro Women in the Black Freedom Movement.

1999

Jonathan Campo has been married to his wife Cate for several years and they have welcomed a baby girl, Josie. They live in Brooklyn, where Cate is a teacher at The Allen-Stevenson School. Jonathan runs his own creative studio called Gravy Boat Regatta. The Gravy Boat has done all kinds of wondrous things, including writing and directing TV commercials for Fortune 100 companies, creating an animated show for Warner Brothers, designing apps, directing and producing comedy shorts for Comedy Central, and crafting all manner of graphic design work. Along the way, Jonathan has picked up numerous art direction and illustration awards. He maintains a serious painting practice and attends artist residencies when he can get a break from commercial work.

2001

In May 2021, New Orleans-based public relations and marketing agency Bond Moroch announced the promotion of Ryan Evans to vice president. Ryan is also a Loyola University Institute of Politics fellow and serves on the National WWII Museum Young Benefactors Steering Committee.

Ashley Mohrmann was married in Healdsburg, California (Sonoma) in the summer of 2018. The couple live in New Orleans. She and her husband, Chris Genard, welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Becca, in June 2019, and baby boy Jack in fall of 2020. The family is expecting baby number three this year.

Lauren Giles Mora has created a line of sauces called Lively Sauces. They are currently available for weekly pick up and delivery in the New Orleans area. They will provide you a health and nutrient hit while allowing you to save time on dinner. That’s why the tagline is Easy, Healthy, Delicious. Her new company was featured in the March issue of Biz New Orleans, has partnered with EatFit, and has been seen at pop ups throughout the city. In October 2020 Crista Bourg Breaux welcomed her second child, Olive Amy Bayhi.

Following a move to Covington in 2019, Margot Castaing Rainold is excited to start a career with the launch of McEnery Residential North Shore. She and her business partner, Molly Koenig (wife of Clay Koenig ’01), are passionate about offering the North Shore market the personalized and luxury real estate services implicit in the boutique McEnery Residential brand.

2004

For Sarah Jones Carter, it was a fast and joyous winter on the beautiful tropical island of Okinawa, Japan. She and her husband welcomed their first child, Emma Lynn, on December 22, 2020. Sarah started writing a book that is set to be published late this year, and has been the tech guru for a local military spouse leadership seminar (Okinawa Leadership Seminar) that will take place virtually in March. Her husband Jason received orders to the Pentagon and the couple will be returning to the Beltway in July, 2021. They could not be more excited to get back to all of their friends in the area and live again in proximity to Wegmann’s and Target.

David Morhmann practices defense law in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is engaged to be married at the end of the year.

2005

Anna Coons married Michael Gretchen in February at Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church. Members of the wedding party included Jessica Wise Clark, David Coons ’02, Julie Henson, Kelsey Vogt Napier ’06. Saints in attendance included Hillary Gibbs Alread, Garet Patterson Edwards, Lizzie Burck Guiza, and Joe Schwertz.

2010

Madeline Brannon and Joel Derby ’09 were married on May 16, 2020 at the Stock Farm Club in Hamilton, Montana, broadcasting to family and friends via Zoom. The couple moved to Los Angeles in June, and their baby boy (Hugh Asbury Derby) was born on New Year’s Eve. After several cancelled dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah Breisacher was married to Jason Wolfe in Pass Christian in March.

2013

Madeline Davis graduated from Medical School from Louisiana State University Health Science Center at Shreveport.

2015

Jeremy Ott was married to Taryn on December 12, 2020.

2016

Jaclyn Murphy graduated from the University of Alabama Honors College in 3.5 years with a biology major and a minor in psychology.

Hayden Nugent graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.S. in marketing with a concentration in sales. Fellow alumni Kevin Bird, Ashley Bossier, Hampton Davis, Alex Happoldt, Belin Manalle, Bo Molbert, Jaclyn Murphy, and Raj Shah got together to celebrate his accomplishments.

2017

William Baird graduated from The Freeman School of Business at Tulane University, where he double majored in Finance and psychology and minored in accounting.

In December 2019 Jeff Ganucheau, Johnathan Glenn, and Jonathan Jones enjoyed a group trip to celebrate their birthdays. See a pic in the Lifetime Events spread on p.74!

In May 2021 Brooke Williamson graduated from the University of Mississippi with a B.S. in nursing. She has accepted a position in the Nurse Residency Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

2020

Andrew Gary had an exemplary first year at the University of North Carolina. He was selected as a recipient of the Community Service Scholarship.

Elyse Kann had a fulfilling and blessed year at Auburn University, achieving Dean’s List honors both semesters. A business major, she is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and serves as their assistant historian.
