IN HER WORDS
In Her Own Words MELISSA CHAILLAND, StM Parent
StM connection: My connection is Ford Jones Deith, Jr., whom I met at church. Ford was a mentor for my daughter Robin, and was the youth director and choir teacher at our church. He is a wonderful family friend and has an amazing way in how he interacts with kids. Ford encouraged us to look at St. Martin’s for our daughter Sophie and we were absolutely amazed at how much the school had to offer. We were sorry we didn’t get into St. Martin’s earlier than we did.
One St. Martin’s memory: I have several memories, not just one. My daughter Sophie’s smile on the first day of school each year, the Gala where everyone dressed up in 80’s attire, and Maypole in second grade.
What makes StM special? The commitment the teachers have in meeting each child’s learning needs, and their ability to do so with alternative ways of teaching. The way parents support each other within the various groups such as Booster Club, Moms’ Club, or Dads’ Club. Also how the parents from my daughter’s class stay connected, check on each other, and have social events.
Why you chose St. Martin’s:
There are so many reasons to choose St. Martin’s. First and foremost, the amazing education. Second, class size and one-on-one attention from the teachers, the support from the staff and teachers, the values and commitment to work together and support our children.
Favorite StM tradition: My favorite tradition is the Maypole dance in second grade. I also love that the seniors are honored in sports, and the freshmen sign the book on the first day of school during a ceremony.
Why I give back: To continue the great education and experiences not only for my child but for younger children and for future generations. I want our children to grow in their education, in sports, in camaraderie, in traditions, and much more. My child has experienced many life events and I want those to continue.
